Is that “exciting cameras” or simply exciting that you managed a ‘first’?
Lets be honest, this isn’t much information really, is it!!!

I don’t know, the sd940 looks exactly like the sd780, takes better pictures, and appeared to be the successor to the sd780 when it was released. I can’t imagine why they’d release a different replacement camera in the same segment (though obviously I could be wrong).

The SD940 and SD780 are different price points, i.e. the 940 is the higher end version of the 780. So there’s a successor to the 780, and will probably be followed by a successor to the 940.
(Dunno about the pictures thing tho; the 940 has a much nicer wide end but in terms of IQ from what I read fell slightly short of the 780, no doubt from stressing the lens in getting that focal range in such a small package.)

It seems like these little Poweshots are a dime a dozen. I can’t keep up.
I was considering the S90, but I guess these are lower models?

Lower than the S90… but everything is unless there’s a ‘G’ in your name. I was about to pick up a 780 for a pocket camera. I don’t see much diff in the specs here except for a larger screen. Maybe they’ll ditch the viewfinder.
Really.. we’re all hanging on for more T2i and 60D info!

Though the SD780A is missing some specifications to it, it’s listed specifications looks exactly like the canon SD940IS which i purchased for a friend.

The SD780A or whatever will NEVER be the same as the SD940, because the 940 have a wideangle and the SD780 is a lower model and will NEVER have a wideangle. This is marketing with canon.

Is that because Nikon Rumors is doing a better job of stirring it?

Its tempting, the Nikon Coolpix P100 bridge with 26x zoom although more expensive than those noted above it quite compelling – perhaps it becomes low cost way to try out Nikon performance over Canon?
Come on Canon get us excited again about good cheaper dSLR’s – 60D @ iso 25600, Quality zooms for the 1.6 crop range, a 30mm f1.8 for £50.

Wow. Just… wow!!
60D at ISO 25,600? Why not go the whole nine yards while you’re at it? I say ask for 60D at ISO 204,800 and USABLE ISO, not in need of PP work – it’s more interesting, and you have the same chance of getting it :)
30mm f1.8 for 50 quid – another nifty-fifty, but with a better build quality, better AF, USM, full time manual focus and … a, yes, an UNICORN, under 100 USD.
Do you ever get what you wish for?

lol :-) Rarely get what i wish for but i like the saying, if you don’t ask you don’t get.
I love my nifty fifty, but a thrifty 30 (or 24) would be way cool. Not sure about the unicorn monopod.
2*1dv4 ISO now that would revolutionise photography & cctv.
Cheers Adrain.

Glad to see you took it as a joke :)
Funny thing is, in 5-10 years, I bet there will be a camera with usable 204800 ISO, and maybe not in the Dx /1Dx class from Nikon / Canon, but rather in the ’semi-professional’ class.
Well, I hope it will, and you are right – if you don’t ask, you don’t get, so here’s to asking :)

In contrast to their DSLRs, Nikon’s compacts are crap.

True, even he-who-must-not-be-named uses Canon compacts. Recently he has been gushing over his S90 -which seems to have replaced the infamous D40 (even Nikon fans were getting fed-up of this) as his favourite camera. That is, apart from his Leica addiction, which apparently costs nothing anyway!

Who are you referring to? The engineer who takes cr*ppy pix and writes reviews of products he hasn’t even touched or the guidebook writer who still insists he’s not a fanboi? :P

I don’t wish to spread the word of the Dark One -If you don’t know who I mean, it’s probably for your own good.
To satisfy your curiosity, his initials are ‘KR’ and his name has manifested itself upon this site recently.
If you do choose to go in search of his dominion, DO NOT give up your $5 to support his growing brood… You have been warned!

Okay, thanks, I now know who you are referring to. It’s the gadget-collecting engineer who takes P&S-quality pix. Lulz.

I just wish I could see the pics of the people bashing KR and/or Thom… I am sure that Ansel himself would cover his face in shape if he ever were to see such masterpieces.
Eh, nevermind. I can drive better than Schumacher, Kobe can’t guard me, I CAN beat Mike Tyson and so on and so forth.

Those “other people” don’t have self-serving, ego-boosting websites that they use to pontificate about their own personal and biased (because of monetary interest) views. Get it now?

Ok, makes sense. I mean Ken Rockwell is trying to sell me Nikon DSLRs, and because he’s a Nikon fan he pushes the D40 – cheapest one – and advocates for boycotting the D3x, Canon compacts, but still the S90 not the G10/11, Leica cameras and lenses, again emphasis on old and cheap(er) ones, and large format stuff. It’s almost like he does not care what I buy. Hmmm…
Re putting their own personal opinions on their websites – do you expect them to put MY personal opinions on their website?

You still don’t get it. Their personal views are colored by their financial interest and their cognitive dissonance. That’s why you should never contribute to their website hits unles you’re already sharing their point of view. Otherwise, there are better sites out there for more objective views.

I wonder if the Dark Lord his self occsionally scans the CanonRumors page.
I wouldnt be suprised.
…I think his success comes from jellousy. Not jellousy of his pictures or ego, but of the fact that he has somehow managed to make a living out taking pictures and ranting while the rest of us are forced to hold down real jobs.

Which of course begs the question, if one is indeed “jealous of his success”, why would they continue to support him by visiting his site, heh.

Actually I don’t mind his website, it’s good for a laugh! Some of the stuff that he writes is genuinely useful, if you can bear to wade through all of the opinionated waffle that goes with it. I’m sure that half of what he writes he doesn’t even believe himself, he just says it in order to be controversial, which boosts his hit count.
I’ve got no problem with the guy making money from advertising (just like the CR guy does), workshops or doing interviews; many ‘professionals’ do this to make ends meet.
The only bit that I have a problem with is the begging for money bit at the end. Seriously, here is a guy that can basically afford all the kit that he wants and yet tries to guilt trip people who are poorer than him into parting with their cash!
