Underwater / Canon S100 underwater questions
« on: July 25, 2014, 07:45:20 PM »
Just ordered an underwater case for my Canon s100, it's a cheap Ebay case and I know, I know, I probably should have ordered some $400 case for a camera that itself is only worth $100.  I really just want to experiment with underwater photography and thought that this would be a good way to start.  I was thinking about lighting with a cheap underwater flashlight because an underwater flash would be to expensive, have any recommendations for flashlights.  Also what filters might I need, I believe the case takes 67mm.

Shot during sunset on a Canon 5d mkii and 200mm f/2.8 ii in front of my house.  Spent 20 minutes creeping up to this guy, and when I finally got close enough he started flying away.  Was impressed that I was able to get an in focus shot in harsh lighting with the 5d.

Canon 5d mkii, 200mm f2.8 ii

Shot at 1/650th of a second, this shot had a lot more motion blur on the bird then I wanted, though it is only really visible on the full res version

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon EF 16-35 f/4L IS Shipping This Week

I live in Montana and yesterday went in to a local camera store to check if they had the Tamron 150-600mm.  Saw the box for the 16-35mm f/4 and asked if I could see it.  Got a hands on feel of it, it had a much stiffer zoom ring than on my 17-40mm, but my lens is kind of old.  Can't believe in a small town I could have bought the lens before people could get it from B&H!  I'm going to go check how much 17-40s are going on ebay now...

Hopefully a 24 1.4 is next, canon's isn't good enough for astrophotography and I've heard to many horror stories about the samyang.

That's a bit odd, as I've heard the opposite, mostly due to there being far less coma on the Samyang than on Canon or Zeiss lenses...

The Samyang has less coma but some copies have bad decentering because they don't have the best quality control.  At about $500 it's to expensive to have to send copies back and forth.

Really hard to tell anything with the amount of jpeg compression on these photos

Theater, Concert and Event / First Concert Shoot
« on: April 20, 2014, 10:26:08 PM »
My high school had a student run electronic music concert last weekend.  My friend who was one of the musicians playing at it really wanted me to photograph it.  Brought my Canon 5d mkii, 50mm 1.8 ii, yongnuo yn560ii and a tripod.  Manually focused for a lot of the photos because autofocus couldn't lock.  Would like some feedback on my photos.

But will it come in left hand drive?

Andy, great job, I like the splashed water shots the best.

This was the only meet with the steeplechase, couldn't resist getting photos of people jumping into freezing water on a cold day!
