Canon will be announcing their Photokina products on September 17, 2012. We’ll be around to cover the new gear that will get announced.
What to expect
- Canon EOS 6D
- Canon PowerShot G15
- Canon PowerShot S110
- Canon Pixma Pro-10
- Canon Pixma Pro-100
- Canon EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x (Finally Announced?)
There has been very little mention of new EOS lenses, though we do expect some before the end of 2012.
PowerShot and EOS
I received a few tidbits of information of coming products for Photokina.
S100 Replacement with Wifi
G12 Replacement that isn’t much different than the current one. Same sensor size as the G12.
A new SX big zoom PowerShot is coming.
A full frame EOS between the 7D and 5D Mark III with touchscreen and 20mp (most mentions have been 22mp)
I’m not 100% sure about a new EOS camera, though there are press events all over the planet next week. Announcing EOS with Pixma and PowerShot has happened before, and Canon could use a splash at Photokina if Nikon does indeed announce their inexpensive fullframe D600.
Stock levels of the 5D Mark II seem to be depleting in various places around the globe as well.
Canon will be announcing new product next week in the lead up to Photokina. A few people have received invites to various press conferences around the globe.
So what can we expect to be announced?
At least two new “pro” Pixma printers. These will be direct replacements for the Pixma 9000 Mark II & Pixma 9500 Mark II. They’ll be be a smaller Pixma Pro-1, one with dye and the other with pigment.
There will be no 17″ Pixma printer announced this go around, but there are murmurs we will finally see one in the near future.
More PowerShot announcements are expected, a G12 replacement I’m told is likely, as well as a new fast lens PowerShot.
There is next to no talk about a new EOS body for Photokina. The next camera will be a smaller full frame camera, when is still the question.
There has been talk of a new 400 f/5.6L being announced and not much else. I’ve had one other suggestion that a new couple of lenses for the EOS-M system could also be announced. A macro maybe?
New Firmware [CR2]
A mention of a new “important” firmware for the 5D Mark III was mentioned as coming sometime in June. No mention of what would be “fixed” or added to the camera.
More mentions of a mirrorless announcement in June. Launching with 3 lenses with a public “roadmap” of what would coming for the system down the road.
A few other mentions that Canon would make a “big splash” for Photokina in September. If the mirrorless is already available, not sure what that would be.
On a Photokina note, I’ll be there in Cologne to check out the new wares from Canon and the rest.
EF 24-70 f/2.8L II Availability
The lens will be available in July from a few people. There is “no risk of more delays”. Initial stock will be good, but there will obviously be backorder lists for a while.
Preorder at B&H & Adorama
