Just showing the age of the current big white lenses, and how quickly they had been updated in the past.
As some have suggested, the new coating will probably be on any update. Possibly lighter weight? We’ll have to see.

Stuff to buy

Speedlite 270EX - With The Tilt
- The 270EX is making its way into peoples hands.
From the folks at Dell (5D Mark III!):
A reader got this response from a Dell employee yesterday in regards to the 5D2.
“My name is Bailey and I am a sales representative here at Dell in the Electronics and Accessories department. I was informed about your situation and did a little research to try to clear some things up. It turns out that Canon is currently moving from the 5D Mark II to the Mark III. The flyer you received was up-to-date, however it appears that Dell may have received news on the transition after the flyer was put together by marketing.
Please let me know which number would be best to reach you on, as well as the time that would be most convenient for you.”
Contain laughter.
60D (older news)
- It’s suggested the 60D will get an articulating screen. [NL]
- The 60D will be put on an 18 month product cycle again. [NL]
Niether of which I’ve received any information on.

They’re coming
A few people wonder when their new PowerShots are coming.
The SX200 IS is already shipping, it’s probably backordered already.
The D10 will be hitting shores sometime in the next 7-10 days. Expect full coverage by the 20th or so of April. The North American version of the SX1 IS will be arriving around the same time.
Tilt Shifts
They’re still on track to be showing up sometime in May. Full stock coverage may be into June. Like with all Canon high end lens products, initial quantities will be limited.
T1i
The new T1i will be seen sometime near the end of April.
270EX
They’ll be coming in April.
There’s a bunch of other PowerShots coming, these are the only ones people keep asking about.

Right again
We nailed the specs on the T1i pretty good. We had no idea about the 20fps 1080p. I really have no idea what that’s about.
We also nailed the replacement of the 220EX that would have the ability to tilt. It’s about time!
Lenses are still proving to be difficult to get good sources on, but we’ll keep at it.
Thanks for reading!
Both will be hot sellers
Below are product availability links to the new Canon products. If you buy when this stuff is available, it supports the site.

Speedlite 270EX - With The Tilt
Amstelveen, the Netherlands, 25 March, 2009: Canon announces the launch of the entry level Speedlite 270EX, an enhanced flash designed for EOS and PowerShot users. Replacing the popular Speedlite 220EX, the Speedlite 270EX is aimed at photographers wanting to expand their flash photography beyond the built in flash and those who want a small: pocketable flash unit to complement their EOS-1D or EOS 5D series. The compact Speedlite 270EX builds on the success of its predecessor, with more power than usual for its class and size.
The Speedlite 270EX includes a host of new features not available with a built-in flash that push the boundaries for the entry level flash market. These include the addition of a zoom head, ensuring efficient light distribution and bounce flash head, enabling light from the flash to bounce off a ceiling to produce pictures with more flattering lighting with softer tones and depth. Improved circuitry offers near silent recharging and enables similar recharging times as its predecessor, despite being powered by just 2 AA batteries.
Key Features include:
* High power flash with a maximum guide number 27 m
* Fast, silent recycle times
* Manual flash output (settable via camera menus)
* Speedlite controllable with compatible camera’s menu
* Zoom head
* Bounce flash head

From an Email
“The 220EX II is confirmed”
Short and sweet.
UPDATE
This post is still a rumor, I’ve found no confirmation of the flash. I haven’t rated the rumor because it was an anonymous email.
cr
From an email
“Hey that small flash you posted about before PMA will be a reality on March 25.”
It only makes sense to have a better small flash, but making sense doesn’t matter. :)

Jog Wheel
One source swears the new Rebel will get a jog wheel.
Bounce Flash
A few emails have come in claiming the new Rebel will have a bounce flash on top. Wishful thinking? It appeared previously for a Nikon D5000 rumor. I don’t see Canon busting out a radical departure in the world of camera top flashes.
Articulating Screen
Everyone I ask says not to expect one on the new Rebel. They’d rather the large 3″ VGA screen.
I think it’d be a great idea to add one. A lot of people are pretty passionate about having one. Perhaps remove it and movie mode on the Rebel XS successor.
GMOS
The next “G” camera will be CMOS sensor based.
“You will see an announcement before you think.”
That’s it for now.

Flex TT5 & MiniTT1 Review
The fine folks at Strobist have posted their review of the new pocket wizard products.
Needless to say there is a lot of excitement about the product.
I’m mostly excited because of the small size. My only gripe with my PocketWizards has been the giant antenna. These will fit nicely in a very small space.
The big feature upgrade? These things do remote TTL. The units are brand specific and the first ones will be available for Canon.

New PocketWizard Manual: PocketWizard FlexTT5/Mini 1 Manual
Pricing? MiniTT1$199 and FlexTT5 $219
I will say the only thing I don’t like about the new PocketWizards is their new name. Couldn’t just call them the “Flex1″ and “Mini1″?
