On my 5d3 with 580ex2 I always set my camera to av, no exposure comp, and then on the flash I set it to entitle with exposure compensation set between +1 and +2, just fix your ISP setting, I usually set mine between 400 and 800 depending on how much ambient light I want, should work just fine

EOS Bodies / Re: Download Firmware 1.2.1 link for 5DIII

Has anyone had any issues witht he new firmware, I have a wedding this saturday so I want to make sure I dont run into any issues as it works just fine right now, but the flash AF speed would be nice, also anyone tried the update firmware with the pocket wizards TT5's? as that would be another major concern. - thanks

Lenses / Lens Rebates Ending March 31st, 2012
« on: March 25, 2012, 01:02:35 PM »
Anyone know if they will actually end at the end of this month? I just purchased the 5dIII & 70-200L IS II, so funds are low, but I really am looking at the 85mm L II as well as prices are lower, Im debating buying this new now with rebates or even used as they are lower as well right now, any suggestions on what you see happening and if in fact this is the best time to buy? Wedding season is coming up so I would like to have it within the next 3 months.

lol, agreed, anyways anyone have any information pertaining to the silent shutter mode?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Questions - 5D Mark III Silent Shutter Mode
« on: March 23, 2012, 02:36:27 PM »
I just got my 5D Mark III last night, and I absolutely love the silent shutter mode for wedding/event photography, anyone have any idea if it will reduce the 150,000 shutter actuation mark, as in is it harder on the mechanism in the long run? or would I be perfectly fine using it for the next 4-5 years on silent mode alone?

EOS Bodies / Projections on Lightroom 4 Support for 5D III - Timeline
« on: March 22, 2012, 05:10:52 PM »
Anyone have any projections on typically how long after a release of a camera, especially one as large as the 5D Mark III will see an update to Lightroom 4 in support of it?

EOS Bodies / Re: 5DIII - Color Reproduction

I am very curious to see these results, in the jpegs I have seen, not looking at DR or Clarity, I have seen very pleasing skin tones in the examples I have seen so far, which have made me personally very happy for my uses.

I have been following the Dynamic Range thread and I what I felt was an even more important factor for me and my purposes were color reproduction, specifically on skin tones. It was my 2nd biggest factor when looking at the 5D Mark III behind AF, any inputs on the color reproduction and rendition? Is this big for anyone else?

Software & Accessories / Re: 5D Mark III - Sandisk or Lexar CF Cards

You think its worth getting the 90mbs over the 60mbs for the new 5d3? Im getting 64gb so its a pretty big price difference for someone who just purchased a 5d3, 70-200L IS II, and lightroom all in one month

Canon EF Prime Lenses / Re: Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM

I am thinking of purchasing this, Question is though,

How bad is the Purple Fringing?

I currently have the the 85mm 1.8, along with 50L, 135L, 100L, 70-200L IS II. Thinking of upgrading but my 85mm has purple fringing in high contrast situations and almost ruins pictures and I have heard the same if not worse on this one, I love the pictures it produces, and I know high contrast is rare, but I had it ruin a set of pictures at my last wedding not being aware of it. How bad is it, and is it worth it? (my lenses are used for 2 shooter's, myself and my 2nd shooter, which is why I just dont always use the 70-200)

Software & Accessories / 5D Mark III - Sandisk or Lexar CF Cards
« on: March 07, 2012, 09:41:25 PM »
Im wondering what your opinions are regarding Sandisk and Lexar, I am looking at the 90mbs CF offering's from both company's, I currently have 2 Sandisk 32gm 60mbs cards, but im going to be needing either another two 32gbs cards or one 64gb card. The Lexar being about $100 cheaper, wondering if its quality is the same or if I should just stick with Sandisk. Also will the 60mbs be more than enough for the 5dIII, shooting wedding's (photography) and video (for fun) primarily. Appreciate the comments.

Lenses / Re: Canon 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS for motorsports ??????????

I haven't been in those situations with my 70-300L but I have to say the AF speed is extremely fast, and has no problems for me tracking birds in flight. i would say you will have no problem whatsoever with it's AF speed in those environments.

Lenses / Help Me Choose The Best Lens

I have been a long time reader, but haven't really posted much, but I am in a situation where I would love the feedback of you guys who have a lot more knowledge than I do on particular lenses.

I currently shoot senior portraits and wedding's. my current lineup consists of a 5d Mark 2, 50L, 85 1.8, 135L, 100L IS Macro, and 70-300L.   My plan is to sell the 70-300L, I love the lens, but it doesn't fit my purposes much, and I am a fan of the narrow DOF & Natural Light. So my plan is to purchase one of two lenses.

Canon 70-200L 2.8 IS II

Canon 85mm 1.2 II

I am wondering what you guys see as the bigger priority. A large part of me says the 70-200 for the versatility and fitting in an area I will be leaving with the loss of the 70-300. The other part is fixed on primes, I love them, I know some will say I need a wide prime then, but my 50 I find very versatile. I love the color on the images ive seen with the 85L and im wondering what you would think would be the best option. I understand I have the 85 1.8 already, but I really want the highest quality possible. I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks in advance.
