xxD Not Dead Yet? & More [CR1]

They received a comment that the xxD isn’t dead, it’ just resting. They’ll use the camera to give a longer time between the 7D and 7D Mark II.

Weekend Rumor Mill
Two comments came in saying not to expect the 1Ds Mark IV announcement until mid August.

Lenses
A lens announcement in the late spring as well as in August. As usual, no word on lenses.

There will be a new 300 2.8 & 400 2.8 being tested at the World Cup and not yet for sale.

2011
A 5D Mark III will be coming as well as a new full frame camera below the 5D Mark III.

We will also see a new EF mount video camera system.

Site Design
I’ve had a new site design completed for about a week now and will be doing the switch on Sunday. So expect some minor downtime.

I’m also working to troubleshoot some back end issues that make the site unavailable every so often. The problem has been isolated.

*UPDATE*
As suspected, this one is busted! I had to post the info or my mailbox would have been jammed up with links to this. I really wanted to resist it, I had hoped another site would post it and have it quashed there. No luck!

CR reader KKL did the smart thing (why didn’t I think of it?), he downloaded the file and checked the setup.ini.

Soooo.
I’ve been sent this link about 50 times in the last 24 hours or so. The “60D” appears on Canon Taiwan’s site.

This is the only info I have on a 60D coming, for now I’ll just call it a typo, we’ll see if its still there on Monday.

Just thinking out loud here
Canon won’t be attending PMA as we all know, but they WILL be attending WPPI. They can’t be going to WPPI with just the T2i can they?

5D Mark II firmware delays may give a clue as to what is coming down the pipe. Will we get the 60D or the very desired 1Ds Mark IV? I do have a source that swears a 1Ds Mark IV will be around before the end of February.

Again, I’m just throwing this out there.

Another tidbit to think about. Canon has the largest booth at the event and have just launched new ImagePROGRAF printers, The iPF6300/6350 & 8300.

Logic and model ID’s would suggest another dSLR is just around the corner.

CR Editorial about Articulating Screens
I don’t think Canon will introduce an articulating screen until we have a faster liveview autofocus technology. There are situations that an articulating screen is handy on an SLR with the current liveview performance, however I don’t think it’s an issue for a majority of SLR users.

Canon has probably focus grouped this feature to death.

That’s just my 2 cents. :)

I received some badly translated information about an upcoming camera announcement. I don’t know what model this would be.

Specs
- Articulating screen

Sounds like a new Rebel with a little more build quality. Maybe a 60D?

No specs were given, but I’m told we can expect a 1Ds4 and 60D to be announced in February. There won’t be a Rebel until the “MAM” quarter.

What’s coming?
I’m told we’ll be seeing a slew of PowerShot cameras announced. Including high end ELPH/IXUS models.

DSLR?
We will see 1 or 2 SLR’s announced alongside the point & shoots.

There will be at least 1 Rebel announced. The possible 2nd SLR “sounds like a 60D”.

Lenses?
From this source it’s unknown at the moment.

As always, we’ll keep you posted.
