Title: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Price Drop
Post by: Canon Rumors on July 25, 2012, 07:06:47 AM
From B&H
The slide down of the Canon EOS 5D Mark III pricing has begun. B&H Photo currently has the 5D Mark III body only listed at $3349 and the kit with the 24-105 f/4L IS at $4149. That’s a drop of $150 on both ways to buy the 5D3.

They make a place for high MP above 5d3? :) Very good news. Another 350$ and maybe I could afford it selling what I have :)

That really doesn't make me very happy.  Bought mine 2 weeks ago and now the price starts dropping.  >:(

Same here, since the improved AF is the only real point of interest.

I think I'll hang on to my 5D2 until the 5D3 drops below 2900. Or maybe until the 5D4 shows up. lol.

Waiting for the announcement of the new FF, if it's not what I want, and the 5D3 is down to $3000, I'm biting.  I don't think we will see a $3000 5D3 price for a long time but I think there is a good chance we will see a Christmastime rebate around $3000--that will work for me.

I hope Canon learned their lesson, you can not count on glory of the past, both 5D and 5D MK-II were continous break through but 5D III did not continue the expected tradition of big breakthrough, despite the fact it is a very good general purpose camera, in addition they raised price too high adding insult to injury. I believe the price drop is reflection of buyers power. we are hoping the new camera will at minimum keep or improve good features of 5D MK III and fill in the deficiencies, of better dynamic range, more pixels to meet the need to landscape and studio photographers, uncompressed HDMI output and may be 16 bit color depth, who knows.
Folks, please comment what would ytou like to see in new camera. Thank you,

Crap...I got mine barely over a week ago from BH...Am I basically effed? Is it worth trying to return and buy again or would they catch on to that?

Worth calling and asking for a price adjustment.  Since you're within the return period (or maybe not, they do specific a 200 shutter count max), you could go the return-rebuy route.  Most vendors understand that, and will just give you a one-time price adjustment (i.e. refund the difference between what you paid and the new, lower price).

Probably near 600 actuations (within return period definitely though)...worth a call, thanks!

This price slide only makes sense. I guess they figured that the first wave of buyers who are ready to pay whatever for the "latest and greatest" is now depleting, the 800 is getting more in stock and its bugs are being taken care of, so its time to move on with getting the price down to the actual market value.

Canon could make a bigger splash in consumer world with original MSRP of MKIII under $3K, with MKII as an entry level body for another year and with $3800 high megapix model. Instead they decided to milk a certain consumer group and only after that to adjust the price. Disgusting but quite predictable corporate practice.

Personally, I'm waiting for the 800 price slide.  Just a thought of having a 36MP body with high DR for studio work for around $2700 makes me hyper.  ;D

Some people are selling new 5D3 on craigslist in bay area about 3K.  It looks like a deal for me.  Does anyone has experiences buying camera from craigslist?  Any concern and Canon warranty issue?

You won't see any difference in IQ among the D800, 5D Mark III, or 5D Mark II.  You're paying for larger files is all.  Especially so for studio/portrait work.

**cringes

So If I were to put up my 4 month old 5d3 on CL, I's probably get $2800 for it if new ones are going for 3000, thats a $700 loss in 4 months...  >:( >:( >:(

I did this also.  Bought mine from B&H less than 2 weeks ago for $3484.  Called and they said it's within their 30day price match guarantee period so they refunded the difference to bring my cost down to the current $3349.  Thumbs up to B&H  :D

I've even seen it as low as 2800.
A canon authorized dealer were selling them not too long ago on ebay with the battery grip and memory card for 3200 and change SMH.

such a huge price drop in such short time. I really wish I would have waited.

WOW!  5D3 for 2.8K from authorized dealer.
3K is good for me already.  I actually just want to know if the warranty can be transferred if I buy a new 5D3 from CL.  2.8K surely is even better.  How can I find those kind good deals?

Well go figure.

Everyone should have waited! It was obvious from the start that the 5D3 was heavily overpriced, and that a significant price drop could happen at any time. If more people could have held off their purchase, the price drop would have come even faster!

This fall the 5D3 will be down under 3k everywhere. By November / December it will be around 2750.

I'm glad I waited. What is the hurry anyway?

Looks like the price drop was just temporary:  the prices at B&H and Adorama are back to the original $3499.  :(

Best Buy still has it listed "on sale" at $3,349.

A place in Monsey, NY called Profeel Marketing Inc. (an authorized Canon Dealer -- I looked it up!) has it on their eBay site (PMI Digital) for just $3,199.75.  Anyone ever dealt with them?

The Imaging World in Brooklyn has or had the 5D Mark III for $3100.   They had the deal through ebay and perhaps direct as well, not sure....  I think that they're an authorized dealer.  I bought my 1D Mark IV and a lens or two from them a while back, I've been pleased.  They did want an outrageous sum for a 1Dx, however, I went elsewhere for that....

some of the cheaper 5d3 on ebay have the serial numbers that are affected by the light leaking issue

perhaps bh was trying to sell all the affected units at lower price?
or because most professional have already bought it for this wedding season so the sale was bad hance the quick sale for ones that wanted buy it but ... damn... dont want to pay that much

5d3 over priced? and who doesnt want it to be cheaper? most wedding and event photographers would rather have better lowlight ability than higher resolution.
the ability to use 12800iso confidently in a professional situation really really open up new possibilities!

Honestly light leaking is not a big issue.  I think that was discussed here before and most people do not care about that.  If I can get a new one for about 3K from authorized dealer, I would like to get one now.  I saw 3K deal for new 5D3 on Craigslist and that was really attractive.  However, I don't know if the warranty can be transferred to me or not.  Any advise?

!!HIDDEN!! price drop (sale special price?) at Beach Camera via Amazon.

5D Mark III with SanDisk Extreme 32 Gb SD card - $3,399.

The 5D3 alone is still at $3499, and the kit above is also $3499 direct from Beach.

Cliff that's a great question.  I've been wondering if a Canon warranty can be transferred from the original buyer to another person.  Does anyone know?  Maybe Mt. Spokane knows?

Any new rumors about the price drop? 3000 would be acceptable price for me.
When do usually Christmas rebates kick off?

I got mine a month ago from J&R for $3244.  According to the serial number, it was not one of ones with the 'light leak issue.'

In Belgium the price is 3000 EURO. Is there a good webshop (reliable) where I can buy it for a better price?

What are your expectations for the price around the holidays, do you believe it will drop more? Do you think it will be affected by the performance of 6D?

Thanks for your guestimations :)

I predict a $150 rebate at the most and probably not until after the holidays.

I don't see the 6D sales, good or bad, affecting 5D3 sales up or down.  These two cameras are too far apart, it would be like Rebels affecting 7D sales.  I'm sure Rebels affected 60D sales and 50D and 60D affected 7D sales.  There should be a body between this 6D and the 5D3.

Just my guess and the way I see it.

Well, in Canada the MSRP went quietly from $3800 to $3600 and in addition Canon Canada offers $100 discount. That, I guess, explains why some large retailers are selling this camera at $3400. Looking forward to holiday deals!

I agree that prices may be very good over the holidays.  However, surveys of Dealers that I've seen seem to indicate that they are not planning any big blowouts.  If sales are slow though, the price pressure will be on.

There's been another drop.  The kit can now be bought for $3,749.

This is exactly why I think those that don't Canon sales have been hurting, are wrong.  I've never seen rebates extended this long before either.  No one discounts their products if they are selling well.
