EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: New 5D3 Firmware Spotted!!!!!!!
« on: April 10, 2013, 10:56:42 AM »
Finally! Been waiting for this ever since it was announced. Thanks for sharing the find.

Now I've discovered (as have others) that the low light focusing has serious issues, esp if AF Assist is enabled with a flash.  It can take 3-5 seconds to lock focus in low light like wedding receptions, etc.
I've shot a bunch of wedding receptions with the 5D3 and AF assist enabled on the flash and have had no problem at all.  It is a wonderful camera for wedding receptions.  With or without flash, the low light autofocus is excellent.  If it took 3-5 seconds to lock focus, I would have gotten rid of this camera immediately.  I hope you get that problem resolved.

Same here. Flawless AF performance in low-light so far with or without flash.

Same here. That's a good introductory price on the Sigma. Hopefully it can match/exceed the 35L performance.

The Sigma 35mm is very tempting. I love their 50 and 85 1.4's! I will wait to see some reviews though.

Lighting / Re: Which Phottix RF trigger?

I have the Strato II Multi and I highly recommend it. Great button layout, build quality, and reliability. Plus it comes in a package with all the different cables you may need.

not only that but 580ex2 will fire at 1/8000 sec with HSS turned off at full power

How is this even possible? Is this a documented functionality of the Odin? I ask because even if you mount the 580exII directly on the camera you won't get full-power at 1/8000.

It's not your trigger system, it's the 5D3. This happens with a 580EX II directly on the body as well!

Really? Has anybody else encountered issues with their 580EX and 580EX II with 5D3?

Lenses / Re: EF-S 15-85?
« on: March 27, 2012, 11:26:52 AM »
I can definitely recommend 15-85 as a very versatile walk-around lens.. It replaced my kit 17-85 and it is leaps and bounds ahead of the latter in terms of IQ. I'm going to sell it soon only due to going full frame.

57xxx for kit has been shipped to Canada w/ tracking #. Seems like there were far fewer kit orders.

Henry's offer an additional 3yr warranty on the 24-105 kit for $469 - does anyone have any experience with this? Is it worth it (besides the obvious, "if you don't ever need it - it was a waste of money")?

Good copies of 24-105 can be had for 850-900 on the used market so I don't think almost a $500 premium for insurance would be worth it unless you are planning to give it a real beating for the next three years. Also consider that you may want to resell within the three years and you may not be able to recoup that money having to compete with other ones priced below $900.

If the warranty is for the whole kit, it may be different a bit. This is a really expensive camera after all so an extended warranty may be justified if you are planning to make money with it.

I preordered the MKIII kit on B&H and all said and done I was charged just under 5k in CAD.

You must have got the kit lens too for that price - no?

Yes, I ordered it with the 24-105 kit lens. BTW, B&H charges the full amount right away, unlike pre-orders from within US which get charged only when it ships. Sneaky policy.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark III High-ISO raw files

Thanks for posting these. The new Adobe Camera Raw 6.7RC available now supports these RAW files.

Just in time! Has anyone pulled these RAW files into the new ACR yet?
