EOS Bodies / Re: A Bit of Mirrorless Informaton [CR3]

If it has APS-C sensor, flash hotshoe, cable shutter release socket,  silent live view (best feature of canon cameras for macro photography) and comes with a EF adapter at launch I am in

So interchangeable lenses are to be the only feature differing it from P&S line?

That feature (native interchangeability, with adapter or not, with EF lenses) alone is big enough for event/wedding photogs to get it as a backup camera for its light weight and compact size.

What the hell is canon doing?

All the resources must have been dragged to the Cinema line!   :o

4
And a flood of LCD pressing and probing commences.:)

And then the headline of next week reads "LCD pressing causes top menu unreadable/broken/liquid-crystal-leak"...

5
Roger / Craig, mind to share any pictures of the "new" top LCD?

EOS Bodies / Re: Best 5d3 custom function AF point selection quick!
« on: April 13, 2012, 01:17:26 PM »
While we're on the topic, what are some other highly useful tweaks and tips that are assumed knowledge? I think we'll be surprised to see how many people were otherwise unaware.

Does anyone know if we can do 1-step control over AF Area Selection Mode (vs. 2-step control on p. 73)?  I want to have a quick way to switch between One-Shot AF (coupled with Single-Point AF) AI Servo AF (associated with AF Point Expansion).  With a configured DOF button to toggle (technically not toggling since holding down is AI Servo while releasing is One-Shot) between One-Shot and AI Servo, I want to do similar 1-step toggle between Single-Point AF and AF Point Expansion (or other AF Area modes that are beneficial to AI Servo).  Is it possible?  Does anyone have other alternatives?

I expect most of us are already well aware of this, but if you aren't, try setting the AF-on button to AF-start and decoupling AF-start from the shutter half press (switch the half-press from AF + metering start to just metering start) - this arrangement is one of the major advantages of the mid and high-end bodies over the Rebels and gives you a great deal more control over AF in use.

I am going to try this to see if it's easier to do AE-Lock and Recompose/AF.  I'd imagine your described way is clicking AF-on button to AF first followed by recomposing/half-pressing-shutter to meter, right?

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Recall?
« on: April 12, 2012, 03:56:00 PM »
IS sound issue with the 200 & 800mm perhaps.

Maybe, but 800/5.6 and 200/2 owners are few so I doubt a camera wide re-call.

No matter how few owners there are, if that problem exists and it's a mechanical problem that needs to be fixed in the camera, they have to recall everything out there right?  It doesn't make sense to me if they just recall from those who have the lenses in question.  So you'd prefer to send in yours later when you plan to get 200 f/2 IS ?   :o

That sounds like it as it's the only issue Canon officially acknowledged so far for 5D3.  The other announced issue with DPP is only about the software itself.

EOS Bodies / Re: any more word on the 5d3+24-70 II Pro Kit?
« on: April 12, 2012, 02:12:59 PM »
The kit exists
http://www.leedervillecameras.com.au/CatalogueRetrieve.aspx?ProductID=3396216&A=SearchResult&SearchID=2535028&ObjectID=3396216&ObjectType=27

I will probably get it when i go for a mk3 body for my wife after i get a working copy to make sure its good
but i want to test that lens against the 3 fast primes in the range it covers first too before i shell out that much money on it

also keep in mid these are australian prices and this is probably the cheapest we have any real hope of seeing this kit available for on this continent

Just hope it doesn't turn into an Oceania thing only. Most of the early talk about it came out of Canon in Australia and New Zealand. Someone claimed they did see a mention of it for the US too though, even with official pricing and all for the US, but since then it's just gone silent. I wonder if Canon USA didn't decide to can the idea since then? In the past the kits haven't always been the same across all countries and some have decided to opt out of certain kits.

But all of the kits should be available to Japan right?

Where do you see the mentioning of "Pro Kit" from Canon announcement?  From Australia?

Canon Japan shows only 2 packages (Body-only and Kit with 24-105):

One more delay and they will miss the Olympics! This is scary. The dream camera for sports shooters may not be ready (and if ready, i'm sure there will be plenty of orders not yet filled) for the most extreme sporting event in the world.

Given the hint of their announced reason of delay (...due to a delay to the start of mass production...), I guess they should have produced / delivered enough units of 1D X to Olympics journalists.  It sounds like the delay just affects the mass production for general public, while they might have created a separate production line for some sort of special (and early) order from large press houses...

Hey Craig and folks, do you have a link to the press release?  Is it an official statement from US / UK?
As of now, Canon Japan still shows 1D X to be released in late April:

"London, UK, 12 April 2012 – Canon would like to advise of updated sales start dates for the previously announced EOS-1D X and EF 24-70mm F2.8L II USM lens, due to a delay to the start of mass production. The EOS-1D X will now be available to buy from mid-June 2012, and the EF 24-70mm F2.8L II USM lens from early-July. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers."

This is as official as it will be. Don't expect any other statement from Canon. They hope the 4K cinema stuff will be burying this bad news fast.

Urgh...  just found the statement from Canon UK too...

From Canon
We previously reported that the Canon EOS-1D X had been delayed until June and the new EF 24-70 f/2.8L II delayed until July, both have been confirmed delays by Canon themselves.
There was no real reason given for the production delays.

The 5D Mark III get support
Adobe has released Lightroom 4.1 release candidate and it now supports the Canon EOS 5D Mark III.

Adobe Camera Raw 6.7 Release Candidate (supports 5D3 and D800) is also available too:

EOS Bodies / Re: 5DIII pre-order thread
« on: March 21, 2012, 07:05:12 PM »
Got my delivery confirmation from Adorama a couple hours ago. I'll have mine tomorrow!!! Finally the wait is almost over.

Me too!

I had 2 1Dx's on order but the 5D3 has this over / the same as, the 1Dx:

Lighter, AF system practically the same, Higher MP

If it wasn't that I trusted pro bodies and their extra features more I'd probably cancel both orders and go purely 5D but I'll get one of each.

For weddings just how much 'noticeable' difference in IQ will the client see between both bodies?

I've switched my pre-order of 1D X to two 5D III's.  It looks like by the time the general public is still waiting for their 1D X pre-order to be filled, I might have been actually having fun with 5D III for at least a month on client assignments.

I'm also considering to get one of each and I'm pretty sure a used 5D III within the first 6 months will still be a hotcake.  One of my 2 5D III's is more likely to be the stop gap before getting 1D X.
