EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Survival of the fittest/luckiest
« on: August 26, 2012, 07:17:51 PM »
Was in Rome last week with the misses, and was in bed relaxing. My wife wanted to take a blanket from the top shelf in the closet, where I have layed my 24-105L, and I just got to say "careful I have a lens up there", and then she pulled the blanket. Out came the lens from 2 meters height, but I caught it half a meter before it hit the marble floor.
Complete reflex lucky catch! :D

Ask them if they would ever say to a chef: Hey that was a nice meal, you must have a really good frying pan!

Lenses / Re: 50mm 1.2 vs 35mm 1.4

First of all, I haven't had the 50L, only the 50 f1.4.
But I do have the 35L, and I absolutely love it. I love the fact that you can use it inside for low light shots, that are wide enough for my taste. IMO the focal length of the 50, 80, 135 etc. primes, limit our use for low light.

Shot with Canon 35L @ 1.4
ISO 5000

And the bokeh is lovely.

There's hope that canon will make the switch:
The new 22mm EOS M lens has it: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-M-22mm-f-2-STM-Lens-Review.aspx

Lenses / Re: EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM vs. EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. I found your input to be very valuable and helpful.

I decided to go with the 70-200 f/4 IS, and placed my order for it and a 5D MK3 body today. While I love fast lenses, I went with the f/4 because compared to the f/2.8 II, it is $1000 less expensive after the current rebates are added in.
Equally important, and the real deal maker, is the size and weight of each. The f/2.8 II weighs 1490 grams and the f/4 comes in at 760 grams. I own the 24-70 f/2.8 which weights 950g. I actually like the heft of the 24-70, but it's on the edge of being uncomfortable to use hand held for more than an hour or so. I was afraid that the f/2.8 II would be too much to lug around, especially since travel photography is one of major uses I would put it to.

Good choice, I have that combination as well. Even though I would prefere the 2.8, it's just too expensive and heavy compared to the 2.8.
f4 is just so much value for money, and it's insanely sharp!

Technical Support / Re: 5D Mark III, save video on SD??
« on: May 21, 2012, 02:09:47 PM »
donjensen - the problem I have is Lightroom, on a PC, doesn't download the MK III videos. LR 4 downloads and imports raw and jpg stills but not the video files. I have to use Zoombrowser or Windows Explorer to download the videos from the card.

Since I changed the "Rec", I can now see the files in LR4, on my SD card.

Yes you can save to the CF, but you have to have a card that's fast enough and change some settings.

I want to save to SD, as I wrote.

It seems that you even though "Rec. to multiple" is selected, the "Playback" determines witch card the video is stored on.

Since I changed the "Playback" to the SD card, it now only stores the video to the SD.

too many people are making threads with a single question that is easily answered by the manual.  Check page 116 and the following few pages

Technical Support / 5D Mark III, save video on SD??
« on: May 21, 2012, 09:43:57 AM »
My workflow (when traveling) is that the 5D Mark III saves to both cards, and after that I use the SD slot on my MacBook Pro for importing to lightroom. I then use the camera to format the cards.
For some reason the videos are only saved the CF card.

Because of that, unfortunately I deleted a wonderful video from the metro in Paris, of people playing music.

Is there any way to make the camera save videos to SD as well?

Macro / Re: Gross me out
« on: May 07, 2012, 11:19:02 AM »
I've been told by a few people that this gives them "the willies".

Shot this wolf spider with a 60D and 60mm macro.  No fancy focus stacking or anything like that. :)

EDIT: Looks like this forum downsizes pictures with no option to "click and see full size" (a little odd for a photography site) so here's a link to the 1200 pixel version http://www.deviantconstrictors.com/assets/galleries/328/IMG_3924.JPG

That´s freaking awesome, look at that monster! Just look at it!!! :D

I have tried several programs: Photoshop, Elements, and Aperture, but my favorite by far, is also Lightroom.
Lightroom just makes raw editing so easy, plus it has an excellent export features, and library.
Try it for free in 30 days - nothing to loose.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Product Advisory
« on: April 15, 2012, 02:54:51 PM »
I've been busy using my camera and didn't know it had a problem until I read it here. The product advisory has given people an opportunity to be mad about many things. A lot of people online are really mad about stuff.
Some believe Canon rushed the new camera, others are pissed they had to wait so long.  Others want a bunch of new features as long as the price stays low.  And why isn't it just like the new Nikon ? Some say they will never purchase Canon cameras again but visit this website every day.

I want to start using perfect cameras, can someone suggest a model or brand ?

For years I've driven Honda sedans. Great cars. Recently I received a recall notice for an airbag problem. I brought it to the dealer and they corrected it quickly at no charge.  I appreciate the safety notification and the quick, friendly service, but I'm considering being mad. I spent a lot of money for that car and it should be perfect like a Toyota.

Canon may come up with a reasonable solution to this issue, and I may never hear of anyone having a serious problem with the camera, but I just might become mad anyway.  If I send my camera in once in a while to be cleaned or for a new shutter I'll get by, but if there's any kind of recall, I'm switching to Nikon !
I'm taking this as being a joke right?

Of course it´s a joke!!

Lenses / Re: 24-105 f/4 & 5d3 vs 24-70 f/2.8 & 5d2

The 70-200 f4 L IS is amazing value for money! It's fast and super sharp, and often sharper compared to the f2.8 II IS version.
I have borrowed the f2.8 II IS, and even though the speed is good, it's just too heavy IMO weighing 1 kilo more than the f4.
I have wet dreams about the 35L, do you have any pics online with the Mark III + 35L?
