2012, I bought an Olympus OMD, 12mm f2, 25mm f1.4, 45mm f1.8, and a 17mm TSE and filter kit for my 1DsMIII, plus a new CF tripod. This year I will probably go for a 6D and 40mm.

The big advantage that the 6D has for me is size and weight. I have a 1Ds3 and an OMD currently. The 1Ds is very heavy as a walkaround, travel camera, and the OMD doesn't have the range of lenses. The 6D will allow me to take a few primes, including the 17TSE on my travels. In fact, I'm toying with the idea of just taking a 6D and the 17TSE along with the OMD and the 25 f1.4 and 45. This would cover most of my travel needs. So, I plan on getting a 6D in the next 2 or so months.

I have looked over many of my shots taken with the 35mm, and find that f1.4 is my most popular setting. Anywhere in the f1.4-2.0 range seems to deliver that special 3D look that the 35 renowned for. I wouldn't part with mine for a zoom.

I have both the 85LII and the 85 f1.8. Both are great lenses. I upgraded to the 85L for portrait work, but I kept the f1.8 for more active work. I still both both lenses, although I use the 85L more these days. If I were you, I would get the f1.8 and maybe upgrade in a few years if you think you need to. The f1.8 won't disappoint you for the price.

I have both and use both for portraits. I guess I would use the 35L the most, but I often have situations where context or groups call for the 24L. They are both fabulous lenses. If you can afford both and don't mind having one that's not used as much as the other then, why not lash out

It depends what type of photography you are going to do. Cropped sensors are not bad to work with, and nor is the 50D. I'm not sure that your zoom will work on a 5D. Personally, I would choose a good lens or maybe 2. You might think about the 100 f2.8 macro and the Sigma 30 f1.4. Both are very good and seem to suit what you take now. The Canon 85 f1.8 is also a bargain and worth considering.

I like the 24L for groups, but the 35L is the most useful for your purposes. For portraits, it's a notch above the 24L, especially in terms of bokeh. The 35L is a very special lens.

« on: April 19, 2012, 07:10:45 AM »Thank you for all the reply.. i finally pull the trigger and get the 85mm 1.2 markii... when first time holding it, i feel that it is extremely heavy, even worst than my 24-70L. feel unbalance on the 5dm2. The picture produce at 1.2 really stunning and unforgettable. and i can't believe it is extremely sharp even at wide open 1.2.. usually my 50mm f1.4 need to tweak down to f1.8 to get better sharpness... THANK YOU all of your reply !! another reason i did not choose the 70-200mm is because of its size, which make me cannot carry it all the time..

The 50L is a great all-rounder, but so too is the 35L. If I was in your position and could only buy one lens for travel I would probably go for the 35L. It's wide enough to work in tight areas and provides very nice bokeh. I took one to Vietnam and found it to be very versatile, particularly for street portraits. I would steer clear of the 85L, as it really isn't a street lens (the 85 f1.8, however, is very good for this purpose).

I use primes mostly, so lens changes are frequent and my sensor gets dirty very quickly. So, I clean it a fair bit. Up until now I mostly use Arctic Butterfly brushes. When the dust gets sticky, I use Dust Aid cleaners, but rarely. The combination seems to be very effective. The thing is, don't be frightened to clean your own sensor. If you clean regularly you will get used to it, and save a good deal of time in PP.
