EOS Bodies / Re: Ron Martinsen Blasts the 7DII in his review

This guy may not be one of the well-known experts on photography, but that just frees him up to innovate and break important new ground.

I am pretty sure, for example, he is the first one ever to discover the helpful descriptive power of the word "diarrhea" in describing image quality.

So.... Am I oversimplifying this analysis if my take away here is that because the center number of the DO lens is now higher than that of the 100-400, the DO lens has leapfrogged the 100–400 and is now a better lens?  If so, in what exactly, sharpness?

Here's a vid of that roll top pack you found. You may be able to see what fits.

Check out the Thule photo backpack.

I looked at a million of these things and all the ones that held enough looked freaky clumsy on.  Sticks out too far and/or is too wide across your back, making you look awkward.  And the few that looked cool, like hiking stuff, were only 1/2 for camera stuff, and the other half for camping junk.

The Thule:
Opens like the Lowepro Flipsides (from back).
Unique in that it is no wider across your back than necessary, so it does not look like you have a giant slouchy thing on you.  But also has a very large capacity compared to bigger-looking packs.
Thule is great at waterproof camping gear and packs, so this one is serious.
Looks great, like a hiker.
Has a fold out cover.
Doesn't scream "camera gear in here" with ether its looks or its brand name; looks like hiking stuff.
All that, yet still holds a TON.

How about a Thule pack?

This one will carry your vertical setup.  I have the larger backpack which holds a lot.  I found that due to its lightweight but rigid construction keeps the bag looking less "huge", as it does not slouch like most bags do.  Thule is all about camping gear so it is waterproof, solid, etc....

I don't know what you guys are gripping, or how hard but I don't think there's any way one can add cool looks and I really have never found the need for extra battery life either.   ;)

EOS Bodies / Re: 7D2 & 600mm f4 ii for BIF?
« on: November 26, 2014, 10:08:17 PM »
The 600mm is a $12k lens.  I suppose if you have one knocking around in your bag the difference between $1700 7d2 and a $4800 1dx is not a big deal financially.

In that comparison maybe you should compare a crop 7d2 with a 400mm 2.8 lens rather than a 600mm to equalize the focal length (mol) and to give a price factor and aperture advantage to the crop camera?  Or compare the crop with the 500mm f/4 so the crop gets a price and effective length advantage to offset the negatives of crop?

Too long (IMHO) on a crop for indoors unless you mean indoor sporting arenas or concert halls.  As you said, you already struggle with the 100mm.   135 would sometimes even be a bit long outdoors on a crop if you are shooting portraits and lifestyle stuff. If you said you want it for basketball or hockey or something that would be different.

Nah. Nope. I just checked the DXOmark ratings and they say it is no good.  The number score is not explained but the little slider bar clearly indicates it is less good than the Nikon D800.

Would like to get the Canon version but not until I see what the Sig Art version will look like/price like, and almost certainly it will get vibration control.  Would hate to see something insanely good from Sig right AFTER I dug deep for the Canon.  I love my 35 Art.

Hurry up, Sigma, %*#€!%#!!!

Ha. Zeiss should have invented this for Canon years ago so they can sell these to people to whom they sell their Rolls Royce manual fast primes.

EOS Bodies / Re: 7D Mark 2 Preorders "sound off"
« on: October 13, 2014, 06:01:43 PM »
anybody order there 7D Mark 2 kits yet and if so
when are u scheduled for your deliveries???

or do some of u rather go too any big camera stores and get them in hand rather then rely on FedEX Or UPS
slow shipping even with 1 day shipping options?

i ordered mine from a store in NJ called BEACH CAMERA on route 22 via amazon they had me promised me a oct 16th delivery via amazon's listing now it they telling me via Beach Camera its coming NOV 1-5th ugh i'm very disappointed i was hoping too get 1 earlier then others lol
but here the question i have for all of you SHOULD I WAIT FOR NOV 1-5th for my preorder or cancel my order go too B&H nyc store NOVEMBER 28th & trade in my gear and saving $$$ getting the 7D Mark 2 cheaper

basically should i wait for Beach Camera or go too B&H for better service and save $$$

If you live outside New York, order online and they ship to you, there is no sales tax. Tax on an $1,800 camera would cost you over a hundred bucks.

Apples and oranges.
I went FF to 6d to get better low light/high ISO image quality. You can't get that in any crop.
I alsoo plan to get a crop sports body like 70d or 7d2 so I can use 2 cameras at once at my kids' games.  I will say the 6D actually does a good job on the soccer shots. No complaints, actually!
