I own the 5DM3, my main body, but as this body will be mounted in an underwater housing I needed a second body for topside photography and I went for the 7DM2 because: exactly the same handling, same batteries. I was thinking about a second 5DM3 or even 1DX BUT:  5DM3 is slow for wildlife, giving advantage to the 7DM2 and 7DM2 has additional reach which isn't bad either, and 7DM2 comes with a very acceptable pricetag, and give the talk about a 5DM3 replacement I was very willing to invest in a 7DM2 body I can sell easily and purchase a up to date replacement.

just a question. While looking at pictures of the 7DM2 body I see that all buttons, switches etc are in the exact same position as the 5DM3. I could not find anything different. Does anybody know if the 7DM2 is in dimensión similar ?  Would it fit in the same underwaterhousing of the 5DM3 ?

It´s done, I ordered and paid the 600mm F4.0 IS II USM...and I got it at the same Price as a the 500 mm model..(!!!) I think the dealer mixed up the pricing..but I paid and ordered and he couldnt escape...good for me :)..bad for him... :-[.

Thanks Neuro..I will go for the 600mm !

yes, MkII lenses for 5DMIII, 500 mm is certainly also an option....and there is no mayor price difference between 400 and 500 mm incl adapters etc etc...

I already have a 70-200 F 2.8 MkII and a 100-400 mm MkI for that reason II thought a 600 mm would fit better than the 400 which I have covered already

I have to take a touch decision very soon  ;D...  Buying the excelent 400 F 2.8 and use it with an extender III or buying the 600 F 4.0..  price difference is only aprox 1500 usd..exclusively for wildlife/bird photography handhold basically...what would your recommed ?

Yes, I had this issue several times and I use a canon battery grip. The top wheel freezes and with nothing you can restart it.  But as soon as I move the wheel on the battery grip the top wheel starts working again.  Happened 3-4 times already. Next time it does I will send it to Canon fo service

The 100-400 is great for Antarctica for wildlive where you cant get too close like leopard seals, penguins and birds. Extender might be usefull but take into account that you are on a boat and a tripod/monopod does not work well due to engine vibrations, so everything is handhold basically. An albatross fly-by is easier handhold...but you might carry also some wide angle lens with you for landscapes which are simply beautiful. Polarizer and lots of memory cards (I took in 7 weeks 6000 shots) to store and backup your images..laptop en external harddrive is not a bad idea.

I used now for more than 3 years with my 50d and it works very well. Buttons are very precise and does not inhibit function and the body is as good as new
