EOS Bodies / Re: Which is better? 5D MKII or 6D?

The 6D is miles better , 5DII is 2008 technology to put it short.

So typical for this site is that most people here are just looking at 'written' specs and rarely at real world results and comparisons.

No, why would you go test a camera you can not operate without thinking in such a big once a year event ??

The event (and quality pictures) is much more important to a professional photojournalist.

Test the camera in an event when it does not matter so you can get to know the camera , seems more logical to me .

This rumor sounds very trustworthy and in line with earlier sensible rumors (not with wishlists offcourse)

Aside of the eyecontrol this what I expect the 5DMK3 to come out like.

EOS Bodies / Re: Still waiting for 5d mkiii but should I be?

If you already manage to 'outwear' a perfect good strong build 550D I would not wait to buy an more expensive 5D MK3
Buy a relatively 'cheaper' 5D MK2 but do realize it will not last 2 years in your hands.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5d mkII vs 50D in terms of AF
« on: December 16, 2011, 02:01:24 PM »
How does the 5DII AF compare to the T2i/550d or similar T3i/600d ?
Similar centre point ,lousy off-centre points ?

The individual points are similar in terms of performance between 5DII and the Rebel/xxxD cameras.  The center is cross-type with one f/2.8 line and one f/5.6 line, outer points are single-orientation f/5.6 (vs. the 40D-60D cameras where the center point is a dual cross with f/5.6 orthogonal lines and f/2.8 diagonal lines, and the outer points are f/5.6 crosses).

However, the relative spread of the 5DII AF points is worse - in fact, the 5DII has the least AF point spread of any current Canon camera (including the T3/1100D).  All of the others manage to get an AF point at least somewhere in the approximate neighborhood of a rule-of-thirds intersection, but the 5DII doesn't come close.

Thanks for this info, I could not find this detailed AF comparison information on The-digital-picture.com or any other site.
This info keeps me on the side of the ones waiting for what is coming (and saving money for that occasion) instead of buying now a discounted nice but 2008 technology 5D Mark II with a focus system even older.

The center point on the 5DII is just about as good as the center point on the 50D.  The off-center points are not nearly as effective as those on the 50D.

How does the 5DII AF compare to the T2i/550d or similar T3i/600d ?
Similar centre point ,lousy off-centre points ?

Lenses / Re: 4 lens conundrum - could use some help
« on: December 13, 2011, 03:02:17 AM »
You allready own the 60mm macro lens which is so sharp only baby's and children's  perfect skin can benefit from the added detail and sharpness it provides.
It will really show every little line or skintone in your face and I therefore highly recommend it over the 50mm 1.4 in your situation with the baby.

You allready have a great zoomlens in the 15-85 to cover the wider side , so I think you dont need extra lenses.
Buy a flash instead like the 430 exII /omnibounce to ad some extra light indoors for your 15-85 lens.

I would however have bought the Canon 17-55/2.8 over the 15-85 for the constant 2.8 aperture which really helps when taking pictures inside the house with the baby without a flash.

EOS Bodies / Re: 7D + 10-22mm or 5D III + 16-35mm L II?
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:50:42 PM »
Considering money is a factor as you explained.

I would buy the EF-S 10-22mm second hand which is a great lens in my user opinion.
You can enjoy it right now with your crop and start shooting on the wide end.

In time when you want to buy the 5D MKIII you can always sell the EF-S 10-22mm (for about the same price you bought it second hand )in order to fund your camera if you need to.

Remember that the starting price of the 5D MkIII might be very high just like the 5D MKII took some months to lower in price.
Owning the EF-S 10-22mm means no need to hurry yourself into a 5DMKIII

Lenses / Re: Buy a used 24-70 now or wait for new version?
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:39:59 PM »
I'm seriously considering a Canon 24-70 f/2.8L as a "general use" lens (I've been using a Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 with a Rebel XT but recently upgraded the body to a 50D. In time I plan on upgrading to a full frame body such as the 5D Mk.II or Mk.III, or in addition to the 50D, keeping the latter as a back-up body) but have followed the rumors of a new 24-70 possibly arriving at some stage.

Don't buy a 24-70 while right now you have a 50D with a Sigma 17-70.

You are seemingly still in doubt about buying a 5D MKII or MKIII , so why hurry to get a 24-70 MKI right now...
Dont bother about prices might raising on the 24-70 MKI , when the new 24-70 MKII hits the market , there will be many owners selling the 'old' version in order to get the new version.
Since so many 24-70 MKI were sold I dont see the problem to hurry and buy a lens now for a camera you will own later.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon 5D mkII price trajectory?

Is it normal for stores to have some warning above what you could find on this forum as to when they should start constraining their stock in time for an announcement/launch?

Have their been cases where the price has actually gone up? Anyone have a chart for the 5D?

I do have a schematic price history of the 5D MarkII  from German stores.
Press 'ubersicht und preise' for the shops
 http://geizhals.at/deutschland/?phist=366844&age=9999

In Holland it comes with a 5 years garanty  for 1689 euro's

EOS Bodies / Re: A Bit About the 5D Mark III? [CR1]
« on: December 06, 2011, 03:49:52 PM »

The purpose of the 5D Mrk III is not:
-   to be a great professional landscape camera
Landscaper Shooters who keep saying this is so popular.. please be realistic.

A real “pro” landscape photographer would be using medium or large format:
either 4” x 5” or 8” x 10” film (which is very affordable compared to digital a system),
or
a $12k+ Hasselblad cam system or  $9,995 penta 645D. Im sure pentax and hasslblad arehaving a hard to meeting the demand for these cameras!

You could not be more wrong !

Some of the best landscape photograpers here in the Netherlands use the Canon 5D Mark 2 and these people do shoots all over the world all year long at the most beautifull and sometimes difficult to reach places as I  learned in a seminar of one of them.

Being there at JUST the right time , catching the moment with magical light , the right season etc etc thats what counts in getting greater pictures in landscape.
They use big Gitzo tripods and Lee ND filters but seem to be very satisfied with 'just' a Canon camera.
