Lenses / Re: 24mm on a crop body?
« on: September 26, 2012, 11:24:46 PM »
I traveled USA with 24-105 and 16-35 and I found I was just using the 16-35 most of the time. And for anything indoors 24mm on a crop is not wide enough.

I think it is a poorly rendered 1 actually, which would make more sense than 4 or typo.

Canon General / Re: Canada - USA cross border warranty service
« on: September 11, 2012, 01:44:22 AM »
To my understanding is the following:

Canon bodies are only under warranty in the country you brought them in. Therefore Canon Canada is under no obligation to honor a warranty which is for USA only.

This is unlike many L lenses which have worldwide warranty with the exception of lenses from Hong Kong which only have walk in warranties now.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon 5D MK3 not as sensitive to reds?
« on: August 11, 2012, 02:06:48 PM »
It has been reported that the 5D MK III does not oversaturate the reds as badly as the 5D MK II and some of the earlier cameras.

I saturated the reds more in post and the look is closer to what I expected. This maybe contributing to my issue as well.

I think the AWB is showing an overall cooler white balance than older Canons. Open the raw file in Lightroom or another raw converter and warm up the white balance, and you'll likely see the old look that you expect.

You maybe right. I see some improvement, I am going to try this shot again where there are no street lights and see what it is like.

Yes this one was AWB. You think the lights are affecting the reds?

Picture style was standard, shot in RAW.

Here is example, all EXIF data is embedded and SOOC:

I've asked my friend for a sample image from his 650D. Just need to wait for him to send it to me. It will shot in RAW with same settings and converted to JPEG in LR 4.1 as well.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 5D MK3 not as sensitive to reds?
« on: August 10, 2012, 10:44:10 PM »
Hey All,

So I've been shooting some long exposures over the motorways in Auckland and I've found that the red trails of the cars not to be as thick as my friends 650D who shot at the same settings. I'm wondering is it my sensor?

We were shooting F11, 30s and ISO 100. Has anyone else experienced this? I might be doing something wrong, or maybe it's the lens? I used the 16-35 F2.8 II and 50 F1.2. While my mate was using the 18-135 STM on his 650D.

Lenses / No 24-70 F2.8 on sale in New Zealand
« on: July 24, 2012, 05:26:00 AM »
I cannot seem to find any stores with the 24-70 in stock. Two authorised dealers don't even have the lens listed, another has the lens listed as awaiting new model. I can't even find  second hand models for sale, this is crazy.

One of them has the 24-70 F2.8 II listed at NZD$3599 which is approx USD$2850 at the moment! That price is pretty crazy though, its more than the 70-200 F2.8 II by $100 NZD.

Do other countries have similar issues at the moment? Does this mean we can expect the new lens to start shipping?

I'd stick with Canon as I know their system already.

Canon 5D Mark III
50 F1.2L
24-70 F2.8L II
600EX-RT
Gitzo GT2531 + Manfrotto 468MGRC2

I'd would not purchase the 16-35 F2.8 II again as I don't shoot super wide all the time, but it was very useful on my crop sensor at the time. I'd start with the above then either get some studio lights or 70-200 F2.8L II.

EOS Bodies / Re: Chinese Alternative BG-E11 for 5D III not as bad
« on: May 29, 2012, 04:29:00 PM »
Does anyone know where the factory canon grips and batteries are manufactured?

-Brian

My BG-E11 says "made in Japan" on it.

The only reason I don't buy 3rd party gear is because I trust Canon more.
Also I can just send it to Canon if something goes wrong, what would I do if a 3rd party one breaks once it is out of warranty? When your getting paid to shoot, you need some assurance and certainty that you can get your gear fixed/replace in a timely manner.

I just got mine today, feels very good to hold.

but I don't understand what the bag is for? It's too small for the grip so I assume it is to hold the battery tray.
