As always, buyer beware.  This is most certainly a grey market camera (some people care about that, others don't) and this seller has a reputation of selling used cameras as new, or missing parts: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=bigvalueinc&iid=230828116912&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=30&_trkparms=negative_30 (http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=bigvalueinc&iid=230828116912&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=30&_trkparms=negative_30)

Not happy to see CR promoting shady dealers like this.  I don't come to CR to find back alley deals.  ::)

I have a small business and sell on ebay.  About 0.5 - 1% of the buyers act like total idiots, they expect much more than advertised.  Many with a issue do not actually send a e-mail, they just think they did.  Documenting it by using the ebay email system really helps.
The biggest issue is wrong addresses.  A seller is going to ship to the address provided by ebay or Paypal, and a certain percentage have moved but not updated their address, or, they just plain do not know their correct address.  Then, its the sellers fault for not knowing!!
I immediately correct any problems that are made known to me, but there are a lot of people who do not read and want something that was not offered or listed, then they complain.
Negative feedback goes with the territory.  If a big seller has about 2% or less of issues, they are doing a reasonable job.  If they were perfect, they would still have up to 1% negative feedback.

In that case, digigood with 208,000 sales and 99.7% eBay positive feedback must attract exceptionally good buyers.

Of course, there are definitely a ton of positive comments too.  As I stated earlier in the post, some people don't care about grey market -- others do, so yes you can always make your own decisions.

The trouble with the type of feedback that has been given is that it is often for shipping used cameras when the buyer purchased a new one, or taking out some of the included accessories.  Slow shipping, poor communication, shipping damage -- that all happens, and I've sold about 2500 items on eBay so I know the complaints that I've had against me.

There are numerous 5D mkIII listings where it was shipped without accessories -- that should never ever happen. It just pays to do a little research and decide if you want to chance such a large purchase from a dealer who has been known to have honesty and trust issues.

I'm with you crimson blue....if a person is going to make an $6000 purchase on a precision instrument like a 1Dx, then you should buy from a reputable canon dealer.  If you don't, you're just asking for trouble.

BH and Adorama are "quality" sellers with good prices.  When buying high end items of any kind, buy from a "quality" seller.

I agree. I do not think CR should put promotions on the home page unless it is from an authorised dealer, and even then it should be checked it is genuine and not new age advertising.

BigValue is a Canon authorized seller. Any more questions?

"authorize seller"  ....humm....then why are they selling 1DX's at "unauthorized" prices??

I'd have much better gear if so.  ;)  Try looking them up on Canon's web site before you jump to conclusions...

Can you point us in the right direction?

This is Canon's list of authorised dealers in the US:

http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/pdf/dealer/CanonAuthorizedDealers.pdf (http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/pdf/dealer/CanonAuthorizedDealers.pdf)

This is a recent thread on CR about said company:

http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=11200.0 (http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=11200.0)

I also looked at their own website and you would think an authorised dealer would be proud of such a thing and use it as a selling point yet it does not mention it anywhere.

I have nothing against them, but now you have peaked my interest.

Now that you've defended Big Value with bad information three times on this thread...so far...please tell why Big Value is not listed here:

I agree.  I found B&H on that list but not BigValue.

I once bought a canon A2E (eye controlled) camera from a questionable New York dealer many years ago and they ended up shipping me a questionable EOS 5 (European version).  Yep, gray market without a warranty.  They also threw in a few super cheap accessories not for free which I didn't order.  Oh, and they took an extra month to get it all to me.  I learned my lesson that day about questionable dealers.  Your mileage may vary.  Good luck if you use them.

Since there is obviously no "Big Value" on Canon's list, and I cannot recall whether they had a different corporate name listed in the past, let's assume I was incorrect about Big Value being an authorized dealer. For that I will gladly feast upon a large plate of crow. My bad. That does not mean that they are a bad or unreliable seller as their feedback indicates. They are obviously a very high volume dealer and mistakes happen. The real issue is whether, given the chance, they will fix the problem. Since I have never bought from them, I can't answer that question. Their not being an authorized seller will not render the Canon (USA) warranty void as has been discussed in these forums extensively. If you receive a gray market item, the answer is not so clear. Anecdotal testimony indicates that Canon will honor such a warranty, but on such big ticket items, I would not want to put that to the test. So, if I bought a "USA Warranty" item from them and received a gray market item, I would contact them and hope that they would switch it with a US model. If they refused to make the matter right, then I would open a dispute with "ebay Buyer Protection." Between ebay and paypal, you are protected with a money back (including shipping) guarantee. If all this seems to be too much trouble for you, then by all means, buy from B&H, Adorama, Amazon or whoever. I buy my gear from the seller that has the best deal that I feel comfortable with, and I advise you to do the same...

HOW DO YOU CONFIRM THAT? An authorized dealer wouldn't sell brand new camera with missing accessories, not just one time, but mutli-times. Cameras were shipped from diff locations. Is that ring the bell PEOPLE? Is that considered as BRAND NEW?

Just like buying a 1D X from an alley for $5K

There's one finishing on eBay in just over 30 hours, no bids yet, open box new with warranty from authorized Canadian dealer.

www.ebay.ca/itm/CANON-EOS-1DX-18-1MP-DIGITAL-SLR-CAMERA-NEW-SHOPWORN-BOX-/290870540839 (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/CANON-EOS-1DX-18-1MP-DIGITAL-SLR-CAMERA-NEW-SHOPWORN-BOX-/290870540839)

oddly worded description quote, but supposed to be a new body

Please note: *THIS IS NEW PRODUCT WITH A TORN BOX* WE ARE UNABLE TO ASCERTAIN THE SHUTTER COUNT.

lots of hits on the page but nobody has come up with a bid just yet.
I still don't want one of these.  ;D
