How bout portraits "enhanced" by software?

I saw this ad for Portrait Professional located about this
embedded video, I'm not sure that Portrait Professional
would do this much to Tom Brokaw

First learned the term "Uncle Bob" here, now I recognize him everywhere, including this new commercial for Cell phones.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon Refurb 400mm f/5.6L $910

how much image difference would this have versus a 70-200 2.8L IS II with a 2x converter? you'd have 140-400 f/5.6 w/IS-

I just returned my Samsung SSD. I built up a system with that as my system drive and a pair of 2 terabyte drives RAID'd for data. After the 2nd time the drive deformatted itself spontaneously, I lost faith. But it was fast when I had it.

Lenses / Re: What's the best deal you've ever gotten on a lens?
« on: March 04, 2013, 01:59:57 PM »
My son got the best deal- he was working at a rummage sale, and there were a bunch of old style TV's (not LCD) along with some old camera equipment. There was a Pentax ~50mm 1.8 lens, that went unsold, so they gave it to him.
Since it wouldn't fit our Canons, it went on EBAY and sold for $140...

Canon General / Re: Why buy from a bricks and mortar store?
« on: January 16, 2013, 12:22:16 PM »
I went to my local camera store 6 years ago, when I was looking at the 30D.
They had one there; they pulled it out of the case. But no CF card, and the battery was dead.

So, I did not feel guilty buying from BH.

How much of the MAP is the gameplaying that the retailers are forced to do for SONY and other products- ie, 'price is too low to advertise?'
this is from Amazon's listing on the 5Dmk3:

Why Don't We Show the Price?
Retailers like Amazon have the legal right to set their own prices independently, but some manufacturers place restrictions on how those prices may be communicated. Because our price on this item is lower than the manufacturer's "minimum advertised price," the manufacturer does not allow us to show you our price until you take further action, such as placing the item in your shopping cart, or in some cases, proceeding to the final checkout stage. The steps required depend on the details of the manufacturer's minimum advertised price policy. Taking these steps allows Amazon to show you our price consistent with our goal of always offering you the lowest possible prices on the widest selection of products.

This won't require you to purchase the product. You can easily remove it from your cart if you decide not to buy it.

We realize that this is an inconvenience and are regularly working to educate manufacturers on how their policies impact our customers. We welcome your comments and suggestions in our forum on this topic.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Tips on shooting hockey?
« on: October 30, 2012, 06:43:09 PM »
I've been shooting hockey for several years with a 30D, and now, most recently with a 70-200 2.8 IS II.
(which would be better with a FF, cause it's sometimes too much zoom for the 1.6 crop factor.)

Shooting thru the glass is like shooting thru a big stack of cheap filters- even if the glass is clean, it's going to
dull the image- so I try to get in the penalty box and shoot from there, but I have to duck a lot.

I'm always fighting the metering on the 30D; while the 5DmkIII should be better, the biggest problem I found was when I was shooting the home jerseys, which were navy. So, the meter would be trying to make the ice an 18% gray, or the jerseys an 18% gray; I finally gave up and went to Manual, and set the exposure that way. Also, you might consider a custom white balance- different rinks have different - but always low cost- lights, that have there own color cast.

I'm saving my pennies for the 5D, and hope to see how much better it is, but, maybe there's a couple things to try.

watch the background too- on the one of her jumping in the air, it looks like she's impaled on the fence post.

The one before it, the playground structure roof is coming out of the top of her head

« on: September 16, 2012, 02:40:46 PM »
I use SHUTTERFLY,

I've created a bunch of sites for different teams, and for the marching band;
I create an "album" of each game and "share" it. For sports teams, i have it open,
for the school band, I have a basic password. For example, Lacrosse is:

    http://solon2011lax.shutterfly.com/

I did FACEBOOK before, but found that doing it with my personal account, I got a bunch of
friend requests that I didn't want, and also found that parents were tagging their players with
the parent's name.

So, can you "focal length bracketing" for this?
