Interestingly my wife changed her "low speed" - "continuous shooting speed" setting from 3 to 5 sots per second, (mine was at 7), & hers is playing up now also.
Setting it back to 3 shots per second doesn't get it performing properly again.

Speed, (or others), any word back from Canon on the erratic/dimmed blinking of the focus points?  You mentioned you sent them an email,  and I am experiencing the same thing.   Also, anyone else experiencing this phenomenon?

Not yet, I'll message them again soon.  At the moment for some reason I can't send a message via their support page.

Edit: I rang them because their support site is down.
Their response was for me to send my camera in to them which is not currently an option for me.
Everything else appears to be working fine so I'll just turn off the red indicator for the moment & hopefully enough other people will complain to them so that they'll look to resolve the issue in their next firmware release.
If not I can probably send my camera in to them in January.

The problem occurs with the exact same settings.  I loaded the config from one camera to the other.

There is more to this blinking than is normal.  My wife's IDX performs perfectly & just blinks once when focus is achieved.
Mine however blinks constantly, less brightly & even when I don't have my finger on the shutter button.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

We've each only had 1 error message & we've taken over 20,000 shots each so it's not time to slash my wrists yet, but still, I've never had error messages on any cameras previously.

Edit:  I should add that other than that, the camera continues to amaze me.....I love it.

I see that not many people are reporting the error 80 message lately.

My wife & I have each had error 80 messages in the last couple of weeks shooting a gymnastic event.
We both missed some really important shots. 

Both cameras have had the 1.06 firmware update.

Anyone else still experiencing issues?

I'm a professional but I reckon hobbyists should buy whatever they wish.
I dread to think of what I spent on motor racing in a 20+ year period of ametuer competition.
Any person should follow their passion in my opinion & there are plenty of ametuers who are far better at photography than a lot of professionals.  Whether or not someone makes money from there passion is not an issue.

have you contacted leederville camera house to see hteir price?

they were doing the 5Dmk3s for $3599

By the time you pay freight with insurance & GST the difference between 7,800 & 6,800 is not the great.

I need a zoom & the 70 - 200 2.8 is pretty perfect.

I'm pretty disappointed in the 1D4 at 6400 so I wouldn't go any higher with it.

Black leotards in at EV5 is probably not a good mix.

My photography will pay for the 1DX so I figure I'll get one the second they're available.  I ordered two in October last year & paid deposits in January so I reckon I've waited long enough and I have faith that Canon have the bugs sorted.  My 5D is also over its rated shutter actuations so I've had my use from it.

Are people so disatisfied with their existing kit that they would switch just because they cant wait? I can see with some pros that might be the case - or is it mostly because they want the latest and greatest?

I can't speak for anyone but myself but I shoot indoor sports 99% of the time & I find the 5DII & the 1DIV just don't cut it.  I have to underexpose at 6,400 iso & f2.8 & still don't get a high enough shutter speed....not even mentioning the focus issues or the shots that I don't even attempt because I know that they'll be blurry.

I know that I'm very selfish, I'm sorry, but personally since 99% of my shots are at f2.8 & since the reason they left out f8.0 to improve operation wide open, I'm very happy that it is missing.

Am I to understand that Canon didn't realize most pro shooters were expecting the next flagship body to be a 35-40 mp sensor full frame?

What, I don't know any pro shooters wanting 35-40 mp.  I certainly don't, that would be useless to me.
