Lenses / Re: AF Trouble on my 70-200L ... HELP!
« on: October 28, 2012, 01:48:20 PM »

Yeah, it's tricky.
November and December are really busy and renting is expensive.

Thanks for the advice.  I'm going to call the Canon-Approved repair shop in the morning to see what they think.
A shame there isn't some quick fix.  :D

Lenses / AF Trouble on my 70-200L ... HELP!
« on: October 28, 2012, 01:30:34 PM »
Hi everyone,

I had an engagement shoot today and near the end of it my 70-200 2.8 IS starting having AF trouble.
The closer to INFINITY I would try to focus the more It would struggle.
I couldn't even manual focus to that far.

Then When I got home later it was working fine.
But now it's having the issue again.

Camera repair shops are closed today, so I thought I'd see if anybody has any insight into this issue.
Thanks so much!

OH, and here are a couple from the shoot for those interested.

"Unfortunately, Canon was probably placed in the worst lit area on the show floor, no art or great photos could be made with the new lenses, though I tried."

Which is why the 24 - 105mm IS L will continue to be the better lens when light levels are low with sharp images being possible as low as 1/6th sec.

I've never yet heard any client say images would be better if a sharper lens than the 24 - 105mm was used, so what's the point in a lens which weighs twice as much costs three times as much and has a reduced zoom range, and can't take decent photos when the light drops away?

Want a blurred background?  Then use a prime!  2.8 is only just wide enough anyway.

The 24-105 IS L  is an f4 lens
Who wants to deal with that in low light situations with moving subjects?
Get ready to crank up the ISO :\

Why is ISO3200 so noisy in that second shot?
I thought you were shooting with a 5DIII

This is GREAT.
I have the 5D II and I really would like better AF but I don't care at all about higher MP.

As somebody mentioned, better Dynamic Range would be nice.
Prettier noise would be nice.
And better color production.  I still feel like the XTi did better with flesh tones than the 5DII.

I have only ever owned Canon gear.
But I echo the poster that said Canon is lost.

This is a worthless update.
The only worthwhile upgrade is the form factor, but nobody with a current 24-70L would even consider burning over a thousand dollars to update.

They should have added 5mm on the top end while maintaining the 2.8 and the IQ.
Or they should have added IS.
Or they should have found a way to make it an f2 lens

SOMETHING new and noticeably upgraded.
I will be waiting to hear about the Tamron 24-70.

Very excited to see how this lens performs on a Full Frame camera.
I have the 28-75.  While it looks amazing on a crop, there's a ton of distortion and blurriness around the edges on a full frame.

Still waiting for somebody to make a 24-75.

It's obviously a personal preference I'm stating.
I'd own the 24-105 if it was faster.  I'm just not in the presence of good light often enough to deal with a lens like that.

I just wish there was a 24-75 2.8
Pool your scientists and make it happen!

My Tamron is 28-75
My Canon is 24-70

The 24-105 sucks because F4 sucks.

I'm expecting great high iso performance
Beyond that, when noise does show up I suspect it will be very film-like noise
One area where I wish Canon would improve

One thing is for certain...
It will have nicer looking noise than the 1D-X

Japanese companies have been really complacent in recent years.  Canon and Nintendo are the worst offenders, I think.

I STILL LOVE MY 5DII, THOUGH!

I really wish Canon would ad 5mm to the top end of the 24-70.
It just doesn't have enough reach on a full frame body.

I use the Tamron 28-75 and wish they would make a 24-75 as well.

OH WELL!
