6D compensating in manual mode
« on: December 16, 2013, 10:06:31 AM »
Hi all,

I have been using my 6D for some while now and I start to get irritated that the camera compensates in manual mode. When I change the aperture, the shutter speed gets compensated to keep the same exposure.

Simple example;

Manual mode
Shutter: 1/160
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 1600

When I set the aperture to f/6.3 the shutter speed compensates by setting itself to 1/125.

What am I missing here?

Turn off safety shift in the custom menu.

Turn off safety shift in the custom menu.

It seems that one is already turned off.

Confirmed by Ken Rockwell, safety shift is only used in Av or Tv-mode.

Quote from: Ken Rockwell
Normally this is off, which means that if the 6D runs out of apertures or shutter speeds when shot in the Av or Tv modes, that you'll get under or overexposure.

I set this to Shutter speed/Aperture, which lets my 6D change my selected aperture or shutter speed if needed to get a good exposure in the Av or Tv mode.

If set to ISO, this lets the 6D change a manually-set ISO if needed to get a correct exposure in any of the auto exposure modes.

Very strange, I really couldn't imagine, this is Av/Tv and definitely isn't what M does unless you run Magic Lantern and use the "Expo Lock" feature :-o

unless you run Magic Lantern

There you have it.

I put Magic Lantern on the 6D some day to try it out, probably activated Expo Lock by accident.

Thank you, Marsu42!

You're welcome, ML is very feature-rich and it's easy to get confused :-> ... when in doubt try w/o ML to debug, press SET while the camera boots.
