Guessing in Japan is 400.000JPY = 3.450 USD. Sounds about right to me.

Count me in at that price, for that spec i'm expecting it will be at least another K.

You can often find better deals than buying from Adobe.  Look for some great Black Friday deals.

I've actually made a profit by buying the latest version of both Lightroom and Elements from Amazon on Black Friday, then selling my previous versions on Ebay after Christmas !.

Lenses / Re: EF 24-70mm f/4 L IS - Discontinued?
« on: November 10, 2014, 11:46:30 AM »
I've just bought one. The combination of great handling, weatherproof construction, and the killer feature - 0.7:1 macro mode with hybrid IS - made it perfect for me once the price became reasonable. There's a £160 cashback on it in the UK, which finally tipped the balance.

I'm seriously considering purchasing the 24-70mm f4 L as well.  At £719 from Bristol Camera's less £160 cashback from Canon, it looks like a great deal.  My 24-105mm L should make around £400 on ebay, so the upgrade would only set me back around £150.  Has anybody-else made this switch and was it worthwhile ?.

The festive period could be more expensive than normal for me, Amazon UK is offering the 16-35mm f4 for only £816.65 (almost £200 less than anywhere else in the UK) less £60 cashback from Canon.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5D 4 & 1DX II @ Photokina?

September announcements are for products for Christmas - user cameras/accessories

I wouldn't be surprised if we see the announcement of the 750D in addition to a 7D2 at Photokina.  It's overdue and availability before Christmas makes economic sense.

but if you read the fine print, the $10 is anything BUT permanent

Where did you read the fine print ?.   I can't even locate basis information regarding the package on the Adobe website such as what's included in the bundle (PS,LR+what), what happens if you cancel your subscription, how many computers can it be installed on, what payment methods are available, how is payments is taken and all manner of other information that you would normally receive before signing a contact of this type.
I'm guessing that the answers are the same as for the previous $9.99 deal, for all but the first of those question but without any product specific terms there's no way of knowing for sure.

If Adobe had introduced the Photoshop CC at $10 a month I would have sign up straight away, however they introduced it at $19.99 a month.  This has put a doubt in many photographers minds as to how much Adobe will be content to receive in the long term for what is now known as the $9.99 Creative Cloud Photography Plan

Personally it would now take a longer fixed term contract or the option to purchase 3 or perferrably 5 years membership (at an mutually agreeable rate)  in advance to persuade me to subscribe.

As thing stand I can't even locate a FAQ pages for the new $9.99 deal on the Adobe website, yet alone and small print.  How are you supposed to make an informed decision with out it ?.

They still do.  However you now benefit from the mobile Lightroom apps if you subscribe

Lightroom 5.5 is out: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=113&platform=Windows

Lightroom 5.5 is out but it only includes bug fixes and additional camera and lens support.  No "Modify Graduated and Radial Filter masks with a brush" features etc.  I guess we will have to wait for LR6 for them.

As things stand one version is abandoned as soon as the next is released

Support for new camera's  is only included in the latest Camera RAW plug-in and Lightroom.  In my experience (from camera clubs etc) this is more that enough to convince the less knowledgeable that an upgrade of their product is required.  Continuing support for outdated software for a reasonable period of time would eliminate this issue

So you are proposing that Adobe make updates to every version of their software every time a camera manufacturer comes out with a new camera?

Not all versions, just the more recent.   As things stand one version is abandoned as soon as the next is released, which is extremely harsh.

No they haven't.

They are the only software company I know that supplies a fully supported and FREE program to enable you to use your latest multi thousand dollar piece of equipment on their oldest piece of software, assuming you still have a computer that will run PS1.

but if you buy a new camera it's only supported by the latest version of their software.  Similar upgrade principle

No support for older bodies such as 1D4, 1Ds3, 5D2? Why on EARTH would they do such a phenomenal mistake? Is there ANY logic at all behind this? Like the engine doesn't work with older CR2's?

So upgrade your camera

Adobe's been employing similar upgrade tactic's for perpetual licences for years

it can be installed in parallel with DPP 3.14.15 that still supports it.

Is it therefore possible to transfer a non supported RAW (CR2) file from DPP 3.14.15 into DPP 4 ?.

That is probably why there is a major loss of backward compatibility and why a 3.x.x update came out earlier this month.  I doubt Canon will invest time or money to fix the compatibility issues.

I doubt that they will continue to invest time and money in 3.x.x now either, which will be problematical when purchasing a new lens for use on  an old EOS body.
