EOS Bodies / Re: EOS 5D Mark III Replacement Talk [CR2]
« on: January 09, 2015, 06:50:40 PM »
There seems to be an expectation or underlying current of knowing that Canon will deliver a DSLR that has a "more" of something this year however it remains to be seen if that "more" translates into a good enough IQ increase that it will distract people from Sony.

Some people posting on Internet forums do certainly seem 'distracted by Sony'.  However, that sort of thing doesn't seem to be having a big impact on people actually buying cameras.  Which group do you think matters to Canon?   ::)

It is only a matter of time before Sony turns the "distracted by Sony" into "buying Sony."

People won't be happy with themselves if they've been thinking "wow, that Sony produces the nicest pictures" and then end up buying something else.

+ This

Every time I log onto a social media I'm seeing more and more posts saying "Selling my Canon, Just got a Sony A7R/S" which does seem to have an overall impact on people who are buying cameras.

It's getting to the point where everyone I know who shoots Canon has now switched over, or seriously thinking about switching over to Sony (who apparently has more dynamic range and IQ to offer at a cheaper cost right now than Canon).. That sucks.

Now in my head, the 5D Mark IV needs to set the bar for the next 3 years or so and if that doesn't include 4K, More Dynamic Range, Faster Frame Rates.. At a cheaper price.. Then I'm just not sure how they're going to answer back to all the competition that's out there today. It kinda worries me a bit that some people aren't expecting those changes to take place.

.
Good video work, but I prefer Jeff Cable's work with the Phantom drone:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pKcDVjb2_w

He will be doing a B&H presentation next month on flying the Phantom.
There's a tough call to make.
I'm seriously a Jeff Cable fan, love his work ethic, his work and his presentations.
San Francisco is far and away my most favoritest city.
And, yup, I too like the youtube vid you've posted, I especially like the segment rising from behind trees on Angel Island to reveal the Oakland-Bay Bridge.

But I'd 100% rather be up in and shooting from a real helicopter over S.F. than shooting R.C. model footage.

I have to agree with you on that one Tolusina. Thanks

Very nice video. Great job.

Thanks for watching!

Awesome job JL!

I am, admittedly, a bit jealous. I have always wanted to go up in a chopper, especially with a 5Diii. Great job!

Cheers,
-Tabor

Thanks Tabor, it was indeed a rad experience to say the least

Whats up everyone, here's a recent video I put together while flying with @GoldenGateAir over the San Francisco Bay Area.
The whole video was shot using Magic Lantern Raw and I thought some of you might enjoy the aerial shots

Enjoy

Lenses / Re: Waiting for the 35 1.4L II

I'm a little curious on why nobody mentioned the 24mm 1.4 L ll? Because I'm pretty much in the same boat right now. Ive been waiting for the 35mm 1.4 L ll and have yet to hear some solid announcements on it.. So unless the 35mm L ll comes out soon then the 24mm L ll is looking pretty good to me right now..

hahaha

I can't say too much about the sigma's since I have no personal experience with them, but I just got my 50mm 1.2L in a few days ago (coming from a 50mm 1.8) and I'm incredibly happy with it. Probably won't come off my camera for a while!

I think the 50mm 1.8) is the coolest lens on this forum. I've done it so many times without noticing (hint: smiley)!

Shot on my 5D Mark lll with a 35mm F2 and a FlyCam.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5DIII - too grainy or not?

Well since underexposed shots are kind of my style.. I tried to take my own approach at your shot, and I hope you don't mind. This is probably the direction I would have taken it if I was in your shoes.

To be honest, I bought this portable LED light from Ephoto. I was sort of skeptical at first, since most portable LED's on low budget don't produce much light at all but this thing has come in handy!

http://www.ephotoinc.com/professional-led-light-312-led-bicolor-changing-dimmable-light-pa312.html

Its $160.. But it comes with 2 batteries, you can dim the light & also change it from a yellow tone to a white tone.
It comes with a grip handle that you can attach or it can go on the camera. This light has saved me multiple times being in the middle of nowhere an still being able to shoot very low ISOs because I had this on me. Comes in a nice bag and you can carry it anywhere or in a backpack. I definitely recommend it, and actually if you look at the topic above or below this one, I posted a video w/ my T3I using this light at night.
