PowerShot / Re: What Else is Coming for Photokina? [CR2]
« on: August 18, 2014, 01:37:23 AM »
I want my 135mm f/2L with added IS.  Make sure it stays black for maximum stealth mode shooting street candids. Can put on a 1.4x or 2x if there's enough light for a bit more reach. I wish the extenders were black.

EOS Bodies / Re: A Few EOS 7D Mark II Specs [CR1]

I applaud making it a mini 1Dx.  If you don't want an integrated grip and want a mode dial then there's no reason to bitch and moan - just get a 70D and be done with it.

The integrated grip and 1Dx style mode buttons will do wonders for weather sealing. When I got my 5D3 soaked in rain, I had a lot of water pouring out from under the mode dial. I'd love to see that go, even from the 5D as well.

Can I attach Canon 1.4x III and 2.0x III extenders to my Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II USM at the same time and still get AF at 560mm f/8, or is this crazy talk?

Also I do a lot of Live View focusing for my landscape work, and always have the focus mode in the contrast detect "Live" mode (not "Quick" or "Face" modes) and it often switches inexplicably to the "Face" mode on it's own. I don't know if they are the correct mode names as I don't have the camera in front of me.  It's a real "phenomenon" though - phenomenally annoying as it means I can't move the focus rectangle to where it needs to be! Anyone else get that?

EOS Bodies / Re: New DSLR at the End of March [CR2]
« on: March 01, 2013, 01:24:03 AM »
I don't care for metal bodies. I care more for metal lenses. For bodies - I don't plan to own them for more than 5 years. Even the cheapest of plastic will hold up under those conditions.

I do care for an improved sensor. I hate the 18MP cropped sensor of the current Canon crop. It has to go. I preferred the 450Ds sensor to the current ones. Less crappy noise. Sure there's not as many MPs so not as sharp, but I'll take per-pixel goodness over noisy sharpness.

Also much needed is wifi, gps and touchscreen, in all but the entry level model. Looking forward to 5DIV having this, and an improved sensor. Then I'll keep using that body till it breaks, or 5 years (whatever comes first).

EOS Bodies / Re: Patent: Canon EF 14 f/2.8 with Fluorite

If Kryptonite comes from the planet Krypton, Does that mean fluorite come from the planet Fluoron? This is important stuff to me - being the superhero that I am...

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon Center Pinch Lens Caps Now Shipping
« on: February 26, 2013, 12:35:00 AM »
Are these thicker and heavier than the old caps? If so I won't bother for most of my lens except for perhaps ones that are a bit of a pain with the hood on - I'm thinking the 100mm f/2.8 IS macro USM, and perhaps my 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS USM and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM.  My wide angle and standard zooms and primes seem fine with current caps.

I'd love a new cap for the 8-15mm f/4L fisheye - that "cap" sucks balls.

The 3D will have eye-controlled focus and a blink-activated shutter. You heard it here first.   :P

But Nikon is working on thought-controlled cameras.....

There would have to be the option to turn this off, because some days I would want to shoot something other than boobs...

Reviews / Re: Review - Canon EF 40 f/2.8 STM
« on: February 15, 2013, 01:15:38 AM »
That's called a review these days? Amazing. Why not make a head line out of the other 100 reviews of that lens?

Totally agree. That's one of the weakest "reviews" I've ever read.

I have this lens and I don't find the colours as punchy as L glass.  I am reaching for the vibrancy a fair bit more. Also it has horrible bokeh. Really not nice.

Still it is wonderfully sharp and wonderfully light and wonderfully cheap. If you don't have much in the way of bokeh (it gets really schizophrenic) and you are OK to do some color work on this lens, then go for it.

The AF is not USM-fast - but definitely fast enough for portrait and candid work. More importantly the AF is accurate, which can't always be said about Canon's entire 50mm range.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II is a Peerless Performer
« on: January 30, 2013, 02:17:00 AM »
I am purchasing the 24-70 II in about 2 weeks and will be taking it on a 1-week hike in mountains where it will be my only lens. I'll know it intimately by the end of that. I'll pano with Really Right Stuff on a lightweight tripod and ballhead to get more width than 24mm, when the need arises. Really looking forward to it.

Every time a marketer uses the term "unleashed" or "unleashes", a cute puppy dies somewhere. Those heartless bastards!

Lenses / Re: EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS Exists as a Working Prototype [CR2]
« on: December 20, 2012, 12:48:11 AM »
IS. Meh. IS isn't going to stop your subjects moving. Period. Also I quite like the higher ISO grain noise of the 5D Mark III. IS is not an issue at this focal length

The most noise is from fanboys who don't actually shoot - they just want all the feature boxes ticked on their shiny equipment they don't use much, and not having it gives them something to complain about in forums like this. My advice - get the current Mark II, stay off the caffeine and learn how to hold the camera properly with steady hands, build a bridge and then get over it.

Canon General / Re: A Lion Eats an EOS 5D Mark II & EF 16-35 f/2.8L II
« on: November 30, 2012, 02:13:15 AM »
Until the lion bites bits off and swallows them, then that's not "eating", that's "gnawing".

Most "web journalism" of this nature has a penchant for misleading sensationalist headlines.

Also, since when did CanonRumors go from a rumors site to a buyer's site, shoving "deal" after "deal" down everyone's throats. I'm getting sick of it - this site is now a total sellout.
