Are you shooting head and shoulders, full length or a family group. Is the flash at 4ft or 15ft are you using a straight reflector, off a brolly , though a brolly or in a soft box.
All factors will make a difference

Lenses / Re: Thoughts on Canon 20mm f/2.8?
« on: March 21, 2013, 12:20:08 PM »
Its a very good lens but it does have a curved plane of focus , no good for a straight pic of a brick wall wide open. but it is very sharp wide open, with the slight curved plane of focus you get the mid-distance that you have focused on sharp and the near foreground, the last reply suggested the 16-35mm  but in comparesent it is huge.
Do read this from Ken Rockwell http://kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/20mm.htm

So much for todays digital cameras, I did a lot of church interiors with a Bronica and regularly used f32

5D MK III Sample Images / Strange colour cast with 5D3
« on: May 03, 2012, 02:35:12 PM »
I took these pic in a hall with strip lighting and when I used the silent shutter mode I got a magenta cast and a green cast on the pic. one pic it was magenta at the top and green at the bottom in the next pic this was reversed then the next pix it reversed again. 250sec F2.8 1000 ISO auto colour balance. Did not notice till today so have not had time to try it again.

I did my first Wedding in the mid 1960s then up till the early 2000 and like all photographers of that time we used a medium format camera. Bronica , Hasselblad, Rollie with just one lens a standard 75mm f2.8 and 8 rolls of 120 film 12 exposures.
Why do todays wedding photographers have to carry 5 lenses and take 2000 pictures, how many of those pictures get into the Brides album, how many hours are spent at the computer sorting them all out. We perfected our technique with leaf shutters and shooting with both eyes open every shot was perfect no shut eye pictures of the bride.
Use a standard lens and perhaps a wide for a group inside, Have two bodies the same and two flash guns, spare batterys. Concentrate on the posing of the people not on how many lenses you can use, be able to adjust your camera and flash with out looking at them so you can do it in the dark if need be.

Lenses / Re: 16-35 2.8ii vs 17-40 for filters and corner sharpness?
« on: March 13, 2012, 09:47:06 AM »
I have used a 17-40 on a 5D and 5d11 since it came out and yes there is a bit of softness in the corners but DXO or Light room will automatically correct dark corners. As for filters I always use Lee filter for landscapes no problems. I always print 12x16 format so you loose the soft corners. If you want better go for the 17mm TSE with lee filters.
