I'm looking to snag a BG-E11, but the big guys all seem to be sold out (Adorama, BH, Amazon, etc.).  There are a bunch of random shops that claim to have it in stock - but I've never dealt with any of them, and the majority seem to have hit-or-miss experiences in their Google reviews.

Should I trust these small guys, or wait for the big names to get more stock in?

Got mine from Unique Photo @ a low price ($319). They still have them in stock now @ $329. Nothing bad to say about them so far, quick service, original un-opened product:

EOS Bodies / Re: [Rumor]3D and 70D specs

Why release a body (3D) with specs that make 1DX and 5DM3 owners lust for? the 5DM3 is already pulling some 1DX customers into a cheaper body. If I was making some decisions at Canon, I would make the 7DM2 entry level FF to compete with Nikon d600 as there are plenty of crop bodies already.

Canon EOS-3D

    30+ megapixels, 1D-class body
61-point AF system, major functions same as 1DX
Equipped with flash (or speedlite transmitter)
Perhaps equipped with the first 4K movie recording function?
Dual Digic5+ processors for 6 FPS

Canon EOS 70D

Compact Body with better AF and continuous shooting than EOS 7D
    22MP and DIGIC5+
    19-point AF
    6 FPS

Any mention of a new firmware update for the 7D? That rumour was thrown out a few weeks back and no word since. Just wondering if it's gonna happen or not. Thanx.

Why have MkIII in the title, then ask about 7D >:(

Did not work fine with me:
1) Live view appears on focal window but is slow sync and stops in few seconds.
2) I believe focal is worth it when they develop full automatic support to 5DM3 (which I believe is in development). Doing the manual procedures is, at least to me, is harder than available free manual procedures available on the net.

So my suggestion, don't buy until they confirm full 5DM3 support. The SDK is out, so they should be on it right now.
Ditto.

Make sure to go to devices>usb, and be sure that the camera is recognized.

Worked like a charm

Not that I've heard.  In the meantime, I run it on my MBP via a Parallels virtual machine.

EOS Bodies / Re: DPReview 5D3 review out
« on: May 23, 2012, 05:56:08 AM »
It's out - http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/05/23/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-review-posted

In a sign of their political awareness, the 5D3 scored the same (82%) as the D800.

I'll let the fanboys comment on individual aspects of the review.  As far as I have been able to tell, both cameras succeed in taking pictures.

It is clear that they chickened-out, did not want to involve themselves in brand war given they are owned by Amazon.com. The result was 'cooked' to be equal with D800. In the cons section, they practically hammered the 5DM3 indirectly and goes against results gathered by individual reviews.

yay ebay has them now

I have this on my 5DM3. The back LCD fist perfectly, but the top LCD no matter how I install it, I see line of air between the LCD & protector. And it is thick, so whenever your fingers move around you will feel the raised plastic. I am keeping it until I receive a regular protector and will replace the top one only as the back one looks good so far.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Best place to buy 5D Mark III

Hi,

What is the best place to buy a 5D Mark III right now? I know Canon has start shipping after the light leak fix and I know some are getting their cameras already.

Anybody out there just placed order recently and received the camera already? If so, where did you buy it from? If pre-ordered, how long is the wait? Adorama? Amazon? or BH?

Thanks guys, trying to get one but not sure where to order it from.

check out onecall.com they get stock so often, I got three 5DM3 from them by registering my email in product notification request. they don't have long waiting lists, usually when they receive shipments they appear in-stock (for few hours though).

Lenses / Re: 5D MKIII w 70-200 2.8II using a 1.4x vs 2x extender
« on: May 17, 2012, 03:16:41 PM »
Hi, picked up a 70-200 2.8II with my 5DIII and was wondering what your thoughts were using a 1.4x vs 2x extender?  Thanks!

I have 5DM3 and just purchased the 70-200 F2.8L IS II and 2X III. I am still testing the combination but I can tell you for sure that the AF is still blasingly fast. Gave it a try outside and have no AF issues at all. I had the sigma 150-500 and took pictures on 5DM3 and I am trying to compare with the canon combination. Ill post if I managed to do so ASAP.

I tried shooting a 50 F/1.2 @ 1.2 indoors in dim light yesterday and it didn't seem to work as I'd thought.

Were you by chance shooting with the lens cap on?  On in the dark with an exposure of less than 2 minutes?  If so, you might have been experiencing the infamous LCD light leakage issue that people have been up in arms about recently.

This is so rude, the OP asked a ligitimate and interesting question, why make fun of his question. Just because you were scrued by Canon with a defective camera that you cannot return does not mean you can put your anger on other people and unrelated threads. Get a lawyer and go hammer Canon or live with it and don't bother others. the light leak issue has been discussed to death and almost forgotten. get a life >:(

EOS Bodies / Re: Loss in Resale Value of 5D Mk3
« on: May 17, 2012, 07:51:06 AM »
Shouldnt Canon be somehow more responsible in this Light Leak issue - even if its not an major issue - they have made it a big enough issue by statements they have issued along with affected serial numbers. New buyers dont seem interested in purchasing any of the 1X or 2X serial models. So we early adopters have been penalized by what something Canon is totally responsible for. If you tried to resell your camera that you bought last month you may have already lost a couple of hundred dollars because of the light leak issue. Apart from setting the price of the new Mk3 out of the reach (esp when compared with the D800) they have now reduced our investment, and dont seem to care.

Strange when I posted about this a month ago when I returned my 5DM3 kit, almost everybody thought my decision is wrong since the light-leak is a non-issue. Now when the new bodies started to ship, when they realized that Canon played it the safe way knowing how "loyal" (I did not want to use an offensive word) canon users. People statrted to feel sorry they did not make the right decision.

I recieved my serial 3 5DM3  a week ago, and even though it is fixed, I am sure I will not used the LCD so often. In otherhand, when i offer it for sale, I will clearly indicate that it is NOT serial 1/2  ;D

EOS Bodies / I really can't believe
« on: May 17, 2012, 07:43:29 AM »
that there are still some people mention the cap-on thing even after Canon's acknowledgment, and even after canon holding all old cameras and only resume selling new 'fixed' versions. From what planet they are?

I can understand they were stuck with their camera's which they cannot return and are reluctant to open it by Canon for a fix. But they should not misinform others who still have the chance to correct their situation and get a fixed body.

As I suggested earlier, anybody getting an old version now SHOULD return it.

I wouldn't worry. Just don't shoot with the lens cap on with the LCD illuminated at the same time  ;D

My 1st 5dm3 has a "1" in the serial number and my 2nd has a "3"... They both perform the same...not unless im taking pictures of the back of a lens cap can I tell which is which... Other then that theyre both perfectly fine.

You're comparing the 5D3 at 12800 ISO to a Pentax 645D? How high does the 645D's ISO go? Do you know? I do as I have the camera. 1600 is the highest the 645d will go. So you're comparing apples and oranges.

Not only that, you are comparing much lower ISO on a camera with a much bigger sensor. These theoretical discussions bore me. If you expose correctly you'll have little noise where it matters. I shoot sometimes at higher ISO than I'd like but don't always use noise reduction in post

I guess Pentax was thrown just as a deviation, the real, hidden message, is how D800 has more detail!!!! I have seen this in every Canon forum, Nikon marketing are working extremely hard...
