What’s around the corner?
If you check the latest Popular Photography Magazine, they make a reference to next months magazine showcasing a “great new dSLR”.
Canon? Sony? Nikon?

We’re getting close to some announcements in the photography world.
Sony EVIL
A lot of folks are waiting for a Canon EVIL camera, we’re going to be waiting into 2011 at least.
Sony is preparing their own EVIL camera to be announced on May 11, 2010.

About time someone spoke up
A CR regular has piped up about the massive announcement of new gear coming from Canon.
I’m told to expect 2 separate announcements, one for the prosumer market and one for the pro market.
Announcement 1
- 60D Type of camera, it could be called something else.
- The EF-S 60mm Macro will receive IS.
- There is a “murmur” that a new 70-300 type of lens could also be announced.
- This will be the first announcement.
Announcement 2
- The 1Ds Mark IV will be announced
- EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS will be announced
- A new f/4 wide angle with IS
- A new L prime, unknown as to which will get replaced. The 35mm isn’t a guarantee.
- A new Flash
- New accessories
- This will be the 2nd announcement and the big news for Photokina
The source says amendments could be made over the next few weeks, so keep checking back.

60D Coming?
Yes it’s April Fools day, and I’ve received some crazy stuff. This seems relatively legit.
60D Specs
- 18mp (7D Sensor)
- 11pt AF (New AF System)
- Same Video Modes as T2i
- Same LCD as T2i
- 6fps
- Not 100% VF
- No Electronic Level
- ISO 12800 Max
- Prototypes are in the field
An announcement for the camera would be near the end of May/early June.

They received a comment that the xxD isn’t dead, it’ just resting. They’ll use the camera to give a longer time between the 7D and 7D Mark II.
Weekend Rumor Mill
Two comments came in saying not to expect the 1Ds Mark IV announcement until mid August.
Lenses
A lens announcement in the late spring as well as in August. As usual, no word on lenses.
There will be a new 300 2.8 & 400 2.8 being tested at the World Cup and not yet for sale.
2011
A 5D Mark III will be coming as well as a new full frame camera below the 5D Mark III.
We will also see a new EF mount video camera system.
Site Design
I’ve had a new site design completed for about a week now and will be doing the switch on Sunday. So expect some minor downtime.
I’m also working to troubleshoot some back end issues that make the site unavailable every so often. The problem has been isolated.
*UPDATE*
As suspected, this one is busted! I had to post the info or my mailbox would have been jammed up with links to this. I really wanted to resist it, I had hoped another site would post it and have it quashed there. No luck!
CR reader KKL did the smart thing (why didn’t I think of it?), he downloaded the file and checked the setup.ini.

Soooo.
I’ve been sent this link about 50 times in the last 24 hours or so. The “60D” appears on Canon Taiwan’s site.
This is the only info I have on a 60D coming, for now I’ll just call it a typo, we’ll see if its still there on Monday.

I received an email saying that February 23, 2010 will be the launch date of a new camera body.
We’ll be on the lookout for press event(s) around the globe.

Just thinking out loud here
Canon won’t be attending PMA as we all know, but they WILL be attending WPPI. They can’t be going to WPPI with just the T2i can they?
5D Mark II firmware delays may give a clue as to what is coming down the pipe. Will we get the 60D or the very desired 1Ds Mark IV? I do have a source that swears a 1Ds Mark IV will be around before the end of February.
Again, I’m just throwing this out there.
Another tidbit to think about. Canon has the largest booth at the event and have just launched new ImagePROGRAF printers, The iPF6300/6350 & 8300.

Be patient, they’re coming. :)

Logic and model ID’s would suggest another dSLR is just around the corner.

Well, the T2i is Model ID 0×80000270 .
We’re now waiting for what dslr will take the Model ID 0×8000287.

Looks like a movie focused digital SLR camera will be announced at the BAFTA event in England.
Canon promises to have their new cameras on hand for folks to play with.
