Software & Accessories / Re: Google Buys Nik Software

I bet we'll see Control Point technology in Picassa soon. The Control Point patent must be the only reason why Google bought Nik

Software & Accessories / Re: GPS, does anyone really use this???

If you shoot in your studio all the time, you don't need GPS.
But if you are a street, landscape or travel photographer it would be a nice thing to have.

Lightroom now support GPS tags natively it even display the map where the images were shots.

I would have the GPS feature enable all the time on my 1DX if it had one built in. the GPS addon is 320$ and add some bulk to a camera already big enough...

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II Arrived
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:55:50 AM »
What I'd like to know is how the extending part of the lens react when the body + lens pressure is put on the lens hood. Juste like in the picture. The full weight of the camera is resting on a moving lens part...  On the old 24-70, thehood was fixed to the lens my body, not the extending part.

I worry that the extending part if the new 24-70 might loosen up and degrade the performance of the lens in a long run.

So far, the 1Dx is a blast to use!

Man does my 1D2 feels like a toy compared to it... :S

400 2.8 + 2XII

400 2.8 + 2XII

I have been on the pre-order list of a smaller store in Montreal since the day of te announcement and never got any call from them. But, I ordered Monday online with CameraCanada in London Ontario and they shipped my 1Dx one yesterday, only one day after I ordered it

I should have it by today or tomorrow. Give them a call or order online! :)

Good luck to all!

I ordered from a smaller shop in Montreal and they still haven't heard from Canon yet. Other, bigger, shops in Montreal received some 1Dx but they have a bigger waiting list so... I'll wait for Canon to deliver to the smaller shops.

We have reports they’ve shown up already in Montreal, Canada.

Which store? Lozeau? I wonder when Photo Service will get them... This is where I have my pre-order...

I just checked and they still only show it as a "pre-order" on their web site - maybe they aren't telling everyone.

They are telling everyone on their Twitter account.

EOS Bodies / 1Dx showing up in Canada...

It looks like Aden Camera has received some 1Dx. They are a store located in Canada. Just wanted to share info.

Another camera announced and still no 1Dx in sight. To add to the insult I bet those Rebels will be out before the 1Dx too.

Oh well... what we have here. I seriously don't understand. What is the "thing" Canon is suppose to be fixing with the 1Dx cameras?

1) If the problem with the 1Dx was purely a mass production problem, these camera we see in the box would be the final cameras and not pre-production models.

2) If it was a simple firmware only issue, they would release it anyway because a lot of people have already used them without major prod... And fix the small software problem via a patch, later.

3) If there was anything seriously wrong with the pre-prod cams, they would never send some to pro photog for Olympics and Euro 2012. Anyway, what pro photog would trust a camera on the job if they know the 1Dx have serious flaw.

4) That leaves only one thing in my mind... They are not fixing something nor having production problem. They are changing or upgrading something in the hardware, not software.

What is it? I dunno. Could be something minor like bigger memory buffer or it could be something major like f/8 support, red AF point in AI servo, etc... Your guess is as good as mine...

In any case, waiting sucks...

I can't believe this... I pre-ordered this camera when it was announced back in October and I found out a couple of days later that my girlfriend was pregnant. Now, I might have to find a temporary camera to photograph my first born because the due date is first of August.

After the 1D3 focus scandal... How can Canon do this to customers. Yes of course I what the 1Dx to be perfect when it launches but what are they doing? The 5D3 is out now and there is no major problems to report. So the 1Dx delay much be about something different than the 5D3 feature. Maybe the problem is with the new metering, or f/8 AF, or mirror mechanics.

But so far, no failure was reported from people who had the camera for 2-4 days. I'm pissed because when my 1D2 broke down last August I decided to wait for the new flagship camera. I expect to wait 3 months, not a year!

Has anyone received any confirmation that some pro have their 1Dx?? I check on twitter often and I have not seen anything but this rumor.

Do any of you had seen some pictures taken with a production 1Dx?

EOS Bodies / Re: Any new news about Canon 1D X f/8 AF?
« on: May 08, 2012, 08:40:35 AM »
I talked to them about the f/8 issue and the answer was the same. It's because the way they have the AF points.

I guess that for what you do, f/8 AF is important. Do you consider it an issue or not? Considering the 1Dx will be a great camera. Can it replace your 1DIV?
