EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 1D X Product Advisory

Just curious how Canon compensate his customer's time and effort in bringing the camera to their customer service centre for inspect and repair, which the issue is on their fault.
And the camera need to be stayed there for more than a day, which I need to spend another day and effort to collect the camera back? And the outcome is I may get more problem after the service....

What if I only take the camera back when I start getting AF problem? Do I need to prove it's due to not enough lubricant and if I will get a charge of boom for the AF replacement?

to bring or not to bring is a question.

I sent Canon Singapore an email and I have got a call today. I was asked to bring the camera back for "FIRMWARE updated". I have never seen a firmware update statement in US Canon advisory. So I really worry what will they do on the camera. So, I will wait ....

High Megapixels for Landscape and Studio? That's 1DS Grade. I bet this should be sold for 10k+

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon EOS-1D X AF at f/8 with the Kenko 1.4TC
« on: September 04, 2012, 11:58:21 PM »
This sounds the f/8 AF can be enabled by a firmware release.
Just curious what's the reason that Canon not to enable that originally?
To clear the stock for 1D Mark IV before 1DX in stock?
If the AF works well on 3rd party teleconverter, there should be an easy workaround code for a firmware fix.
If canon can send me the firmware code then I can advise the changes for them :D

Just updated the firmware. The Err80 issue is gone. The AF at Extreme low light works better than before. Will test the Micro Adjustment later this weekend if that works.

The drop of f/8 support in 1DX make me hesistate to go with Canon F/4 super tele lenses.
Any comparison done on 400 F2.8 IS II with 600 F4 IS II?
It will be interesting to compare the image quality, AF speed & accuracy, handling for

400 F2.8 IS II with 1.4x TC vs 600 F4 IS II
400 F2.8 IS II with 2x TC vs 600 F4 IS II with 1.4x TC

600 F4 IS II with 2x TC (taped) with 1DX

Not sure how true is this. I think I was the first one exchange the unit so I didn't receive the call from the same shop.

Latest info I have just received: Apparently, Canon SG may have been aware of this issue. Cathay Photo told me that there was a recall of all their 1st batch of 1DX due to an issue he wasn't able to advise (too technical for him probably). They have since asked all their customers who bought the first batch to send down for an exchange. They are currently selling the 2nd batch where so far, no problems reported yet.

The issue may only affect the first batch of 1DX. Seems Canon knew the issue. I got my replacement and it's working well so far.

I've encountered the Err80 issue as well.

The issue can be replicated easily on my camera with the following ways:
1. Taking photo without lens cap.
2. Put the lens cap on.
3. Choose different AF Area (AF -> M-Fn or AF -> Main Dial)
4. Press the Shutter button (for few times. camera hunt for focus with lens cap on)
5. Take out the lens cap and press the shutter button
6. Err 80 message or repeat step 2 to 5 then you should see Err 80.

I have so far tried two lens (85L, 35L) and saw the same issue.

However, Just right before posting this, I clear the camera setting and it seems I can't replicate the issue now.

It's "mid June".

Lenses / Re: Still need a fast lens?

Professionals goes to fast lens are usually for the DOF and the Faster AF at low light, not just purely for faster shutter speed.
