I never said Canon knew this problem before the release.

I just wish canon spend more resources on QA, especially in User Acceptance Testing phase. given the fact that this camera is marketed as a high speed crop body for sportshooting, more testing should have been done in that domaine. Now manufacturers are using the end users as QA team. I still don't understand how so many 7D bodies are going back to canon for AF issues and get returned with
"Electrical adjustment" done to AF system.

Japanese used to have very high standards and close to zero tolerance when it comes to QA

It's correct. prey is the thing that predators chase and eat. Unless your camera is a hawk, that's going to eat the birds, you'll be praying that you get a shot.

and the point of knowingly releasing a bug and then coming up with an emergency bugfix firmware a few days after its discovered would be...?

Not everything is a cover up or conspiracy. Regardless of how thoroughly something is QAed the first time it is released to the end user there may be bugs that come to light. Thousands of people using a product (software or hardware) will flush out some unexpected problems in specific use cases that QA didn't catch, especially if not every piece of equipment exhibits the same behavior.

This is just a fact of the high-tech world.
