PowerShot Cameras / Re: Canon to Target The GH4 With New DSLR Type? [CR2]
« on: December 15, 2014, 09:44:27 AM »
Canon has done its best over some years for now to convince everybody that wait no big surprises.
Yeah, shines at something, yet lacks at the same time putting the end product in the middle of other offerings rather than on top.

See what has happened to once famous brand name. No one-product will make this up what took years to build and abandon.

My understanding is they give more love to those who are not afraid to mess up and try to challenge the marketplace. Long time ago even Canon was on their hot list with the 1Ds.

I always find it interesting that LuLa falls in love with each new camera model.  They are true Hardware Geeks.

Their review of the new Pentax MF camera has me wanting one :)

Even though I don't always agree with Jrista I consider accusing him of being a troll an insult. Very uncalled for.  He is going to extremes to substantiate his arguments with knowledge and facts.

It is only fanboys who have a problem with this and to hear repeatedly, that Canon's sensors are not nearly as good as they could and should be. It hurts their ears and their egos. That's why they call it DRoning.

As Canon manufacturers the SLR sensors solely for its own cameras the economies of scale are at play, compared to Sony who is catering a bigger market thus with more R&D opportunities. The next rumoured breakthrough in the Sony land is the global shutter ( http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr2-new-sony-12-megapixel-fulll-frame-global-shutter-sensor-specs ). I've got impression that Canon users are generally happy with their systems. I do wonder though about the next generation Canon sensor technology, will it improve in every front (apparently not much rumours) or will it cater  "majority" via concentrating on specific features, more feasible to implement (ROI)?

Canon THEMSELVES actually never said the 1Ds and 1D lines were merged into the 1Dx.  Read Bryan Carnathan's site.  He doesn't even know.

" the Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR camera.* As the new leader in Canon's arsenal of professional DSLRs, the EOS-1D X will be a high-speed multimedia juggernaut replacing both the EOS-1Ds Mark III and EOS-1D Mark IV models in Canon's lineup. "

I'm sorry, where does it say the two lines are merged?

Well the thing is he didn't know the direction of Canon developments.

How would that even had been possible to know?

After all, it is for sure at some point "even" Canon extends DR - and that is not because of "whiners" but because it is part of sensor IQ. Would be utterly absurd to think Canon itself don't know this - they optimize the way they think it is most profitable for shareholders and they haven't been wrong this far.

I tell you what really sucks J. Someone who knew it all years ago spending $25,000 on kit that he is not happy with. I know one thing J, if I had been unhappy with a camera system for over 6 years firstly I would NOT have spent $25,000 on it secondly I would have have changed system a long time ago.

The reality of it is that Canon and Nikon both make superb cameras and lenses. Each has their strong points each has their weaknesses. And many people will have different opinions, criteria and priorities. At the point of buying you make a choice.

J - for someone who seems to like to think they know "all the technical tidbits" your posts are rather emotional rather than logical. [/font]

Canon General / Re: A Rundown of EOS 7D Mark II Information

.. The lenses are truly to die for.

Canon lenses are indeed above else (well with some minor exceptions e.g. Nikon 14-24, some Zeiss stuff).

Now as a Nikon owner I feel even primes are not that good. Lack of 1.2 aperture in the choice, 35mm 1.4 there should be much less distortion for that kind of lens. The Nikon 70-200 is breathing a lot at the long end and the locking distance is 5m rather than 2.5m etc.etc.

I still keep watching Canon's advancements though I feel there is less and less excitement going on (for me).
Nevertheless Canon seem to be doing fine and is a good choice for many.

Canon General / Re: A Rundown of EOS 7D Mark II Information
« on: August 18, 2014, 05:16:10 AM »
That's interesting and sounds plausible.

Information from Japanese Canon fan girls, who are working @Canon:

Information about the successor of the 7D and the 5DIII are under total NDA. And total means total. There is just an small circle of engeneers and managers who know all of these Cameras. Others are just working on fragments of this Cameras to avoid leaks. If anyone says, he knows details on these products, he is not telling the truth.
In earlier times print jobs for tranportation and manuals were given to the printeries weeks before announcement. This time, there ist still just printing time reservated. No files have been sent to them (status from 08/12).

Canon is still thinking that they do not have to produce the best and most innovative products in the low and mid price segments. Sales figures show that the market analysts are right. Canon is still the best power seller on the market. And the analysts know that in future time, the market wil not grow and other brands are coming in. Sony will be very active, maybe an 5DIII and 1DX mirrorless competitor is coming in the near future.
The slow reaction on the D7100 and the still "no reaction" on the excellent D800/810 is well calculated. No need to hurry, Canon products are still sold well. There are not many persons switching to Nikon, because the majority of Canonians will not be able to spend a lot of money on new expensive lenses. The average Canon customer will be satisfied by new Canon products, even if other brands will produce superior products.

And the rumored prices of the 7D successor are just rumors. Some Canon fans in Japan think that there will be an hefty price increase on Canon products on coming products. Analysts say, that customers are willed to pay the increase. The increasing number of tests and scores, where Canon products are often just a few points /percents better than e.g. third party lenses, will prompt the average (and scores fixed) Canon fan to buy this "bettert product".
If you can see that in their pictures? I do not know.

I don't have any more the 5D2 (with similar resolution as the 5D3) but to me the image quality with crappy Nikon zoom lens in front of the D800 looks rather great at 100%  - http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=4299.msg146875#msg146875

Here's another one, hand held (well a wall is used for partial support). So much about the useless camera which can be used only on a tripod deciding by this forum:

And with a 3D feeling:

Consumers should not settle for good enough, when they can have great.
..
The idea behind ‘Bring It’ is to encourage people to strive to not only take better pictures and videos, but to take their cameras wherever they go, allowing them to tell their unique visual stories -stories that will stand out from the crowd and last a lifetime

Apparently, just great is not good enough to have the hassle what carrying/paying for the extra brings.

I'd have preferred this campaign money put into R&D instead - excellence (not just greatness) is what attracts by itself. Do it for real.

As already covered in previous threads I think there is no threat to the 1Dx.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon D4S IQ
« on: February 26, 2014, 10:24:53 AM »
It seems D4S is now a worthy competitor to 1DX.

It seems you're jumping to conclusions…

From the original article in which those comparison pictures on NR were posted: "The following pictures are all 100% crops of straight out of camera jpeg fine."

So the real conclusion is that the D4s has a better JPEG conversion engine than the D4.  BFD.  If you want to draw any conclusions about IQ, you need to compare RAW images.

Excuse me, you expect the RAWs to be worse than jpgs?

Interestingly, I've also had it suggested that if i was looking for an Epson 3880, then I might like to wait a few weeks.

This is interesting. A small footprint A2+ printer from Canon or the Epson 3880 update?

EOS Bodies / Re: Will the next xD cameras do 4k?
« on: February 18, 2014, 10:44:55 AM »
Maybe because 4K is what gets me interested in video, perhaps?

How do you like your 4K TV?  Also, what computer/UHD-monitor/software setup do you have to edit your 4K video?

Why all the attention to output, not to the process?

Are you using your digital images always without cropping, printing always at maximum size?

There are benefits for having extra.

Just to back up of having 4K capability for producing 1080p output:

4K 8bit 4:2:0 on the Panasonic GH4 converts to 1080p 10bit 4:4:4
