7D Mark II
I’m told along with others that a 7D Mark II will be one of the big items Canon shows at Photokina 2012 in Cologne, Germany.
I’m told the camera will be APS-C, even though there have been murmurs about it being APS-H.
B&H Deal on the 7D
Speaking of the 7D, B&H has a deal on it kitted with the EF-S 18-135 IS for $1575 shipped (USA). (Buy)

B&H Sales Until January 7, 2012
The folks at B&H have extended their free shipping (in the USA) promo for various lenses that are on sale. There are far too many to list.
There are lenses from Canon & Tamron included in this sale. The best deal I see is the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II for $2069. I also have a soft spot for the 70-300L which is down to $1349 and worth every penny.

5D Mark III Announcement
Barring another manufacturing problem in Asia, count on the 5D Mark III being announced around the end of March or early April 2012.
Availability will probably happen before the summer begins in 2012. No specs were given at this time. This is a very solid [CR2]
The NAB show is April 14-19 in Las Vegas.

New Article: Reflections on reflections. Coatings: The Most Important Part of Your Lens
We are posting another article written by Roger Cicala at LensRentals.com.
Todays article touches on coatings. Their history, and their importance in optical design. As always, it’s pretty informative..
So How do Coatings Work?
It’s pretty simple to explain if you have a Ph. D. in optical physics and speak higher order mathematics. I don’t, so I’ll just have to explain it to you like it was explained to me (and I’ll put some references at the end of the article for those of you who want to double check the Trig and Calculus formulas). Basically, though, there are three types of coatings, each working in a different way. The first two types can be combined with each other to improve their effectiveness; the third type (nanocoating) is so effective it doesn’t need any help.

The Super G
Valentin Sama of DSLR Magazine wrote on his personal blog that Canon is working on a “Super G Series” camera.
This falls in line with previous posts here and here.
I was surprised how many people agreed with me about Canon not needing a mirrorless camera, but instead a high end PowerShot. The people that disagreed made great points about Canon being involved in what appears to be an emerging segment that is here to stay.

Bring on the noise
It was inevitable, but now we have a comparison of the Canon EOS C300 & Red Scarlet when it comes to high ISO noise performance.
From Cinema5D
In all, it’s clear that the C300’s new sensor excels in low light situations, which will allow for whole new ways of filmmaking in dark zones, were much less artificial light can be used to accentuate something.

What, When, Where?
I receive little bits of information a fair bit about the “in development” 4K cinema EOS DSLR. Below are a few bits that seem possible.
Form Factor
There are various prototypes and body types. It will most likely be a new form factor. Somewhere between the 5D Mark II and 1D X in size. There will be some new button placements as well.
Megapixels
This will not be the monster megapixel camera from Canon.
Photokina 2012
Photokina 2012 is the goal for at least an announcement and functioning prototype. Canon does want to get it to market before the end of 2012.
Name
The name for the camera hasn’t been selected yet, but it’s probably going to have its own model number. However, it won’t be the “mythical” “EOS 3D”.
