EOS Bodies / Re: Big Announcements Coming Next Week [CR3]
« on: January 29, 2015, 02:56:29 AM »
But a new 6 or 5 body? Really should have it.

no problem, really easy: Canon just should offer 2 versions  ...
A)  "regular" stills-optimized 5D IV with 50 MP and no video out or HD-video at best @ 2999
and
B) a video-capable 5D IVs with 24 MP and internal 4k video capture (but not raw 4k out) @ 3,499 ... would be still competitive compared to 12 MP Sony A7s which requires use of an external recorder to capture 4k video [at significant additional cost]. Thanks to much larger 5D body internal 4k capture and heat dissipation should be no major issue.

I'd really like to see sales statistics then.

I do not know, but my guess is, that Sony sales of A7s are max. 10% of combined A7 / R / II units.

Yes. My only point was Canon needs SOMETHING with competitive 4k that isn't $10,000.  I don't see why they can't/won't make something competitive with the Sony and Panasonic offerings when Canon itself was the DSLR video pioneer. I don't expect RAW output for $3-4k. But a real clean 8-10bit HDMI out would be lovely and on par with the competition.  Add in Canon's superior color reproduction and the EF lens system...  Look at all the effort they put into the 7D2 video AF system.

Untill the 1080p snapshot has the resolution and quality of a 1080x1920 pix still; why are we asking for 4k when we know it will be a mush anyway?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D Mk3 Firmware 1.3.3 is out
« on: January 29, 2015, 12:51:27 AM »
I'd like Canon to consider improvements found in ML.

Ironic, Did you know 1.3.3 actually renders ML harder/impossible to use without providing any such additional functionality?

Great Shots mate, thanks for posting!

Take the same shot again on a tripod and live view focusing, that bypasses the AF sensor. OR you can try manual focus, but without a screen, it s bit hard. So try Liveview + Manual with liveview magnified.

If after that it is still not focused, then the lens might be a bad copy which is rare, but possible. However if you do get a sharp shot, then proceed to AFMA the lens and revert to PDAF.

Don't care who makes the 50mp sensor as long as it does not have ugly banding in the shadows. I'd be ok with 22mp without the OLPF if it was ISO invariant like some of the newer sensors. I am tied to the Canon system, I like it, I love their lenses.... but am sick of having them use 6 year old sensors in their FF line.... when every Tom, Dick and Harry has shown us what is possible with their redesigns. Why is Canon taking this lying down. This is not something you brush under the carpet, almost every tech discussion around Camera bodies involves the DReaded topic.... it's not going away boys.... Canon may be happy with their Rebel sales, but causing angst to their loyal enthusiasts is not very Business Savvy since the pros and enthusiasts are what boost their operating margins more.

I don't shoot video,  DPAF is not an innovation that get me very excited. Am looking forward to leaf or Global shutters, AF that locks on the eyes for portraits, AE linked to AF point... and non-Bayer sensors;  I don't care if it comes in a 1D body.... please give us stills shooters something to be excited about....

EOS Bodies / Re: Purchase 5DIII now, or wait for 5DIV?
« on: January 24, 2015, 04:46:12 AM »
You're talking about a camera (5D4) that is not even at the horizon although some talk about a potential announcement in 2015.

Canons Camera Division Executive  Masaya Maeda has twice confirmed that a new  high megapixel camera is coming soon. He mentioned it the first time back in SEP 2014.

DEC 14, 2014 he said: "We are thinking of a high pixel count cameras for users who want high resolution images, and it will come out soon. It will retain pixel quality while increasing pixel count.

No one here knows. So why ask?

Why answer, when you are not following the announcements from Canon?

Even if we do not know exactly what this camera will look like it would be rushing it to buy a Canon camera right now unless you absolutely need it or can exclude that you would be interested in Canon's soon-to-come-according-to-Canon-mangement DSLR.

This new DSLR will hopefully at least catch up with the substantial advances that Nikon has made since the 5DIII came out. And why should we not expect Canons newest DSLR will be better than anything Nikon has out there already?

If nothing else a new release will certainly lower Canon 5DIII prices even more.

Time from presentation to market is only a few weeks for new Canon DSLRs, so with any luck the new camera will hit stores in April if launched at the same photo show as the 5DIII was 3 years ago (guessing here).

Yes that .

Also, the old adage works, good things come to those who wait.

Technology almost always gets better.... so does IQ

Prices on current gear (excluding exceptions) always goes down.

So it makes sense to wait..... unless:

There is a definite need with a financial Impact. At the end of the day this decision will be driven by your patience, and if you are looking for confirmation then here is it from me:

Wait for the 5d4 or even a year longer for the 6D2.

As much as I enjoy exploring the latest from Neuro[resepct] and others on this site, I feel you guys need to take some chill pills ;D,it is after all only photography and not life saving surgery, just out of intensive care which gives a different perspective on things, keep on with entertaining us with your posts but possibly a little less rancour 8)

+1:  It's not a lot of fun watching a pee contest that does not want to stop, people need to know when to take a back seat sometimes. People may disagree with Dilbert's position, his base observations that Canon need to improve one area is not without merit, it's when he gets too far and forgets the strengths of the Canon system that it starts to get a bit of a drab, granted, the fact that respected members of our forum try their best to shame him relentlessly, does not garner a positive response from him either, what surprises me is his resolve to stay civil despite all the hate directed. Guys, please lets take it a notch down so that the rest of us 500 odd people can enjoy discussing rumors!

And  I humbly leave you all with this thought: In a pee contest, neither the loser, nor the winner come out clean...

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Sigma 24-105 f/4 DG OS Discontinued

I bought this lens, and after extensively comparing it to my Canon 24-70 f2.8, I sold the Canon. This is an outstanding lens.

Same here, I love it too.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Deal: Canon EOS-1D X Body $4199
« on: January 21, 2015, 01:16:55 AM »
At that price, if I didn't have one, I'd get one!

No matter what Canon have in pipeline, this is a lot of camera for the money and a 1DX-II will cost a lot more.

+1....very temping to pull trigger on 2nd 1DX.

Please don't.... you already have one.... what's coming is worth the wait I suspect :-)

Perhaps they are referring to the ver i of the 400 f2.8 and not the ii. Is that still available?
