EOS 60D Stock Levels Getting Low?

Various Reports…..
I’ve received various reports from around the globe that EOS 60D stock levels have become very low. There are reports of at least two stores saying they cannot get any more stock at all.

I have nothing to report about an imminent replacement of the 60D, but I do expect to see at least one new APS-C camera in the next month or two.

A Brief 2013 Canon Roadmap [CR1]

What’s in the pipeline
As always, things quiet down after an announcement. The two recently announced lenses seem to have generated quite a bit of talk, and that’s always good, even if a lot of it was negative towards the pricing. I hope to have both the EF 24-70 f/4L IS and EF 35 f/2 IS in the hands of our new reviewer sometime in December.

EOS
Two new DSLRs will be coming in the first quarter of 2013. Most likely APS-C cameras. Definitely a Rebel and most likely one of the 70D or 7D Mark II.

EOS-M
New lenses in Q1 of 2013 will be announced. Expect a fast prime and a telephoto lens. No mentions of a new EOS-M camera. We’re all hoping for a firmware update to improve the AF of the EOS-M.

Cinema EOS
Going with some previous reports, we’re told that new Cinema EOS lenses will be announced by the end of January. No cameras are in the immediate pipeline. We’re still waiting for the EOS 1D C to make it to market as well as the EOS C100.

The Big Megapixel Camera
They’re out there, announcement is unknown. It is definitely 40+ mp and will be geared to studio and landscape photographers. Apparently there’s lots of new technology in this upcoming body.

Canon EOS 7D Successors [CR1]

The prosumer market up next?
Now that Canon has addressed the “professional” space with the 5D Mark III, 1D X & 1D C (Yes, I know some want the big megapixel camera), it could be time to turn our attention to the “prosumer” space. We keep hearing bits of information about what’s planned for the segment in the coming months.

The 70D
The latest I have heard, and spoken about before, is that we’ll see the 70D move up the line. It’ll be specced close to the current 7D, however with a new higher megapixel APS-C sensor.

The 7D X
The rumor that won’t go away is that the APS-H sensor will return to the Canon lineup and fit between the 70D and 5D Mark III. Is it really possible? Maybe. I don’t think Canon needs more APS-C cameras beyond the Rebel, a 70D and possibly a mirrorless entry.

Odds & Ends: 70D, 7D2, New Full Frame, D600 & Photoshop CS6

Lots of small things
The rumor mill has started to heat up as of late, most of the stuff seems pretty out there. However, stuff is appearing on other sites and in my inbox. I’m not sure how much of it is recycled speculation, but that does happen from time to time.

I’ll rate each bit of information on its own.

3 new DSLR bodies this summer [CR1]
A mention of 3 new EOS bodies before Photokina in September. Only one of them being a full frame camera. It was suggested that an “entry level” full frame camera wouldn’t be announced and it would be an upper level EOS-1D style camera.

7D Mark II to be full frame? [CR1]
I’ve seen this in my inbox a few times, and it has shown up on [cw]. I’ve never really believed this one, I don’t think they can call it “7D Mark II” and change the sensor size from a marketing perspective. There are lots of EF-S lenses in the hands of 7D owners.

I have no doubt there will be a full frame camera under the 5D Mark III, but it can’t have all the prosumer features of the 7D to retain the moniker and stay around $2000. That just doesn’t seem like smart marketing. But hey, I’m not in marketing. :)

Canon EOS 70D [CR1]
More mentions of the 70D moving up the ranks in the APS-C realm and becoming the flagship APS-C camera. We’ve heard similar things and think it’s entirely plausible.

4 More DSLRs Coming in 2012? [CR2]

More to come
Received some information that Canon is far from done as far as camera launches go for 2012. I am being told that 4 more DSLRs are coming in 2012.

Which cameras?
It’s unknown if the expected mirrorless entry counts against the mentioned 4 camera bodies.

Speculation about what the 4 cameras could possibly be are below.

1) “Entry Level” full frame camera. Think of it as a direct replacement for the 5D Mark II.

2) Prosumer APS-C, possibly the 70D and not a direct replacement of the 7D.

3) The big megapixel entry, mentioned to be an EOS-1D style body.

4) A mirrorless entry.

If the mirrorless doesn’t count against the 4 purported camera bodies, I’m unsure what else Canon could have up their sleeves for the EOS line. A few people have suggested a 5D in the cinema EOS lineup, however I don’t think that’s likely until after the EOS-1D C starts shipping in late 2012.

Canon EOS 70D & 3D Prediction from Japan

From Japan
A magazine in Japan called CAPA may have shown specs for 2 Canon cameras, the first being the 70D and the next being the long talked about EOS-3D. The magazine is pretty well respected, and all of this could be entirely plausible.

With the new Rebel coming on June 8, 2012, and the predicted mirrorless following soon after, I am unsure if either of these cameras are slated for an announcement any time soon.

Canon EOS 70D & EOS 7D Mark II Speculation [CR1]

APS-C replacements soon?
The first of what will probably be many spec lists about the mentioned cameras. With the knowledge of an 18mp T4i, it stands to reason that Canon will retain the same megapixel count in the next xxD and xD APS-C cameras. Still no mention whether or not it’s an updated sensor. I would certainly hope it is.
