DPR has just posted their review of the 1D Mark IV.

The Final Word (From DPR)
A lot has already been said about the 1D Mark IV, both by people who have tested it and those who have tried to weigh it up against the D3S and that kind of nit-picking makes it easy to overlook what an astonishing camera it is. And looked at from a neutral perspective, both it and the Nikon are unmistakably the best sports cameras that modern technology allows.

Its talents are slightly different to those of D3S but its strengths will be a great asset to many people – the smaller sensor that prevents it competing at the very highest ISOs delivers the kind of extra reach that many touchline shooters will appreciate. Frankly there’s more to both cameras than just their high ISO performance and, while the Mark IV isn’t the best high ISO camera on the market, it’s still an exceptionally good one. From the point-of-view of the tasks it was built to tackle, there is nothing that can touch the detailed, high resolution images that it can deliver ten times a second.

From DXOMark
DXOMark has released their findings for the Nikon D3s and Canon 1D Mark IV.
It’s about a wash between the 2 cameras outside of what we already knew. The high ISO performance is superior out of the camera on the D3s and it’s lower megapixel/larger sensor.
Again, take it for what its worth.

His feelings on the performance are mixed.

I’ve never been in contact with Mr. Galbraith and his findings have sparked controversy in the past. What I will say however is that he’s super technical and a very good sports photographer. I won’t be disputing anything he finds. I will say that NFL photographers have been super happy with the performance of the camera. I will be putting it through the paces at some hockey games this weekend and add some observations to the 1D4 review here at CR.

1D Mark IV Custom Guide & ISO Setting Guide
A reader of ours sent us the following PDF file they found on the CPS Germany web site. This is a good guide for current and future 1D Mark IV owners. There’s even a few things I learned skimming over it.

It still shocks me how much is going on inside these cameras.

I found the information about tracking settings to be quite useful. I will also be using AF point expansion in the future and at different settings for different situations. The settings for avoiding background focus shift and foreground focus shift are also excellent.

Happy reading.

So…………
It seems the thing people talk most about with cameras today is ISO performance. So here is some examples/tests of the D3s & 1D4 ISO performance.
By the looks of things, Nikon’s D3s is definitely outperforming the Mark IV at high ISO.
See for yourself: http://www.neutralday.com/
I cannot vouch for the tester/reviewer here.

Delkin Delivers Genuine Human Contact with New 420X CompactFlash Line
Poway, CA. January 7th, 2010 – Delkin Devices, Inc. today expanded their lineup of CompactFlash card storage by announcing four new blazing fast 420X PRO cards capable of transfer speeds up to 63MB/s. The new UDMA enabled flash memory comes with a remarkable San Diego based customer service team as well as a lifetime warranty, and is available in capacities of 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. For a working photographer, the reliability and service support behind a memory card can be just as crucial, if not more so, than the camera itself.

“Unless they have blown it up, dissected it, or their dog has chewed on it, we’ll take it back,” said Eric Findley, Delkin’s Customer Service Supervisor. “Since we’re based out of Southern California it’s easy to call us up and talk to a knowledgeable person withinminutes. We stand by our hassle free exchange policy; in addition to the lifetime warranty on flash memory, we have industry leading product support policies on our batteries, readers, adapters, and most all of our digital camera accessories. We build superb products and we want photographers to know they can count on us to support them.”

Delkin’s PRO memory card line combines blazing fast speeds and increased capacity with unmatched reliability. Every card is manufactured with high grade NAND flash, advanced controller design, and quality control guidelines based on ISO:9001 standards. Additionally, built-in ECC (Error Correction Code) automatically detects and corrects any errors that might occur during data transfer. Delkin’s 420X CF cards are fully compliant with current CompactFlash specifications with support for Ultra DMA (UDMA) mode 6. These high-speed cards are able to instantaneously store high-resolution images and HD video, making recording faster and easier than ever.

Delkin has supported Lifetime warranties on its memory products for over 20 years and maintains a U.S. based support center where genuine human assistance is consistently available Monday through Friday between 8am and 5pm PST.
