Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 DC?
« on: April 18, 2013, 01:11:42 AM »
Sigma have confirmed that the lens is real, it looks fantastic. If only I still had my 7D

Lenses / Re: A 4000$ budget for Lenses on 5D3... need suggestions
« on: April 15, 2013, 08:51:12 PM »
no one. not a single person (unless I missed it) has mentioned the 24-105mm f/4L lens

are we all forgetting how great this lens is or are we all blinded by the new mark II 24-70 f/2.8 :P

just the fact that the 24-105mm is so affordable now makes it even more attractive and we can't deny that zoom range is extremely helpful and versatile.

with $4,000 to play with you could pick up some fantastic lenses, no need to gun for the brand new $2,000+ lenses

16-35mm f/2.8L II
24-105mm f/4L (or maybe the new 24-70mm f/4 IS USM)
70-200mm f/4L (non IS version)

and I would also consider the 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 lenses by Sigma - they are incredibly good for much less than the Canon versions

and you may end up with money to spare. like I said - no need to gun for the new $2,000+ lenses

Reviews / Re: Why I Chose a Canon EOS 6D over a 5D MKIII
« on: February 18, 2013, 03:21:24 PM »
The only reason I don't have a 6D right now is because of it's size and weight. Comfort is a big thing for me when shooting and the overall feel of the 6D just doesn't do it for me. Loved your review, though! and some great images. Thanks for sharing! =)

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5d2 officially discontinued.
« on: December 23, 2012, 06:54:39 PM »
The used market is absolutely swamped with quality used 5D2's

I would happily buy another or even 2 since it's easy to find them for less than £1,000 and even £900 but that money is saved for new glass!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Using 1DX in very low temperatures

I've used a 7D in similar temperatures in Iceland and never had any problems - just make sure you have an extra battery - or two! =D

"New Ergonomic Design"

the 7D was pretty damn perfect (pretty sure that's why the 5D mark III is clearly modelled on it) - shouldn't try to fix something that isn't broken.

I'm not sure about the increase in MP - sure it'll have an all new sensor but still - 18mp would be just fine on an upgraded sensor, no need to up it.

I would happily suggest the Sigma 85mm f/1.4

very useful comparison here with the Canon 85mm f/1.2 -

Dooo love the ef-s 10-22mm, Such a lovely lens to use. sadly had to sell it after upgrading to 5DII and the 16-35L is out of my price range. Still missing that wide focal range :'(

According to what I've read before the 5D is pretty notorious with dusty sensors. As verysimplejason says above you'll get very little improvement and the camera doesn't have Live View (which isn't always essential but it's very, very handy). It also has an unreliable rear LCD with regards to producing accurate colours when reviewing your photos.

Personally, being a 5D mark II user, I would absolutely recommend you spend the extra cash on upgrading to the mark II - it's better to do that than buy a 5D mark I hoping to save for the 70-200 and then realise in a few weeks or a month that it's really not an upgrade at all.

If you shoot mainly portraits you should sell the 50mm f/1.4 for a few extra $$$ (I find 50mm not to be a useful portrait lens due to the distortion) to help towards the 70-200mm. I also suggest going for the cheaper NON IS version or even the f/4 NON IS version, the f/4 is a remarkable lens and and still sharp as hell and at around $600 you can't really argue with that! but to be absolutely honest with you the 100mm macro (f/2.8L ?) that you have is probably your best portrait lens - no need to go out and get a 70-200mm right away. Just get those legs working and move around a bit ;D haha

Definitely go for the 5D mark II, you won't regret it :)

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D MKII Used?
« on: October 02, 2012, 11:10:25 AM »
sounds like a good price to me, especially since it's been so well used. I just bought a used mark II with less than 800 actuations (it's basically new) and paid £1,050 (about $1695), I couldn't throw my money at the guy fast enough

I have another idea - apart from it being a typo.

It could be "Canon EOS ID" as in Identity

it could be a default name for the camera inside the app - like how iPhones and iPods have default names in iTunes that you can change to suit your quirky nature ;)

so yes, I vote that "Canon EOS ID" is a customizable name that you can give to your camera inside the phone app.

It could of course just be a typo?

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II Arrived
« on: September 14, 2012, 11:57:34 AM »
I don't understand why some of you even give a $4!t about what the hood "looks" like.

It's just the hood, people!  ;) ;D

Not just a hood, the Mark I lens hood provided protection to the barrel when extended, from rain and dust etc

when the mark II lens is extended that barrel is exposed to the weather

I Really hope its a newer sensor than the 5D II.

Nothing wrong with that sensor
