Pulled the trigger on it.  it is actually $1319 , lowest ive seen.  This will replace  a 5DII. But ive been out with others shooting the milkyway at night and the 6D just does a better job. hope the 6D is atleast equal on weather sealing. ill keep the 5DII on standby mode or as an extra. since I have a battery grip and L bracket for it. im excited on what next year brings too. hope everyone gets some deals this season :)

They ship yours yet?  I only got a tracking # on Monday and it's stayed that way since.   Not really showing shipped by FedEx.  Just label created...

EOS Bodies / Re: EOS 7D Mark II Shipping October 30, 2014

I just got an email from B&H this morning stating the camera is still out of stock as they have not yet received their supply. I pre ordered on the first day of availability.

Yes I got the same email.  I think this is their weekly notification and is automated...and badly ill timed.
Just ill timed enough to cause those of us who received it to wonder when ours might ship.  Hopefully you have the right idea East Wind.

I got the same email. But to put it in perspective... We've waited 5 years for this... What's an extra day?  My suggestion... Grab the camera you have and go make some great images.   ;)

Yup, guess I will have to got out today with my crappy five year old 7D and see if I can come back with a wildlife pic or two.   ::)

Just called B&H...Guy told me they expect inventory on 11/3.   Oh well.   Adorama already showing out of stock...  Maybe some of them we're on that rocket that blew up in VA....

I'm guessing this was intended to go here: http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=21186.0

I find that sometimes when you are in a thread when you log into the site, it forwards you to the next thread from the login screen rather than returning you to the appropriate thread.
No kidding! Thanks for the heads-up. I've never had it do that before.

And to make this reply on-topic, I've been thinking about selling my 150-600mm that I got back in early February. I really like the range and it's a great lens for the price, but it has really made me even more tempted to spend my money on at least one Canon supertelephoto.

Funny you say that...Been thinking the same thing...I got the Bigron in Feb...While it's a good lens, I'm not gonna say great.  My 400L 5.6 is sharper and if I crop a shot to 600mm equivalent, it's probably better than if I used 150-600...

Software & Accessories / Re: Gimbal head or not for Tamron 150-600
« on: June 12, 2014, 03:25:50 PM »
IMO, you need support for both stability and easy of use.  I've not held that Tamron, but looking at photos and the weight of the lens, a good ballhead will easily provide enough stability.  As far as ease of use (panning, movement, relieving weight), a gimbal will really help, but for the size of that Tamron, I think it's overkill.

I purchased the Wimberley II for my 200-400 which is a bigger lens than the Tamron.  Even with the 200-400, I could have gotten away with a ballhead.  The main advantage with the gimbal for me, was easy of movement and peace of mind (you don't have to worry about locking the ballhead really tight to prevent flop).

This is less of an issue and some will laugh at me for saying this, but that Tamron will look a little odd sitting on a big gimbal.

It's not just the weight of the lens...That Bigron extends out quite a bit and factor in that big hood.  Center of gravity shifts depending on where you have it extended.   Hence gimbal over ballhead in this case.   PLUNK !

I've had the cheap knock-off gimbal you see on ebay for around ~95 bucks for 3 yrs now.  Never had an issue using it with my 400 5.6 L .  I just got the Bigron 150-600 and I would rather use it with the gimbal and turn off the IS.  Seeing sharper results that way.   (now let me press "Post" and duck away)   ;)
