Lenses / Re: If you can have ONLY 3 lenses, what would they...???
« on: October 02, 2012, 02:08:46 AM »
I would go for primes.

35.4L, 85.2L and 135.2L

There is no correct way of saying it but from my area, they use for example:

thirty five point four (35L f/1.4), eighty five point two (85L f/1.2) and so forth.

There are even funny words to describe the 70-200mm II L in the form of a rabbit too ^ ^

Arrrrghggh!!!!! ...continuing from my last post about joining the dark side and realising that the Nikon Services is a bunch of shambles, I finally got my lens back.

Short story:

Lens has a speck of something inside (there since purchase I think 2 weeks ago) and took it to clean
Initially they wanted to charge me HK$500 for it but got it down to $0 after a long argument.
2 weeks down the line I was told it's fixed but they managed to introduce 100 more inside after close inspection so back it went.

2 weeks later (yesterday) I got another call and this time the lens is totally clean... YAHEY!!

Today I took it out for a photoshoot and then..... the dreaded grinding sound appeared from nowhere. It sounded as if there was grit on the focus ring between the barrel or something? or more like gears clicking on rotation!!!!

This cannot be normal right? How can a company as big as this not check the lens (twice) after servicing? it's not a 50.8... it cost me over HK$12000!!! I dread what to think if I take it in again tomorrow. Maybe the next time I'll get it back without the nanocoating or a missing lens element.

DO NOT GO OVER TO THE DARK SIDE!!! I'll switch back when the 1DX is in abundance.

I already have after selling the mark III + 35.4L and jumping over the D3S side.

Although I still have a mark II and the 70-200IIL, my main body is the D3S with 35G, 85G and the 105DC.

I am however not 100% happy with the change no matter how much better I think the lenses are etc simply because of one thing I just found out about...

The HK Nikon Customer Services suck big time compared to Canon.

To cut a long story short, I bought a brand new 85.4G and there was a speck of something inside so in it went to the repair dept... 2 weeks later the large speck had gone but it was replaced by 4 smaller specks and a smudge (seems like they wiped it with a dirty cloth or something) and it's spread over different lens elements! The CS didn't even see what I was trying to point out at the time too cos he was holding it up to a bright light source all the time with the light oversaturating the zillions of tiny specks of particles.

The price is HK$24980 from CPS Hong Kong
for the body

The price is impressive.
May I know more about this CPS. I may go to HK this month and get one.
thanks.

I think it's a warehouse price and I doubt they will sell it at that price unless you personally own a shop selling their goods. Furthermore the body only is still nowhere to be seen.

I'd probably die cos that means losing both systems with a lot of lenses.

Maybe Just the Nikon with the D600 (when it comes out) and a 35.4G and a 430EX II for manual flash.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3 IQ FB, do I need a D800?

It's not the camera but the lens. You need a 200 f/2 for the portrait work sir.

Lenses / Re: Lesson learnt on flare.
« on: May 07, 2012, 10:53:52 PM »
Hey I like the atmosphere with flare in this kind of environment. Without flare it will be just like a plain shoot (of course its subjective but I like it).

Nice photo!

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark iii focusing issues
« on: March 27, 2012, 11:02:13 AM »
That happened to me when I was testing for any focussing issues with the 24L.
Opened to 1.4 and tripod mirror up focus using the middle point. The focus point and the actual focus spot was off by a little and a -5 adjustment did it perfectly.

Lent the camera and lens to a friend and he said it's soft at f/8 doing some landscape shots. Calibrated it back to +0 and everything was fine but not when it's at 1.4 >.<

On the subject of focussing with the 5D3, when I focus and the camera locks onto it, the red square no longer lights up. It just flashes and then goes dark giving me a beep to indicate focus is completed.

Can I get back to the old 5D2 mode where the red box stays on?

If you pass by hong kong then you can get another kit set for £2867
and then sell your old one to a second hand camera shop in the UK
I'm sure that will pay off part of your trip

Lighting / Pixel Knight TR-332TX issues on the 5D Mark III
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:52:13 AM »
I recently upgraded to the Mark III and was testing to see if the 5D mode works on the camera.

Apparently on pressing the focus button on the camera, the flashgun goes into strobe mode (3 times for the 430 EX II and 8 times on the 580 EX II - I think so cos I had to quickly turn it off in case it blew the 580)

This also occurred even with the 5D mode turned off.

Has anyone got such a receiver and trigger set on the Mark III? Any solutions?

It's in stock in Hong Kong as of today. I got a call from a worker at Fortress that the kit package is ready to be picked up.

I'll get it tomorrow morning
