It is.  I've had it in my cart and waiting (with other things) and this is the first time it did that.

Nice to see, but $2900-$2700 is what we're all expecting now :)

You can get cheaper from an authorized dealer. Copying from someone else's post on the POTN forum:

Current cheapest 5D3 is PMI Digital via eBay (http://www.canonpricewatch.com/product/03868/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-price.html) for $3169.75, less $63.40 in eBay bucks, for net $3106.35.

You mean it was  >:( :o :-\

I put it in my cart last night and was going to purchase it today from Amazon and as I was going to check out I noticed the price had gone back to $3459.  Not sure what gives with this.  I love Amazon but they may have just lost a sale from me on this and the grip.  I may have to go with BestBuy instead  >:(.

Guess they're just throwing out the fishing line to see if there are nibbles. I wouldn't worry too much. Another one around $2900 or less should be around before the end of the year although I highly doubt if B&H will go lower than $3199.

EDIT: B&H Photo has dropped the price again to $3199 today.

B&H is back at $3199:

Looks like same at Adorama and Amazon.

Another authorized retailer at ebay is at $2900:

The general trend is downward towards ~$2750 sooner than later.  Shocking I know, but that's what all the periodic "sales" are pointing toward. They aren't selling Mark III in droves and the competition for the $$$ is intense.

This is kind of moot now with other current deals, but why would you have any expectation that you could come back to something in your cart at a later date and not be subject to price changes? No ecommerce sites function like that (after the initial add-to-cart session). I would assume that you purchase on Amazon regularly, so you should be very familiar with how frequently they, in particular, update prices - yes, this is a particularly unfortunate large jump (vs. the cents that books go up and down everyday in one's cart), but you clearly knew it was a "deal".

Wow - with rebates B&H and Amazon have 5DMKIII at $3,110.00! This is great!

The final destination price for 5D3 in a year or less will be around ~$2750...I wouldn't worry too much with all the up and down price-teasing which is meant to console the distraught early adoptors from needing sedation meds. On that note, 6D is right on its way to becoming the next non-event for Canon. Whoever came up with the pricing/features strategy at Canon for this body should be loaned to the Nikon Camp so they can suffer for a change. Features wise, 6D is a "neither here nor there" camera for its pricing. Except for the odd fanboy who is ready to pay ~$2099 on any lemon that Canon trots out, I don't see how Canon can shift that dead horse in large numbers for that price ;)

As if on cue, the price of 5D3 drops to under 3K at $2994 at B&H.  They can't get to $2750 quickly enough for any of the authorized dealers... I guess it ain't movin' fast...by Feb to May it could hit 2750 without much fanfare or too many tears shed.

Nice, like what I'm seeing.  Not that I care about the 6D, but I wonder what it will do to the price of it.   Canon may have to lower the list price before it even hits the streets.

I see the 70-200 II dropping too making it harder to sell my 70-200 f4 IS to help fund it.  :o

Be careful with that date.  It could happen, but check Canon Price Watch graphs for historical price levels.
There is a good reason why prices go up after the first of the year.  Canon's fiscal year ends December 31.  Their profits for the year are based on FY sales.  In order to lower inventory and to maximize sales, prices drop in November and December to their lowest levels of the year.

I agree, but with the 5D3 (and I would wager with the the upcoming 6D), there are more fundamental miscalculations of the overall market and demand which are being corrected with the price drops.

If you look at the 5D2 graphs at cpw, after a modest initial dip they held the price for two years stably before the inevitable drop with newer models. So they do the fisical year deals at the end of year on those items that could use a bit of additional push, not on items that are selling well.

But with 5D3, the significant drop in price months after release, hints at something more "structural" going on in their revenue calculations.

That "structural" change was 7 months too late for a few of us....  >:(

On the possitive side, I think it can't possibly slide below $2750, which incidentally is what the original market price should have been and was the fair price given the competition and other models in their own pipeline. But no! Canon had to be greedy.

But you got to use it for months now...so that is a fair pay off. If you can afford it, buy it at the earliest and enjoy it. Few hundred dollars for a few months...that's not so bad. :)
