5D Mark III Information?
It’s mentioned that a 5D Mark III will be aimed at “cleaning up” the DSLR video market. It will complement the 1 series video DSLR mentioned at the recent Hollywood Cinema EOS presentation.

The camera will be no more than 18mp. It was mentioned not to expect a big mp camera from Canon in the immediate future.

“Revealing” Canon C300 Test Video

More C300 eye candy and praise
Jon Yi
has provided a fantastic “test” video from the new Canon EOS C300. His conclusion, “C300 = awesome”.

There’s some great info about ISO performance and workflow. A worthwhile watch.

There’s a little bit of language and “skin” in the video, so if you’re easily offended, don’t press ‘play’.

From Jon Yi

In early Fall 2011, I shot some footage with a pre-production model of the Canon EOS C300 for one week in NYC. I created an article and a video for Canon based on my experiences with the camera. The video is meant to poke fun at most camera test videos I’ve seen over the years. Canon, not thrilled with my sense of humor, does not credit or condone this video, but I think it shows a lot of the camera’s strengths.

You can read my full article about the EOS C300 here:learn.usa.canon.com/resources/articles/2011/c300_for_cinematographers.shtml

I believe that Canon made a beautiful camera that is sensible, reliable and portable in a way that I’ve always dreamed a camera could be. It prioritizes great skin tone and has higher ISO sensitivity than any other camera out there.

I know there’s nothing I can say to change the minds of the RED fan club. For the rest of the skeptics, I think once you get your hands on it you’ll understand how great this camera really is. Please buy this camera in January and go film some good skin tones in the dark. You’ll love it.

Thanks go out to all my friends for helping me with this.

The Future of the Canon Speedlite [CR1] & More

The Future of the Canon Speedlite [CR1] & More

3 New Speedlites?
Received a bit of a random email saying Canon is currently testing 3 separate Speedlite models. 430 and a 580 replacement, as well as an all new flash line.

A replacement of the ST-E2 was also mentioned, though it wasn’t said whether or not it would be radio based..

1 new Macro flash is also a possibility, there is a small stature Macro flash being tested I’m told. It may be launched with a new EF-S macro lens.

Canon Rebel 1000D Lost at Sea

Canon Rebel 1000D Lost at Sea

The tale of a camera lost at sea.
The above Canon EOS 1000D was lost at the bottom of the ocean off the coast of British Columbia, Canada for over a year.

Turns out it was found by a diver named Markus Thompson, who brought it back to the top. He discovered the SD card still worked and he was able to view the photos.

What now? Well Markus took to Google+ and ended up finding the owner of the camera!

Thompson took to Google+, posting the story and a few identifying details he was able to dig up from the photos. Within a day, the hive mind was able to track down and contact the owner, a firefighter in British Columbia. We’re not saying you should be thankful for Google+, but the actual people who use it sure seem like good folks.

New Lens on December 6, 2011? [CR1]

New Lens on December 6, 2011? [CR1]

New Lens(es)?
Are we getting a goodie before Christmas?

Received an email today saying Canon may announce a new lens on or around December 6, 2011.

This could just be in retaliation of the suspected Nikon announcements on November 30, 2011. No mention of what lens, which lowers the possibility in my eyes.

I can only think of one time a lens was announced and I had heard absolutely nothing about it, and that was the 55-250 II.

Canon Cinema EOS Interview

Canon Cinema EOS Interview

From Amateur Photographer
Amateur Photographer (via NL) sat down with Peter Yabsley, a business development manager from Canon Europe, to talk about Cinema EOS.

An excerpt

AP: Will the EOS and EOS cinema departments be working quite closely together now?

MB: Since the 5D there’s been a process of working together, interconnecting working and sharing technologies and it will be beneficial throughout the range. You may not see it now but broadcast is helping EOS, EOS is helping cinema and so forth. We’re seeing it now it the EOS 1DX, adding timecode to video for instance – the video guys helped show the stills guys how timecode operates and there’s more than just the one option on there.

Canon EOS C300 Price Drop Already? [CR1]

Canon EOS C300 Price Drop Already? [CR1]

$20,000 too much scratch?
There’s a rumor on the DVXuser forums that Canon has indeed dropped the price of the upcoming EOS C300 to €12,000, that converts to about $16,000 USD.

Is a rumoured new pricepoint to shift your desire for a Red Scarlett over to the C300?
