Floods in Thailand affect production
The floods in Thailand have affected Canon’s manufacturing and have lead to a closure of an ink jet printer factory in the country.

Both Sony and Nikon have faired far worse, Sony has delayed announcements due to the flooding and Nikon has had a major factory closed for 3 weeks.

The Canon Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center will also serve as a field extension of Canon’s Research and Solution Engineering Department, dedicated to ensuring that current and future products meet or exceed the demands of our clientele. As a local research and development center, staff will assess market demands and expectations for new professional imaging technology and look to build them into future product generations and customer support provisions. Received a brief bit of information in regards to the November 3, 2011 announcement in Hollywood.  It’s another person pointing to a video camera related release.

What do we have here?
The expected Pixma announcements fit in around that date, however there is an EOS logo showing on the bottom of the invite as well. October 26 is a Wednesday. I had heard previously about a “third week of October announcement” for Pixma and from a couple of people EOS. However as posted yesterday, I had been told by everyone and their mother that no new DSLR was coming in 2011.

My Fault
A few days ago we posted  that DigitalREV had put on their Twitter and Facebook pages about being invited to a “pro product launch” event.

I should have updated the post to say we had heard nothing from anyone else in regards to a DSLR announcement. I knew for a fact no other outlet had been invited to any Canon event or press conference.

I apologize, it’s my fault for not updating the post appropriately, I simply forgot.

As mentioned on other sites, “no leaks… no announcements.” That holds true here as well.

Invites are out
DigitalREV has stated on their Twitter & Facebook that they have been invited to a  ”pro product launch”.

What could it be?

Everything from printers to DSLRs, for the moment it’s unknown. I’m asking other folks that wouldn’t be invited to a printer event, if they’ve been invited to something next Thursday.

*UPDATE 1*
Another person with an invite is telling us that the program only mentions, ink, laser, & multifunction printers.

I’d expect to see new Pixma 9000 and 9500 printers. Perhaps a larger Pixma added to the lineup as well.

“Canon is making an historical global announcement”
So what does Canon have planned for November 3, 2011? Something big apparently.

I would say this event is NOT for an EOS or Mirrorless camera system, the city it’s being held in should be a giveaway. I expect something new and exciting for the cinematographer.

We had this rumor a few weeks back about a November announcement.

4K camera? An EF compatible video camera? Something to compete with RED? Something to compete with Sony & Panasonic? I’m sure we’ll be learning more before November 3, 2011.
