A Little 60D Info [CR1]
New stuff
Received an email today in regards to a 50D replacement. Most of what was said was the same as most stuff we’ve received. Smaller form factor than the 50D and an articulating LCD screen.
The 2nd part of the email mentioned a video optimized 14.2mp sensor.
I have heard once before about a new sensor for the camera.

Received this spec list in regards to a video camera with an EF mount.
Specifications
- Unconventional case, more like a Hasselblad.
- Alloy heatsink for extended shoot times and lower heat related picture noise.
- FF 4k sensor, no line skipping and much reduced jello effect
- ISO 100-1600
- Pellicle Mirror however it can be flipped up if a OVF isn’t required to regain the lost 2/3 stop.
- EF fitment
- AF when pellicle mirror is down
- Digital Follow focus to control lenses electronically
- Twin CF slots
- Add on module with SSD drive for extended shooting, like a virtual film mag.
- 4:4:4 SDI out
- HDMI out
- 3D LUT capacity
This is currently a “skunk works project that was initiated with the 5D video explosion. Designed to be a base body, leveraging the existing EF glass. 3rd parties left to develop rails, matte boxes etc.”

Crazy Stuff – EOS 3D [CR0]

I received these specs today, they’re nothing like anything I’ve received before. So I’m going to post them for fun.

EOS 3D Specifications
- Price: 3499
-27mp Foveon (?)
Foveon is property of Sigma, so that kills the spec list. Unless Canon has their own version.
- 5FPS
- 16bit (16 bit what?)
- BG-E9 Grip, uses 7D & 5D2 battery
- 7D Weathersealing
This one deserves a massive grain of salt like I said earlier.

New DSLR Features [CR2]
Just a quick post
I received an email about a new consumer DSLR being tested.
A couple of features that were mentioned.
Features
- Movie focused
- Swivel LCD
- Between the T2i & 7D
- A smaller form factor than the 50D, but not by much.
- The announcement is coming in July

A new flash and 1Ds Mark IV will be announced near the end of August/Early September.

A Tale – 24-70 f/2.8L Replacement
What I hear
I’ve heard people in the know from Canon USA saying they have “no idea what’s going on with them” in regards to the current backorder on the 24-70 f/2.8L.
Most people in the know give you ETA’s, not in this case. Just another sign.

Backorders telling tales?
Here’s the skinny
As most of you may know, I am behind Lens Rentals Canada along with the “Bank of Peter”. Things have been going so well, that we’re ordering new stock almost daily.
This is a list of lenses that are nearly impossible to get from Canon and have followed the same stock issue path as the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS before it was replaced. Heavy backorders, then most get filled. Then eternally backordered until an announcement.
24-70 f/2.8L
We need about 3 of these lenses a day, no joke. There was a few weeks in April that this lens was tough to get. Then a small flurry of stock came about and most backorders were filled in May. Now in June, folks all over Canada and other places around the globe have not been able to get the lens. Some backorders are going on 3 weeks.
I currently have a few on order from Canon Canada and will keep an eye on whether or not we get allocation of stock.
50 f/1.4
This lens has also been backordered in a lot of places. We cannot get our hands on any. I’m not overly upset about that, but I’d love a new one.
TS-E 24 f/3.5L II :)
This lens takes about 2 months to get everytime I order it. It’s not being replaced, but it must be super popular.
All of this may mean nothing, or it could be the signs a lot of people are hoping for.

Announcements in July?
New Stuff!
I’ve received a few pieces of info for an announcement in the middle of July. It appears July12/July 13 or July 19/July 20, we haven’t nailed it down exactly yet. More will come soon.
There will be a 2nd announcement cycle in August.
There will probably be a DSLR announcement (60D/3D) as well as other cameras and accessories. Do not expect a 1Ds Mark IV at this time.
