I'm currently in Rwanda doing gorilla trekking at Volcanoes National Park with the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II. I've been trekking for the last three days and it has been amazing. We head to Uganda tomorrow to trek for chimpanzees, which will be far more challenging that the gorillas.

My gear for the gorillas:

  • Canon EOS-1D X Mark II
    • So far so good, the camera has been stellar. The autofocus is the best I have ever used.
  • Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II
    • Tried and true and a lens that is perfect for this kind of shooting, though we did have some luck and could have easily been shooting with a 24-70.
  • Tamron 85mm f/1.8 VC
    • Wow! This lens rocks. I used it exclusively for two treks and it did not let me down. The weather sealing stood up to the rain and the autofocus performance was spot on.

I'll be travelling for another week or so, which means updates may come slow to the site. I highly recommend visiting Rwanda for the gorillas.
