Canon EOS 50D Firmware 1.0.8
« on: June 30, 2011, 10:12:47 AM »
50D Gets a Minor Update Below are the following fixes/features of the new EOS 50D Firmware. I guess it’s nice to see new firmware for a discontinued product.

  • Improves the writing/reading speeds when using UDMA 7-compatible CF cards.
  • Fixes incorrect indications in the Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Arabic, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai and Turkish menu screens.

thanks Qing

As you mention - Good on Canon to support its older products.
I assume older cards are getting harder to find and this will prolong the 50D life.
Canon 60D, 24-105, 50 F1.8. 430EX II.
Sigma 10-20, 70 F2.8, 70-300, Super500.
Giotto tripod, Hoya filters.

Maybe it's a wish that will never come true. I wish that Canon would make a firmware for 60D that allows AF micro adjustment.

I would be happy if they were able to release one that was able to remove the 22:50 time limit on video. (i know its linked to the 4GB Fat file system and Tax issues but it would still be nice to see)

It may be related to sensor overheating as well.  Thats not a firmware thing, the camera shuts down when the sensor overheats.

I do believe we will see a new CF format in the future, Canon has already acknowledged the issue after the 5D MK II came out.

FWIW, I fell for doing the update and now my Sigma 50 autofocus is abysmal. It was working fine before but is now completely useless. And of course there is no way to roll back the firmware update...

[EDIT] I found a copy of the v1.0.7 firmware and was in fact able to roll back to it and the autofocus on the Sigma 50 seems to be fixed. I'll retest v1.0.8 and post later with results of a more definitive test...
