1Ds Mark IV
A link has been spread across the web showing a 1Ds Mark IV price, as well as the ability to order the camera.
For the moment I have not published the link, as I’ve been burned before by products being added to store sites and getting free click through advertising.
In this case, I need more than a model name and a megapixel count, I posted terrible 1Ds4 info in the past and I do not want to do it again.
50D Stock
Stock of the 50D has been depleted by a bunch of stores in Canada. Future Shop has none in their warehouse and do not anticipate ever seeing anymore arrive. London Drugs in Canada have also ceased sales of the 50D in Canada I’ve been told.
I spoke with Canon Canada and they have none in stock and gave me the usual “2 weeks” to get more.
60D Camera Images
I’ve been sent a lot of links to 60D shots, all of which are less than well done Photoshop jobs.
“There will be no 60D”
This has been reported, but none of my sources agree with the sentiment. One has said the xxD line will continue, however the camera could take a slightly different form this time around.

Best Buy
Best Buy has always given clues as to what was coming.
Currently Best Buy Canada is selling the 50D as a body only. It doesn’t appear kits are available on the site anymore.

If you want some tidbits of info, here’s one.
Canon attempted to purchase Pentax.
There’s a concern within Canon about Sony’s position in the DSLR market. They’re proving to be very committed in gaining marketshare.
It was insinuated that Sony has interest in Pentax and its user base, whereas Canon doesn’t necessarily want the same thing.
It was an interesting talk. I don’t have lots of info, but the source is good.

Making the rounds
With sales figures of the grossly overpriced WiFi grips not going so well, it’s been suggested new grips will be coming for a few cameras. The grips will be GPS capable.
If it were true, I’d expect to see them for the xxD and 7D initially
The source claims the GPS grips will not have WiFi as well.

I’ve been sent info about an updated EF 135 f/2L. The source says we can expect it to get IS. It’ll either be f/2 or f/1.8. Both prototypes exist.
CR1 for now.
This is the first I’ve heard of such an update.
60D Image
There’s a 60D image making its way around the web. I haven’t posted it because it looks exactly like 50D pictures that are out there.
It’s extremely rare to see Canon promotional photos before a camera is released.

DIGIC V
There has been some rumblings lately about DIGIC IV being phased out in favor of the “V” in the upcoming 60D and 1Ds Mark IV.
If this were the case, it would be the first time that a same Mark version 1D & 1Ds would have a different processor.
60D Special Feature?
A regular has told me that the new feature for EOS will be GPS functionality.
Other suggestions I have received are Wifi and 120fps video. Both of which I’d say are highly unlikely.
Another person has said the camera will get a new form factor. It’ll be slightly smaller than the 50D and have no top down LCD. It would still be a sealed magnesium alloy body.
All CR1 suggestions for the moment.

5D Mark III in 2011
Vincent Laforet on a recent webcast alluded to the next incarnation of the 5D coming “next year”.
He also mentioned Canon is committed to improving the mini HDMI connector on the cameras.
It’s rare to hear any of the sponsored photographers mention future products.
New Flash
A brief comment I received said Canon is readying to replace the 580EX II with a new unit. This will not be an addition to the flash lineup. There will be some new technology built into the flash as well.
PowerShot SX20 Replacement
The SX20 replacement will take a bit of a departure from the SX10 & SX20. Expect a new lens setup, design and image sensor technololgy.
The source also says expect the SX20 to be the last superzoom from Canon that uses AA batteries. I know that will NOT be music to the ears of a lot of people. It seems to be a 50/50 split for LiIon vs AA with the camera line.
New Waterproof Camera
Expect a new waterproof camera to be announced with the 60D in the coming month. I’ve also been told there could be a waterproof camcorder.

Not much, but something
I’ve been told a couple of things about the 60D by a decent source that surfaces every so often.
1) The sensor will be the 18mp CMOS sensor, not the 13.8mp sensor from a previous rumor.
2) There will be a new feature in the 60D that isn’t available anywhere else in the lineup. No word on what that is. GPS?
3) The camera is nearing it’s first production run and is in final testing right now.
Not much, but appreciated.

What’s around the corner?
If you check the latest Popular Photography Magazine, they make a reference to next months magazine showcasing a “great new dSLR”.
Canon? Sony? Nikon?

Sony EVIL
A lot of folks are waiting for a Canon EVIL camera, we’re going to be waiting into 2011 at least.
Sony is preparing their own EVIL camera to be announced on May 11, 2010.

About time someone spoke up
A CR regular has piped up about the massive announcement of new gear coming from Canon.
I’m told to expect 2 separate announcements, one for the prosumer market and one for the pro market.
Announcement 1
- 60D Type of camera, it could be called something else.
- The EF-S 60mm Macro will receive IS.
- There is a “murmur” that a new 70-300 type of lens could also be announced.
- This will be the first announcement.
Announcement 2
- The 1Ds Mark IV will be announced
- EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS will be announced
- A new f/4 wide angle with IS
- A new L prime, unknown as to which will get replaced. The 35mm isn’t a guarantee.
- A new Flash
- New accessories
- This will be the 2nd announcement and the big news for Photokina
The source says amendments could be made over the next few weeks, so keep checking back.
