Tried to order and could never get it to work--denied every time despite trying to use PayPal, Bill Me Later, MasterCard... Nothing. Offices closed, too, so no help. I'll pass.

CAUTION: There are a TON of negative feedbacks for this seller and most of them are for cameras not being shipped or delayed shipping and difficulty contacting the seller.

I would avoid this seller.

Despite the fearmongering, yes, this seller has some negative feedback. They also have more than 50 THOUSAND positive feedback. There may be somewhat of a slow shipment, but that's just par for the course for a relatively small seller moving a lot of cameras. All the stuff about the warranty not being honored by Canon is utter and complete horseshit; this has never been an issue in the past and it isn't now.

I got mine for $2499 on Black Friday from BigValue... Shipping was somewhat slow as I got the camera Dec 3rd about 9 days after ordering.

Whether the warranty is valid or not, they are US models and not grey market. I also have to pay tax at NY stores like BH and Amazon. They are in NJ and it was straight up 2499 so it was hard to pass up.

I'm glad some folks got a great deal and things turned out fine for them.

Everyone should just be aware that based on many eBay feedbacks and this forum that this purchase will not likely be fast and smooth. It very well may turn out fine but it will probably require patience and maybe a bit of effort wrangling the seller. If that's acceptable to save several hundred dollars, I totally understand.

However, caveat emptor, etc. - this is likely a buyer beware deal for a significant amount of money on the line. Folks just need to know that going in...

Ordered mine on Black Friday and got it on November 30th. The said they shipped on the 11/28, but it got into the UPS system 11/29. Was it worth it -- YES!

I tried two credit cards and PayPal denied both. I called Paypal (customer service is in the Phillipines) and the only discretion they have is to be polite. Very frustrating experience with PayPal. I wonder how many more cameras BigValue could have sold if PayPal really understood risk and knew how to mitigate it.

Doesn't seem like it...

Um. Let'e see. Wait an extra week to save $400. Why yes I believe I would...

However, caveat emptor, etc. - this is likely a buyer beware deal for a significant amount of money on the line. Folks just need to know that going in...

The sale is guarantied through ebay and Paypal, the camera is guarantied by Canon. What's to be wary of?

You shouldn't really be "wary" of it, but you need to be aware. I purchased a 7D from them about a year and a half and it was a miserable experience. They claimed to have been "Scammed" at the time, insisted that I never payed for the camera (Although I had the receipt) said I needed to cancel the order and place it again, which I did, and still never had the camera in my hands. There I was, double charged, with no merchandise. They said I never made the first payment and so they could not refund it.

Eventually I had to file a report with paypal, and paypal was able to get a manager from Bigvalueinc on the phone. That is when they explained they were being scammed, placed all orders on hold (Understandable, but still frustrating) and after about a month of fighting, I got my camera shipped and the original $1700 refunded. Total nightmare. If the deal is good enough, like the current 5dIII deal is, I think a little hassle may be worth it though. You are covered by ebay and paypal both, just be ready to file that claim =)

Received the 5d mark iii from them day before yesterday, which I ordered on black friday for $2499. Would give them a mixed review.

I called them shortly after ordering to ask if I could change the shipping address, which they said they couldn't do. At that point I asked them to ship it to the original address, and hung up. Two weeks later and still no sign of the camera, so I call them. They say that they hadn't shipped it still due to having placed the order on hold, apologized, and promised that the item would be delivered with a day or two. I also asked them to be sure to use a shipping method with signature confirmation.

When the item was delivered the next day, it was by "UPS Ground" and was left by our front-door, unattended.

So I got a great deal, but it required an extra phone call, and it could have turned out badly.

It has been asked a lot as to whether or not these cameras have a warranty that Canon will honour. The simple answer is yes, these cameras have a full one year Canon USA warranty.

[/html]

Yes, but will the camera come packaged with a US/Canada Warranty Card is another question entirely...

As mentioned in a previous thread, I pulled the trigger on this and purchased a 5D3 body on Thanksgiving night ($2,886.06 shipped). After missing the original arrival date (11/29) by more than a week, my camera finally shipped through UPS.

Thing is, my camera shipped from Miami, FL instead of Somerset NJ. It arrived without a warranty card. It seems like depending on where the camera ships from determines whether it comes with a warranty card or not. I did call Canon USA twice and they did say that Canon will honor the warranty if you can produce your original receipt. However, some folks on this board will have you believe that unless you ordered from an authorized dealer (B&H, Adorama, Amazon, etc) then Canon will not honor the warranty, no matter what...so your mileage may vary depending on who you speak with.

Yes, bigvalueinc does have great feedback, but a quick Google search will show that Bigvalueinc's been caught up in scams before (although they have evidently cleaned up their act). All negative feedback has mainly occurred from the Thanksgiving period, when they started shipping from Florida, canceling orders entirely, or delaying shipments by weeks.

Outside of that, the overall deal for the camera cannot be beat and if you're prepared to accept a lack of customer service, and many levels of "grey," then I say jump on the deal. Just use caution. I hope those who pull the trigger have a better experience than I (and others on the board) did.

Been trying to execute this deal for almost 24 hours and have been denied every time via PayPal. My guess is that the company is blanket denying everyone so that you have to call into them directly, at which time they cajole you (or try) into getting additional crap, warranties, etc. The $3476 for the package with the 24-105mm is a gr great deal, but I've already wasted a couple of hours trying to make this happen, so the diminishing returns are such that I'd just pulled the trigger with Adorama at $3599 and moved on, saving me hours of hassle for the relatively paltry $123. anyone want to by a 15-85mm lens?

Hmmmm, I bought one and it went straight through paypal, no problems. I even used a new credit card I'd never used before. It sounds like there might be issues with your paypal account, not with them.

I had similar experience with Paypal once. Log into Paypal and make sure your accounts are verified. Mine credit card was locked by Paypal until I verified it... again.

Big Value is sketchy..but they do deliver your camera eventually. It’s a $700 savings off the going rate!!!…Since you are protected by eBay and PayPal buying guarantees…I think for that kind of savings it is worth the inconveniences. The outfit probably makes so little money on the sales that they are just very under staffed to handle business correctly.
Believe me…I do not like seeing this low price…as I paid $3499 for my 5DIII..but if I had this opportunity to do it over I DEFINITELY would! I live in NJ and would have to pay 7 percent tax and it would still be very worth it!

I'm always curious. What happens if your package is stolen? Is it the shippers responsibility... (they sent it via UPS/FEDEX and UPS/FEDEX said they dropped it off at the right address). Is it your responsibility for living in a less than safe neighborhood.

And what happens. Do you call the police and file a report and then submit that to the company and hope they have insurance on the package.

And if they have insurance on the package, does that expire as soon as the package is placed on the front door??

And if you do lose a $2500 camera, do you file a homeowners claim since it was on your property?

This whole process can be disconcerting.

it's simple. If you live in an unsafe neighborhood you just make special shipping arrangements with Big Value, (signature-required shipping, etc.)They will do that. OR you go to the UPS Website when the package ships and have them hold it at their facility. It's 2012...there are lots of POSITIVE options! :-)

B&H just lowered the package (w/ 24-105mm) to $3599 to match Adorama, and sweetened the deal with a free extra battery and 16GB Sandisk CF card (plus some Lowepro bad I don't need). I took the plunge and will have it on Thursday. Salivating has begun.

I bought one of these yesterday from Big Value - I'll note that they already marked it as shipped (created the shipping label) have sent 2 email updates and marked the delivery as "Signature Required", so they probably have listened to criticisms from previous orders.

I also purchased from Big Value Inc. I placed order at 1:15pm on 12/8, received a processing email at 10:09am on 12/9, marked shipped at 6:24pm on 12/9 with UPS tracking #. I'll feel a little more comfortable when the tracking info displays actual "movement". I'll keep everyone posted. They've had a lot of negative feedback, but they've had A LOT of positive transactions. Case of risk/reward. We shall see.

Mine now indicates that it has left the UPS station, and shipped from NJ (not FL), so that's a good sign. Delivery in one week from today.

Just got shipping confirmation from B&H for my kit. Added a protective UV filter (Hoya) and a hoodie. Arrival due this Thursday. Salivating won't stop. It'll arrive just in time for a holiday trip to northern Europe where I'll have plenty of opportunity to test it's High ISO/Low Light Performance (and probably the weather sealing, too!)

Placed my order December 8th, 7:54PM, immediately received order confirmation and processing email from BVI. December 9th, 6:15PM, received order shipped notification with tracking number. Item received today at 2:10PM. Its a 5D Mark III body only box, all serial numbers match, canon USA warranty card and all. Overall very happy with the risk/reward on this one...
Title: Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Body for $2599 via eBay

I was tempted to buy one from BVI or similar eBay store for cheap since they claimed USA warranty. So I contacted Canon and they told me point blank if I bought from unauthorized dealer no warranty would be honored, period.

So I just paid the extra $400 to get it from B&H since I have no reason at all to believe Canon told me a lie about not covering it, and a 1yr warranty from BVI is $300.

For me $100 difference wasn't enough to make it worth the risk/hassle, so B&H it was.

And if you got one for $2500 and have it successfully warrantied by Canon USA for free, good for you, you really did save $500 or so. :)

so its just the 1 year warranty right? so if you buy from lets say BVI for 2499, you could still pay for the repairs correct?
honestly with a brand new camera that costs $3k, shouldn't we not expect to repair it within a year, or at least if it needs repair that it would cost under $500 dollars at least?

I live near the Jamesburg NJ canon service center. I've brought equipment (Canon lens) and my camera (5DMKII) there before without any warrantee and they've serviced it for free all the same. Couple the lens I got 2nd hand from ebay sellers and my camera was about 2-3yrs old (beyond the warranty). I had the warranty cards with me, but the guy there was really nice and didn't even look at the warranty cards. He says he'll just put down in the computer that all my stuff were recently purchased.

So I guess if you have the advantage of taking the equipment in person to the service centers, the warranty might not matter.

Here's a more detailed update. Camera arrived today, brand new, with Canon USA Warranty card. Insanely fast shipping, brand new condition, matching serial numbers on card and camera (I covered them up just be extra safe) with a detailed Big Value Inc. receipt inside shipment box. I'm not endorsing BVI, just providing feedback on my A+ experience.

Mine arrived today, but "Body Only" was taken too literally.

Came in 24-105 Kit box (w/o lens of-course). Matching USA warranty card, some smudges on LCD, which I can deal with, BUT nothing else, no eye cup, battery, charger, cables, or neck strap, etc.!

E-mail sent to BVI, ready to open dispute with PayPal & CC company. I'll keep everyone posted....

have the same issue, only body and manuals, nothing else in the box. IMO CR should stop promoting BVI as their service and ethics have gone down the drain.
Gave them a few days to respond and see what happens before reporting them and filing a claim with paypal.

BVI acknowledge that they received "multiple" similar complaints, I'm just giving them until tomorrow to issue and RMA before I file a claim via PayPal.

Hmmm, I bought the same thing, albeit on 12/8. Mine seems to be perfect and new, so that's weird - do you know if yours shipped from NJ or FL?

i bought mine also on 12/9 for the 2,599 deal.

the camera i received was brand new and unopened and works perfect (had to buy a battery locally from our messed up rip-off of a dealer to check it tho)

in simple terms buyer beware, i trusted BVI and got bit and really doubt they will resolve my issue any time soon, so might as well suck it up and buy the missing parts separately.

I received mine from the 12/16 sale and there are no issues.

It was in a 5D3 + 24-105 kit box. Unfortunately, no 24-105 was included :)

I received all accessories, nothing appeared to be opened, the camera body appeared to be unused.

The serial number on the box matched the serial number on the camera.

I ordered mine in March and it showed up March 22nd. It was almost $4200 with tax and the battery grip. I hate all of you.

I waited and bought mine at a chain store. I have really come to like their warranties. Some times can be a little fishy and not really working out but for the time that i returned a slightly off focus 70-200 2.8 and they not knowing how to test a lens gave me a 70-200 is ii back... same price.... yeah i win. So i went with them again for the 5d mark iii. Not because I am hoping to scam them but everytime i take a camera in for repair they always repair it or just replace it. So i think the highest i have ever been on a shutter count is about 35k-45k. Warranties i believe are worth it and the extra hassle. I have a warranty on just about everything i own except my 5d mark ii.
I also got a good deal (2600) on the mark 3 so it made it easier to add the warranty price.

Just an update for you guys..

i was really skeptical about my issue being resolved but that skepticism was misplaced, bigvalueinc came thru in the end and they overnighted all the missing parts of the order no questions asked.

all items were original OEM just as expected, so overall i take back my words and will say that BVI have been great to deal with and it seems this was simply an issue of being overloaded with orders due to their crazy offers.

been enjoying the mk3 over the past few days and its such a big jump from my old 400D, also surprisingly easy to use and the results with the 24-105 and 70-20 f2.8 are just amazing.

I received my Canon 5D MKiii from BigValueInc.

Many people have complained that the cameras (advertized USA market) were, in fact, grey market. LOOK CLOSER - The camera that I received has a FAKE SERIAL NUMBER

BigValueInc sold me a STOLEN Canon 5D mk iii!!!

It is disappointing that I received the recommendation from CanonRumors. I am currently trying to get this resolved.

BigValueInc is unapologetic for selling stolen gear. They deny that the camera is stolen despite the fact that they sent me the counterfeit serial and that the REAL serial is embedded in the camera's bios.

How did you know that the camera is a stolen one ? What made you think that the serial # is "counterfeit" ?
Hoping that your allegation is just a misunderstanding.

It is likely that the camera came from Hong Kong, others have found the issue before. It is apparently Canon or some dealer in Hong Kong who has been giving refurbished cameras a new serial number and selling them to unsuspecting dealers as new. Before blaming a seller who probably bought the camera from Canon or a Hong Kong dealer and was told it was new and a US model, be sure you have proof that they knew.

I'd suggest raising the issue with Canon USA, or just returning it. It should absolutely be reported to ebay. However, you need to tell them something coherent, and not babble about theft and other things about which you have no proof . Stick to the facts and state them clearly, don't make assumptions, the facts are all you need and they are quite damming if presented clearly and factually.

I'd suggest that you send ebay, big value, and Canon a copy of the EXIF data showing the internal serial number along with a photo of the external nameplate. Also include a copy of the article(s) below.

The serial number on the camera that was shipped to me from BigValueInc is not even a good fake. It's OBVIOUS.

I know it is a fake because it is not on foil like the real ones, rather it is simply printed onto paper. The printing is all black (the real serial has a greyish tone to the background, with black letters which are printed into the rectangular space after the label is made. In the real serial, you can see very slight depression where the letters were pressed onto the foil. On the counterfeit, it is all one uniform, smoothe (black tone).

The counterfeit is slightly smaller than the real serial.

The counterfeit is cut poorly, where the "Canon" word has the "C" touching the edge of the sticker

The counterfeit is poorly glued to the body, with a corner poorly stuck down.

The counterfeit (since it is slightly smaller than the original) has some of the glue from the original sticker remaining around the perimeters.

Also, the serial number on the counterfeit does not match the serial on either the box, or the cameras bios. (you can easily check the serial number on the exif data if you think you have received a "BLACK MARKET" item from this retailer.

Can you post an image of the label (with the serial number covered)?

The SL1 I purchased from them has a label that looks authentic, and the number matches the EXIF data.

If a deal seems too good be true..... It probably is!!

Perhaps Canon Rumors could ease off on promoting their 'offers'

We're working with the person who brought this to our attention. I spoke with him on the phone and I'm awaiting confirmation with images as to what the issue is.

This is the first complaint of this nature we've ever had about BigValueInc. We take it seriously and will not be promoting BVI offerings until we have an explanation about what happened, and every customer of theirs is made happy.

I will update this thread when I have more information.

Thanks,

For the past 10yrs I travel to China & Hong Kong a lot. What Mt Spokane Photography mentioned above are true on street business. Nothing new to me.

Ask yourself these questions:
1. BVI is not an authoized dealer, then, where do they get all these 5D III from?
2. BVI claimed camera is NEW, then why many people received camera with missing battery and other original accessories?
3. Authoized dealer selling for $3400ish, WHY BVI sells for $1000 less?

I don't believe authorized dealers earn $1000 commission on $3500 body.

Soon or later, the TRUE will leak ::)

I have dealt with BVI and received everything as stated in the Ebay sale. Camera was new and serial number in exif matched warranty card. I would just call BVI, return it and ask for a replacement.

Thank you for the links. The serial number on my camera was not swapped as in the attached posts - it is a photocopy onto paper. If the camera were from Hong Kong, why would they waste their effort and devalue the camera by ripping off the original serial number and replacing it with a paper fake. If anyone has insight, please share.

Note that the fake serial number is
1) miscut (the "C" of Cannon is touching the cut edge
2) smaller than the original (by 5%-10%)
3) not foil, but paper
3) the wrong tone (all black, rather than Canon's greyish label with black serial stamped into the rectangular space)
4) pasted on poorly (partly peeling off and a kinked corner)
5) does not match either the serial on the box (there was a shoddy job of trying to cover that up), or the actual serial number of the camera (easily checked in the EXIF data).
6) some glue from the original serial still on the camera (remember the fake serial plate was smaller than the original).

BigValueInc has thus far been disinterested in fixing this situation. Hopefully I can count of Ebay buyer protection to recover my money. Luckily, I did not return the camera using the regular post they suggested, but a traceable post.

I think we need some more awareness of the difference between 'grey market' and 'black market'. Grey market signifies from 'another market', and has local warranty implications of course. I do not have a problem with open commerce, thus I do not have any issues with grey market. I do, however, have issues with black market - particularly when the item was quoted as being "new" in an unopened box. We really do need more honesty in this world.

Hey all. First time posting, but long time reader, so thanks for all the great info over the last while.

I just upgraded my t3i with a 5diii from Big Value Inc on one of their sales we're talking about here. I was quite concerned after reading the possibility of it being black market - I am okay with grey, but I would hate the idea that something I bought on sale was stolen from someone else. I actually had my retina macbook stolen last week, so I know the horrible feeling when something is lost like that... and I wouldn't want to profit off someone else's misery.

Anyhow, from the recommendation of the site, and the good reviews on eBay, I decided to pull the trigger on the 5diii. It arrived today and I tried keep an eye out concerning the details Mike and others have mentioned about faulty serials and bad stickers, etc.

The box it came in itself originally came with a kit lens (which I expected) with it taken out. The box and all the contents other than that were in excellent condition though. All the parts listed were in the box (other than the lens, hood, and case). I got a package deal with a sd card, camera case, and couple batteries, an extra charger, and those were in the outer box it was delivered in. They seem to be fine so far.

The serial # on the box, on the camera, and on EXIF data all match. The sticker on the camera is metallic and seems like the ones I've seen online. The C in the Canon name is pretty close to the sticker edge though, but doesn't seem out of place or fake.

I've played with the camera a bit, and so far it seems to be working properly.

I registered the camera with Canon, and they didn't say anything when registering (though like someone pointed out if something went wrong who knows what they'd say). My feeling is this is a perfectly new camera that was part of a kit, and the kit lens was taken out, and that's all.

Overall, I am relieved. The price was perfect - 2569.98 (I count myself lucky considering what many have paid and will pay) and the camera seems to be new. I really hope BVI addresses the issue Mike wrote about though. Good luck!

Thanks for your input, gilgamesh and jamiya. It's unfortunate how one person's regrettable situation can place a dark cloud over something that so many other people seem to have had positive experiences with.

I also purchased from the same auction and FedEx has it tracking to deliver tomorrow. I will do the same check as you've done and report back what I receive, with photos. I also contacted BVI (thought their demeanor was excellent) both through phone and e-mail to confirm the 5D III is a Canon USA model and thus have it in writing that it is, in case I need to open a case with BVI or PayPal. Whether the registration card comes or not is meaningless so long as it's a Canon USA model (in terms of the Canon warranty -- as no where on the Warranty agreement online does it state the need to purchase the camera FROM a Canon authorized seller, just that it be Canon USA, that I'm the original purchaser and that I have a bill of sale, for date purposes). BVI also mentioned their in-house warranty, so I don't see what problems can possible come.

If the camera is in fact genuine Canon USA, there's no way to lose with a BVI purchase. Canon should honor the warranty if any problems appear, and we saved a grand that we can put to a new L glass. No risk, all reward.

Hey guys, first time poster, long time lurker. I bought the 5D Mark III through the deal posted two days ago for $2545 and can confirm receipt of a brand new 5D Mark III. Everything was in the box, SEALED just like any camera you'd purchased from B&H. The serial numbers match and all original items were included. It was the camera with the kit lens with the lens removed.

I also contacted the seller prior to my purchase and they were nothing but curteous. I expressed my concern about the warranty not being honored by Canon and I was told if Canon happens to not honor the warranty, Big Value Inc would give me a 90 days labor and 1 year parts warranty to cover any issues that may occur.

This is my second 5D Mark III I've purchased from them in the past year and my experience has never been less than stellar. I vouch for them and if you experience any issues, eBay, Paypal, and your bank will have your back. No need to be on the fence unless the warranty service is a major concern. Happy shopping guys!

Not to rain on your parade, but did you happen to get that in writing? The odds are you will be fine, but if they are completely on the up and up, they should offer you the same one year parts and labor warranty offered by Canon USA - http://www.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/support/warranty/warranty_EOS_digital_camera.pdf (http://www.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/support/warranty/warranty_EOS_digital_camera.pdf), since they *know* they will never be called to honor it. I say this because they are not "authorized" dealers. See http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/pdf/dealer/CanonAuthorizedDealers.pdf (http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/pdf/dealer/CanonAuthorizedDealers.pdf) for a list of authorized dealers. They are not on it. These bodies may be from USA kits that they buy in bulk from authorized dealers, but then the warranty may start the day they made the purchase, not the day they sold it to you.

On the other hand, you bought the camera at an incredible discount compared to the current prices at Amazon/B&H/Adorama ($3499 - 4% "rewards" or ~$3359 assuming you use the reward dollars). At the very worst, that price difference is insurance against the unlikely event of a repair that you might need in the first year that might not be covered. Unless it's an extremely expensive repair, which is indeed highly unlikely, you will still be ahead of the game. I think it's a bit of a gamble, but one I might take too.

Yep, I did get it in writing. I'm not too concerned as I have a few cameras and 7 years of working, I've yet to have any major issues with my gear. If Canon won't honor the warranty, I'll take the issue up with BVI. I have copies of our email correspondence just in case. I was just happy to get one at such a great price. No one I'm paying $3500 for the Mark III. It's an awesome camera don't get me wrong, but grossly overpriced in my opinion.

What I meant by sealed is all the included items inside the box were sealed. Sealed batter, sealed manuals, sealed discs, etc. The camera was in the same shipping condition as one you'd buy from anywhere else. Brand new. :)

Their listing at http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230892739424 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230892739424) has ended because "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available." even though they had more than 10 available earlier.

They do have a separate listing at http://www.ebay.com/itm/221116170557 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/221116170557) for $3015. They've had both for awhile.

No raining :)

I did get it in writing as well -- but the point about when the start date of the warranty begins is an interesting question, that I just posed to them via the same thread, so I can get that in writing too just in case

I believe this is what they've done for quite a while now. BVI seems to have lots of auctions on ebay for different prices, and every once and a while they have a special deal for the low price (somewhere around 2600). They sell around 200 and then cut the deal off. Then keep the 3000ish price for a while, until the next special deal. Their cameras go quick, it's no surprise that if they had 10 left, it'd be finished in no time at all.

Hooray!

I got the package from the August 13th 5D Mark III eBay auction from Big Value Inc! Chose 2-day shipping, shipped August 14th, arrived in Los Angeles August 16th.

Packaging was perfect. Aside from the camera (NON kit box) it came bundled with bag, two non-Canon batteries, one AC/DC charger, SD/SDHC/Micro SD card reader and a 32GB Class 10 Toshiba SDHC. Those additinal items came in the same package but of course not in the 5D box. Plenty of packaged air bags for cushioning, plus an invoice / Bill of Sale dated August 14 (meaning my Canon warranty will last through August 14, 2014).

Again, the 5D came in a 5D body only box, NOT a kit with the lens removed. All original accessories found inside (including warranty / registration card) with Canon USA written everywhere imaginable, with sealed baggies (except for the eye cup, and battery charger I believe, but it didn't look like that one was supposed to be sealed). Camera was of course spotless, and serial numbers matched on the box, on the bottom of the camera, on the registration card and on the EXIF of the camera. Oh, and it came with the 1.2.1 firmware, so this shipment is very new! And of course, the serial number is not one of those affected by the light leak phenomena from last year (those affected cameras have their 6th digits either a 1 or 2)

Pictures are attached, but yo -- this is extremely legitimate. nearly $1000 off manufacturer price -- no idea how they did it, but there were no downsides. Perfect transaction that delivered a perfectly brand-new Canon USA 5D with Canon USA warranty. Without a doubt, totally worth it!

Images attached :) (I erased the serial numbers in post, so don't be alarmed if they're not there!)

No. They had more than 10 listed as still available when they ended it. You can see it in the original listing by clicking on the "See original listing" link.

Here you see that they just ended it, allegedly with over 10 in stock.

They may be on the up and up, I just find them to be suspect considering they are not authorized dealers and they obviously sell below the MAP. I would like to hear from someone, anyone, that they were able to get warranty service on their products. Then I'd feel better.

Until then, I'd rather buy a refurbished one from Canon for $2800 - http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/cameras/refurbished-eos-digital-slr-cameras/eos-5d-mark-iii-body-refurbished (http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/cameras/refurbished-eos-digital-slr-cameras/eos-5d-mark-iii-body-refurbished) - with a one year warranty that I know is good. And I know it's been thoroughly checked by Canon. It's a few hundred more, but worth it in my opinion.

Jim, I thought that "More than 10 available" meant they had more than 10 to sell overall, not that they were available at that moment. Anyone can correct me if I am mistaken.

Good point about the refurbished option though. Refurbs from most manufacturers are great deals on almost new items.

No, "More than 10 available" means they have more than 10 still available. When you make an eBay listing and your inventory is more than 10 start, you have the choice to give an exact count above 10 or not. Once the inventory gets below 10, you see the exact number still available, like this concluded one:

Call me a skeptic, and I am that, but these guys are at best reselling new goods and trying to make a profit by breaking up kits. They are not authorized dealers and I doubt authorized dealers can do that without jeopardizing their status as such. That doesn't mean that Canon is not allowing BVI to do this with a wink and a nod, but no one really knows what their business relationship is, if any.

While I have no problems with profit, I am concerned about the true nature of the warranty. On the other hand, it's still not a bad deal even if you have an uncovered $500 repair the first year.

I wouldn't buy from them in the $3000 range, but the $2500 price point might be a tempting one.

Their eBay feedback is terrible at 98.2%. It may sound good to the uninitiated, but anything below about 99.5-99.6% on that many transactions is bad. They have 288 negatives in the last year including 16 in the last month alone. Add to that another 214 neutrals and that's a lot of dissatisfied customers. More to the point, here are some recent comments from http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=bigvalueinc&iid=231029946824&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=365&_trkparms=negative_365 (http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=bigvalueinc&iid=231029946824&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=365&_trkparms=negative_365):

And some more:

Usually the negatives are the tip of the iceberg but these are worrisome.

You can see some similar comments in the neutrals at http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=bigvalueinc&iid=231029946824&de=off&items=200&which=neutral&interval=365&_trkparms=neutral_365 (http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=bigvalueinc&iid=231029946824&de=off&items=200&which=neutral&interval=365&_trkparms=neutral_365).

Again, you see comments about grey market and no warranty, and used cameras sold as "new". I made the comment earlier in this thread that they offered a one year parts and 90 day labor warranty "in case" Canon does not honor the alleged warranty. My point was that, and is, if indeed these cameras are truly Canon warrantied, BVI should offer the same one year parts and labor, because they'd know they'd never need to make good on it.

Compare this to Adorama with a feedback rating of 99.7% and 13 total negatives in the last year, four of which came from the same user - http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=adorama&iid=-1&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=365&_trkparms=negative_365 (http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=adorama&iid=-1&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=365&_trkparms=negative_365).

I know Canon is not Apple, but would you buy a "new" MacBook Pro from a non-authorized dealer and expect to get warranty service from Apple? They'd probably laugh at you.

More negative and neutral feedback on eBay regarding "new USA warrantied" Canon goods:

Caveat emptor.
