I gave up waiting.  Saved for so long that I had enough for a 70D and a 6D with 24-105mm.  Love both cameras, no regrets.....

Lenses / Re: Will Sigma 50/1.4 Art push Canon to release a 50/1.2L II?
« on: April 21, 2014, 01:41:33 PM »
Sigma will not push Canon to do a damn thing. Canon will continue to move at their glacial pace and continue to make small updates to their cameras and lenses. And Canon will continue ot out sellcompetitors, even with their over inflated intial prices.... As long as people keep buying they won't change the way the run their business. Why would they?

Canon General / "MAP" pricing....How long will it last????
« on: April 13, 2014, 03:08:52 PM »
So every so often Canon decides to enforce their "Minimum Advertised Price" policy sending prices for their cameras and lenses back to "MSRP" levels. Seems like price fixing to me but apparently it's legal. I was ready to purchase a Canon 6D With 24-105mm lens but went from being priced at $1999 to $2,499 overnight. I did not buy the 6D and I am glad because I decided not to compromise and buy the 5D Mk II. Having said that I will not pay MSRP. I am in no hurry and will wait for a sale. My question is how long do retailers go along with Canon before before they begin offering discounts on cameras and lenses. I don't see how raising prices across the board helps Canon sales, but I am no business expert. I am sure they know something I don't, but they will not get one dollar from me unless the gear is discounted. Any thoughts out there????

EOS Bodies / Re: Will the next xD cameras do 4k?
« on: February 11, 2014, 03:13:31 PM »
I am just starting to play with video. I am researching and learning about all things video. I keep reading all the hoopla about 4K and I am sure it's great looking. The thing for me is, my computer barely handles 1080p, my software does not support 4K. My computer screen does not display 4k.  I don't have the storage space and finally I do not have a 4k TV. I am not upgrading all my gear just to shoot 4K. 1080p will be it for me until all my gear can catch up. Of course by then we will be at 8K.

EOS Bodies / Re: More Medium Format Talk

"Maybe Canons intention is to produce an 'affordable' MF system for those that really do need that amount of pixel power. "

That is a funny statement. Prices for any medium format lenses or bodies will be obsene. Just look at what happens when they update a lens like the EF 24mm f2.8 IS, prices double at the very least.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L Non-IS Discontinued?
« on: June 13, 2013, 04:14:18 PM »
"I do think there is a place for Non-IS lenses such as this one."

I completely agree. There is a $1000 price difference between IS and non IS versions. I have owned the non IS version for several years now and have no complaints. If I was force to replace now there is no way I can justify a $2300 replacement for my $1300 lens. I would be shopping third party lenses..... Canon continues it's drive to outprice many of us out of it's lenses.....
