Pricewatch Deals / Re: 7D European Deal...
« on: July 30, 2014, 08:50:07 AM »
It's the same old trick of exporting goods from Hong Kong to EU via UK w/o paying EU VAT and duties bcs merchandise gets cleared in United Kingdom first where custom controls are more lazy. Then, since intra-eu circulation of goods (from UK to whatever european country) is not subject of being controlled, at end of the day, what you get is an item on which due import taxes and custom fees were not paid (custom fraud).

Infact the site says that you are still responsible for your country VAT & custom: Suivant le pays de résidence de l'acheteur, celui-ci devra se mettre en conformité avec la législation concernant les taxes (TVA et douane) auprès de l'administration fiscale/douanière locale compétente

Also the prices on the website are a real ripoff... The 7D body in HK costs around 800 USD at the moment, and yes warranty might be a problem as well

nice work. question: at which speed was the car traveling @ 00:25-00:40? and which interval between shots? It's really a smooth and nice movement

downloaded yesterday from HK site. Nice new GUI and more sliders to play with. Still it is a very rudimental software, born at least 5/7 years old. The real big plus vs lightroom and similar is optimization of canon lenses

WHen compared to ver.3 I notice a much faster loading of the high resolution image, BUT, when playing with sliders, you have to wait AT LEAST 2/3 seconds to see the effect applied to the image (5D3 RAW files). Maybe this is only a realease candidate?

I have a fast machine (win7 3930k ssd lots of memory etc.) so this thing is a bit weird. Anyone experiencing the same?

Lenses / Re: 70-200 f/2.8 IS II - Difference between 2012 and 2014?
« on: June 10, 2014, 05:10:04 AM »
as a side note recently manufactured canon EF lenses including L (at least those we import from HK/Asia/Japan) since a few months also have a different box (silvergray/black box vs. white/black box).

Canon seems to be in the process of updating packaging colors on the full EF line. Is this happening also in other parts of the world or it is just a move to differentiate the lenses depending on the destination market? (Nikon used to do the same with lenses sold in USA vs. rest of the world)

halo in pics, as other said, is generated by the light hitting the subject from behind. nothing to worry about.

In general if you are worried by lens sharpness and/or proper focus try shooting focusing charts instead of random subjects and invest in focal if you need AFMA

yes you should publish internal Canon documents not meant to be realeased in public and obtained maybe illegally so that Canon lawyers can sue your ass off, claim damages and shut down website in minutes....
LOL

No 4k? It's useless.

fuckin this... but still camouflage is a great addition.
I already have mine in pre-order @ BH

Do you think I have to sell my 1D X now before it becomes obsolete?

third is best for composition but I cannot understand the sepia toning in the upper part. Also I would have tried to recover those blacks.

the second and fourth are somewhat insignificant IMO

first is ok but the cut-off pinnacle is really really annoying

Lenses / Re: Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 or 24-70 mm II
« on: January 17, 2014, 08:23:20 AM »
I own both (canon 24-70 II & zeiss 21). I absolutely loved the zeiss until I purchased the 24-70 this summer. This is such a versatile and perfect lens that now the zeiss rarely leaves the bag. I am also under the impression  that 24mm is a better focal lenght for landscape compared to 21, which is bit too wide and requires more control/time/thinking over framing.

So if you are considering one lens only my suggestion is to go for the 24-70. You won't miss the IS at all and will be fine in most situations

something is happening with the TS-E17 and TS-E24 too. maybe some minor update as suggested. both of them have not been available from my usual hk lens suppliers already since a few weeks

Software & Accessories / Re: CarrySpeed straps vs The Rest
« on: September 02, 2013, 02:57:04 AM »
I have the sport model and it works fine. The two major annoyances are:

1. the front slide adjustment is pretty useless and bulky. Once you have decided the lenght which fits for you there is no need to change it, also because the whole regulation thing prevents you from lifting the camera above your head when you need that sky shot. Taking photos above your chest level can be frustrating

2. I see that they have changed the plate and the attaching pin is now foldable. I still have the fixed pin which is very cumbersome and sticks out all the time when you have to put the camera on a plain surface
