Lenses / Edge Distortions: 24-70 f/2.8 II
« on: June 20, 2014, 05:35:56 PM »
For owners or users of the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 II, do you see any distortions on the edges (with people photographed near the edges) when used at 24mm?  Your feed backs are most appreciated!

Thanks!

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon USA Rebates End March 29, 2014
« on: March 28, 2014, 04:57:52 PM »
Given the lack of discount on the 85mm f/1.2L, looks like I will be waiting until this winter to pick one up...

Yea why is that?  I rarely see any good deal (deeper discounts) s on the 85 1.2.

Thanks for all your replies!

You miss out on the group buy from CPW for the 85L for $1699 shipped. No hassle sending any rebate

Yea, I'm registered w/CPW & received the notice on the Group Buy, but I wasn't familiar with this...how it works and more importantly, if the products were used/open, etc. so I didn't rush into it.

Lenses / Canon Lens Rebates...
« on: March 15, 2014, 02:05:33 PM »
I'm looking to purchase a 85 1.2 at a good price.  I know currently Canon has a $150 rebate, but listed price from B&H is $2,200.  Still pricey after rebate.

Does anyone know (or unscientifically) track how often/when Canon offers their rebates during the year?

Thanks!

Lenses / Re: what lens's to bring to Hawaii?
« on: February 25, 2014, 08:45:07 AM »
I just came back from Hawaii.  We spent 3 days in Oahu & 8 on the Big Island.  I would definitely bring the 17-40 for scenic/landscape & 50 1.4 for better lighting when the sun is down or indoors w/family.  Plus, you don't want to just have one lens if something should happen to the 17-40.

I only used my 70-200 f/2.8 IS II like 5% of the time.  If you don't mind having all that weight on you (& you'll be walking a lot, depeding on your itinerary (on the B.I. we were mainly in Hilo--Mauna Kea, Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls; Valcano; & Kona), by all means bring it.  But if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't have, especially if you are going in the summer & walking a lot.

The 17-40 & 50 1.4 would be a great combo and light enough.  If you "have" to bring one more lens, I would say the 24-70 would do.  Enjoy!

Lighting / Off Camera Continuous Lighting Options...
« on: January 29, 2014, 11:05:23 AM »
Hi All,

I'm looking for continuous video lighting for my still photography.  I do weddings & events and have always used on-camera flash.  I'm venturing into using video lighting as an off-camera light source.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

My budget is $250.

I shoot Canon 5D Mark II & III

Thanks again!!

Lenses / Re: 24-70 II slight clicking sound when zooming
« on: December 19, 2013, 03:23:36 PM »
This sux...I just received my now and first thing I did was tested it w/my fingers crossed--NO LUCK!  Mine has a ticking/clicking sound too when zooming.  And I don't have to put it next to my ear to hear it (probably due to all these reports I'm reading, I'm consciously listening for it so it comes easier).  My batch is 06 (6/2013) from B&H.  Going back for exchange.

Lenses / Need Your Help on My Next Lens--Yes, the Lens Questions Again!
« on: December 15, 2013, 08:48:30 PM »
Fellow Photogs, I really need your help!  I'm fairly new to the wedding industry and have one year of experience under my belt, with 10 weddings done this year-one as a primary for a friend.  My question is on lenses.  Yes, the typical, but strategically important question (when funds are limited) on which lens to get next.

This past year, I've use mainly the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS II on my 5D Mark II & the Sigma 35 f/1.4 on my Mark III.  I've just sold my never used Canon 50 f/1.8II & seldom used Canon 24-105 f/4.  I can now mortgage another lens!  I have 4 in mind, but can only get one at this time & wanted to get your more experienced insights.  The 4 lenses I have in mind to get next is:

1) Canon 24-70 f/2.8 II
2) Canon 50 f/1.2
3) Canon 85 f/1.2 II
4) Canon 16-35 f/2.8 II

Which one should I go for?!?
Thanks for your input!

Lenses / Canon 24-70 2.8 II or Sigma 24-70 f/2???
« on: December 04, 2013, 06:58:29 PM »
Ok ok, so the Sigma 24-70 f/2 doesn't exist, yet.  But it's rumored to be in the works and might be available next year.  So this begs the question...

would you buy the Canon for $1700 or wait for the Sigma (f2!!)?
I'm starting out as an events photog, mainly weddings and currently have:

5D Mark II & III w/
Canon 24-105 (will sell this once 24-70 is purchased)
Canon 70-200 2.8 II
Sigma 35 1.4
Canon 50 1.8

Your input is much appreciated!!!

Lighting / Need Help w/Lightings...
« on: November 08, 2013, 04:39:29 PM »
Hi All,

I was looking at the at the Sony HVL 20DW2 light previously but didn't get it due to budget and need at the time.  Now I need it, but it doesn't seem to be selling anymore.

I will use this as a off camera light for stills.  Portraitures, weddings, etc.

I was also thinking of getting another LED light that's bigger.  Like this:
Litepanels Litepanels Micro - On-camera light - LED - 3 W - DC.

My budget is $400 for both.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

« on: October 04, 2013, 10:43:59 AM »
Hi All,

I use Canon 5D Mark II & III and use LightRoom 4 to convert my files from RAW to JPEG for webbase viewing only thus far, but I really need your help on what size should I save my pictures from conversion should I need to print them for, say 16x24 (or larger), prints?  Your help is much appreciated.  Thanks!!

Canon General / NYC Wedding Photogs....
« on: August 20, 2013, 08:32:34 AM »
Hi All,

Not sure where to post this question...but here might be the closes test to it.  Anyways my question is quite 'simple':

All you NYC or its surrounding areas wedding Photogs, what's your average price/fee as a 2nd shooter?  What's included as your responsibilities along this price (e.g. Do you need to edit, do you get to use these photos on your blog/portfolio, etc.)?

Lighting / 3rd Party Flashes vs. Canon's...
« on: July 30, 2013, 10:23:15 PM »
Hi All, once again I come for your advice.  I just got my 5D Mark III to go along w/my 5D Mark II.  There's still a few items I need (such as a grip for the MK III--I much prefer a grip as my MK II already has one), but of immediate need, I feel is another flash...a stronger flash!  I currently have only the 430 EX II.  I've been looking at the refurbished Canon 600 EX-RT offered by the Canon store for $440, but it's out of stock.  I'm also looking at the YN 568 EX II.  Any of you have any positive experiences with 3rd party flashes?  If so, which one in particular do you recommend?  Thanks!!
