EOS Bodies / Re: Bye Canon?
« on: April 23, 2013, 05:21:55 PM »
I'm just frustated and i want canon to know!
I mean i love the 60d, but no real video af. I want a seald dslr
with a big viewfinder -and a good video af. Maybe even a gps since i do make most of my photos outdoor on many different locations...again, frustrated.

OK yes having a well sealed body is important to me and yes canon ticks me off not sealing expensive equipment as well as they could. GPS would be nice.... Sadly I bet only reason its left out is so they can sell us a GPS module. Bigger brighter view is always better!

Video AF? :-)  I'll sacrifice video to get any or all of the above!!

That being said all in all Canon fits my needs better than anybody else.

Did that make you feel better?

My primary income is from investments. I really have no personal feelings when it comes to taking a loss on something. It's business.

Lol
Lol
 ;)

Then you should understand that when it comes to electronics such as digital cameras are not investments and that if you were a business owning them then you would be writing off a sizeable fraction of the capital cost each year due to this.

On the other hand, if you actually thought that digital cameras were worthy of being an investment and you do investments for other people as a profession then I'm hella glad that I'm not your client and have pity on those that are!

I don't understand why ppl get upset about firmware updates - generally I think they are a good thing. As fa as the shutter going out. Well that would suck but it is warrantied.

Can't really argue withe you about the lenses. Love my 40mm though its a great little thing & a good value.

Yep engineering the lens cap after all this time must have shaken canon to its core. Am I joking? I'm not sure :-)

I couldn't afford a 7 D when it 1st was released & am not sure if I will be able to swing a new version. I do say its odd that it hasn't popped up yet & I can understand why so many people are impatient to see its release. It is an important camera for a large market.

If canon doesn't release a nice replacement in the next 6 months I'd say its time to worry.

My concern is the rate at which the local photo community is switching to Nikon. With profitability already down Canon is yielding significant market share to innovative and high quality Nikon products and that means less money, also for R&D, resulting in less capable kit, resulting in less sales, resulting in less money…..

Yes right, as the majority of Canon users have fullframe cameras and lots of L lenses...

Ur probably in the top <5% of users with ur gear. 5 Bodies and 16 L lenses u say?

...

Sorry its crying on a VERY high level.

Im running around with mostly old manual focus m42 lenses on my (guess in ur view) "lousy aps-c 1100d eos" cuz i just cant afford anything better. For me it wasnt cheap tough still.  If you so unhappy with ur announced-dead canon gear i surely take some of it for free. I think my whole apartement interior isnt even worth enough to buy _one_ L lens.
And anyway if ur that wealthy why dont u just get a Nikon body with a tele lens so u can use it on ur safaris? For the rest u can perhaps keep your down-the-graveyard-spiral canon gear.

sorry im a bit angry and feel so poor now T_T

I feel your pain. Especially when it sounds like a weekend warrior with tens of thousands of dollar in toys.

ah
1st off , people jump to fast. We know canon & nikon leap frog or as least pace each other. For a pro an edge in a given year might be crucial but not so much for the rest of us.
2nd what's up with having an issue with firmware / updates? That seem like a non issue to me, i like updates.
Canon does have their head stuck in the sand in some irritating ways like caps & hoods but its getting better.

EOS Bodies / Re: The Mirrorless Future

Not actually disagreeing with you per say butif the evf was a detachable unit (like the flash or GPS) then the working lifespan would not be as crippling and perhaps aftermarket units will be around though admittedly this is all just supposition (or is it postulation).
I imagine consumer grade cameras especially cameras like G-12, X-1 (or was it 1-X  ???) would really benefit by having a cutting edge  E.V.F. especially if it is a module that's added on. Just having a high quality EVF might be enough to really spur on sales of these range finder type cameras. Perhaps the tech will then trickle over to the rebels eventually.  As far as the tech goes developing the EVF should be fairly straight forward because the bodies already support the screens & have huge processing power.
The rebels don't really have the greatest vf  as it is right now so who knows perhaps eventually they will get it.

Allot can happen - change in 5-10 years & I can't see Canon & Nikon Mega pixel war lasting forever  ::) (well I hope not) so they will have to wow consumers in other way(s).

I welcome the day when E.V.F. equals then surpasses our mirrors & prisms. There are some huge advantages to e.v.f. .  We are getting closer but not quite there yet.  When it equals & surpasses what we have presently - great & good but until then no thank you.

Better yet just let me wi-fi stream everything to my contact lens overlays and I'll be as happy as a pig in §π¡±.  8)

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 6D Announcement Soon? [CR1]
« on: September 09, 2012, 02:45:09 PM »
That's why I don't really anitcipate an announcement for this soon.  I'm not saying never, but I just feel like it won't be all that soon.  It'd be more likely that the 7D's replacement would come sooner than an entry level FF.  The 5D Mark II, contrary to what people will tell you, when it was released in 2008, it was not considered entry level.

I concur. The 7D fills an important slot in canons line up.
Its a great tool for consumers & pros alike and has  given the rebel line  trickle down tech for several years  but after the 60D & the t4i there is a real need for a new 7D(?). Heck don't fix what ain't broke just update the sucker. Improve & update the sensor, improve ISO and put in the new processors which should help with a lot of functions.

Some joker on another site was going on about the 7D being a fail for canon. I think its the opposite - it has given canon a lot of momentum but is starting to lag now. It needs a spruce up - please no bells or whistles though.

Lenses / Re: EF 40mm STM Pancake Problem Acknowledged

I fairly certain its a glitch in the programing/ firmware in the lens though updating body firmware  apparently is a workaround for this early batch.

On a related note its a shame the hood connects to the barrel as it does. Mounted differently it would protect vs aggravating the problem. I normally use a hood but on the 40 I'm leaning towards not using it and no I didn't  buy Canons  :P over priced little plastic ring, I'm using a Leica one. :D

Well heck.
I guess I had that happen on my 60D.

I was fiddling around a bit absent minded & the lens moved inward with a fairly light pressure made by my finger. I saw it move about 1/8 inch  :o (oops) & thought that didn't seem right.

I had to pop the battery out & back in to get functionality back in the lens ( didn't try re seating the lens ). It seems it just froze up causing no damage  :) . Definitely sensitive, glad their doing a fix because it could be a pain in the butt ox if it happened often.
If you push the end of the lens barrel to put on the cap, or whatever, it will telescope in, some may take more perssure, but all of them move.
What should noot happen is for the camera to lockup when it senses a lens movement.
Yep if  you put a cap on with a little to much force it could  happen, although it hasn't locked up on me since that first time.  I  am pretty good at not interfering with AF or stripping gears in general but since its so nice to leave that lens on in a tight bag ready for a quick draw I suppose it could freeze up randomly in those circumstances.

As long as its not a hardware  issue, it will be  - should be relatively a simple firmware fix.
