Why not? How was the 1DC more meant for it?
If anything a high DR landscape/wildlife cam matches more to 4k than an ultra-speed brick action/sports body.

Only if their is a tech reason can you say it was not meant for it (maybe there was, maybe not, you certainly can't likely expect a full sensor read from the 50MP cam for video, but a on chip bin mode like 5D3 seems like it could have worked, although I can't know for sure, perhaps not as maybe it is a Sony chip and Sony didn't make with binned 4k and Canon wanted a high DR camera and couldn't make one themselves and there you have it high DR amazing stills but no 4k??).
the A7II has no 4K . heck even the A7S has no internal 4K.
the A7R has no 4K.
the D750, D810, D4s, D610 has no 4k.

And you hit the nail to my point. The a7r and a7s released at the same price. One did high res, one did superb video at 4k (lack of internal recording was a physical design constraint..but it CAN do it). So here comes Canon. We have a high res 5 body and (perhaps) a 4k body in a subsequent 5D4 that is ALSO a fantastic all around camera that CAN record internally 4k... If both are $4k then that is the same price as an a7s plus Shogun.
Because of the 40/2.8 I have decided to not get the 35/1.4 II anymore.

I find the articulating screen on the 60D very usefull and at one point I would have argued that any sucessor to the 7D should have one. My 60D has seen rugged use and no problems with the articulated screen and once you get used to it it is hard to imagine a camera without it.....
That said, times change and technology marches on. Wifi makes a smart phone into a WAY better articulated screen.... Look at the GoPro cameras.... you can do anything on your phone that you can do on the camera. How long will it be before smart phones or tablets become the ultimate remote control for high end DSLR's... the technology is already in use on lower end cameras.... it is tested and it works.
Now I would like to see a 7DII with Wifi.. this is tethered shooting without the tether... Set the camera up near a nest, and from a reasonable distance you can take those baby bird pictures.... put the camera on a telescope and not have to lie in the snow to see what's happening... and studio shooting with quick access to just about every setting....
If I can do this on a $400 camera, which also shoots 4K video, (take that 1D-C), it can be done on a $2000+ camera.
If canon puts a 21-22 MP APS-H sensor with 8-10 fps on the new 7D2 .. i will buy one regardless of the price...

Hi, I have a 5D Mark II and a 580EX II that i've always used on TTL with a cord. Now I am wondering if it's possible to mount a 430EX II on the hotshoe and have my 580 triggered through the PC all at the same time, while conserving TTL on my 430?

35/2.0 is in need of a successor, but like the current one it should really have been a low-cost, decent IQ lens, rather than unnecessary IS at the price of an L lens. A modern 50/1.4 Mk. II with IQ at least equivalent to the Nikon AF-S 50/1.4 at the same price would have been far more urgent.24-70 is a total mess. Ridiculous that the 2.8 did not come with IS on top of the excellent IQ.+1
Instead of the 14-70/4 Canon should have improved the 24-105 and extended it to 24-120/4.0 IS - with better IQ than Nikon but at the same price.
I agree on both. Canon is missing the obvious.
I beg to differ, Canon is following the money -> HD video DSLR + Lens sales. Just wait and see, the 6D will easily outsell the 1DX + 5D3 combined (obviously cheaper camera aimed at the masses), but Canon have done their homework on this, travel photographers like to shoot full-HD video to show to the folks back home, as well as taking stills. Moms + Dads love to shoot HD video of their kids playing sports etc. as well as taking photos, which explains why Canon have included similar AF-tracking in the 6D as the new 5D3. How many CR contributors justify expensive kit on the grounds that they can shoot their kids as well? (Just look at how many 50 1.2L shots are of Photogs progeny)
Canon has pandered too long to the specialist stills photographers, how about the hundreds of thousands of Amateur & Indie videographers who purchased the 5D mk II and made it the success story that it is, plus the millions of buyers who continue to flock to Rebel T2i/T3i/T4i and so on, so they can shoot 1080p @ 24 frames per second and post their cinematic style offerings on YouTube or Vimeo.
Canon is finally moving in the right direction - Video. Let Nikon slash prices and lose profits on high-MP DSLR bodies that have always lagged Canon in the video stakes (remember the Nikon D300s with 720p video vs Canon 7D with 1080p, then the Nikon D7000 had 1080p movie recording but no dedicated Movie button like the 7D). Canon is not just following video/still photography trends, they're shaping them.

Don't be shy about Sigma.... I have the 50mm 1.4 and the thing takes fabulous pictures. They are sharp, and the bokeh is super creamy! Additionally, it's built like a tank and has a very professional look and feel. I would highly recommend this lens, especially if you have a camera with AFMA(for obvious reasons.)Do remember that Canon is not your only lens option. .... To me it's a no-brainer but then, I don't feel wedded to Canon lenses.
AdamJ, you make a good point. Like I said, the competition - esp for lenses, is loving it.
With their recently announced strategy, Sigma is undergoing a sea-change from a price-driven proposition to a quality-driven proposition. I believe this is at least partly a response to the gap in the market that Canon's pricing is opening up. Sigma can develop premium products now because they know they can pitch them at the premium-but-not-inflated price level that Canon has vacated.
This is a very interesting observation Adam. Canon is creating a price gap vacuum that will encourage a higher quality alternative to fill it at a previously acceptable price point (but probably still slightly less). And if the alternative is good and receives rave reviews, it will succeed. The fickle enthusiasts will flock in droves. Hell, I might even be one of them. If I can have a quality lens for half the price of the Canon L, I can afford to even replace it if I wear it out and still come out ahead. Time will tell!!
Guess I'll have to wait and see the MTF and reviews on this one. The hybrid IS is nice, as is the near 1:1 macro, but for $1500 it'll have to improve both resolution and distortion over the 24-105 to sell well.
Or the 24-105 will soon cease to appear on price lists and will be withdrawn from the market place.
